I chose this company because it seemed like the only one that was previously reviewed on yelp. The owner, Jim Rabbit came out with one assistant (a really old guy). The guys were on-time and got right to work. All in all they completed the job quickly and were nice. A few cons: They used my extension cord to run their drills and equipment. Not a big deal, but I thought they would rather use their own stuff. And they didn't roll it up when done. They had to use my hose to run water down the drain in the garage. Water got everywhere, which was expected, but they didn't move stuff that was in the line of fire. Nothing that important, but I would have preferred them to clear the workspace first. And I would have hoped that they would have at least swept out the puddles after the work was complete. The guy asked me for a plunger. Really? You're the freaking plumber and you don't have one?

My initial call to them was casually answered by a woman who took my information and told me the plumbers would be by the next morning around 10. These guys were on time and worked fast. The entire process was done in under an hour. They're also nice people, which doesn't hurt when you're dealing with a frustrating thing like a backed-up sewer... I would certainly recommend them to anyone in south city who's looking for plumbing maintenance.

No return call after 1 week- called again. Receptionist said she would let " Vince " know this was my 2nd attempt. I had postponed the 2nd plumber mostly b/c this wasn't a huge project. One week later now into the 3rd week- left another message to schedule the project. No call back. That was 10 days ago. Seems to me that if I didn't have a crash and burn need they didn't need or want my business. They know that is where the money is at - when you are in dire need. Sad to think now they have to have this on their record. I won't call them again if they where free. In addition I know allot of people and will share it with anyone who needs a plumbing service. Shameful they couldn't even call back and say no thanks or we are too busy, too small of job etc.,.

I recently had the pleasure of having Hampel Plumbing swap out my hot water heater, a job that took…read moreroughly 3 hours. This was not an emergency, I did not need to do it immediately, and I was more than happy to let them pick the day and time for the job. The heater itself was covered under warranty, so that cost was zero. The labor cost however, was a staggering $1600 for 3 hours. Now, I'll be transparent: I did not ask for a quote beforehand, as I did not expect a heater swap to be so highly priced, and Hampel did not offer a quote. For reference, plumbers in the St. Louis area typically charge $35-$130 per hour (source: Angi). At 3 hours, that's roughly $105-$390 for the job. Home Depot charges approximately $325 for basic water heater installation labor. Lowe's comes in around $200-$400. I paid $1,600. To their credit, after I raised the issue, Hampel did offer a $200 discount, bringing my total down to a still-impressive $1,400 for a 3-hour labor-only job. That's roughly $467/hour. The work itself was excellent. The water is hot. I have no complaints about the plumbing. Only about the invoice. If you use Hampel, and plenty of people do, I would simply suggest asking for a written quote before work begins that breaks down every single line item. A small step that, in my case, would have saved me approximately $1,200. --- Sources for average labor costs of water heaters in my area. * Angi - St. Louis plumber hourly rates ($35-$130/hr): https://www.angi.com/articles/how-much-does-it-cost-repair-water-heater/mo/st-louis * HomeAdvisor - Average water heater labor costs nationally ($150-$450 for standard tank swap): https://www.homeadvisor.com/cost/plumbing/install-a-water-heater/ * Home Depot installation labor (~$325): https://www.thepricer.org/home-depot-water-heater-installation-cost/ * Lowe's installation labor ($200-$400): https://smartwatersource.com/lowes-vs-home-depot-water-heater-installation/

Around the time of my appointment, we had severe thunderstorms in our area with a significant amount of rainfall. The owner called to advise that the company had been inundated with sewer backup issues from the heavy rains and asked if my appointment could be re-scheduled so they could focus on those in need. We rescheduled the appointment for just a few days later and after their normal business hours. They arrived on time, completed the job in a timely manner, gave me tips and points on how to keep our drains cleaned AND gave me a significant discount as compensation for having to re-schedule the appointment. EXCELLENT customer service and knowledgeable in what they do. I highly recommend if you need any type of service they provide!

Not only did our sewage ejector pumps fail, the monitoring/warning system did not work due to having been wired into the same circuit as the pump, and the pump was tripping the circuit breaker. This was clearly a faulty design and until now this system was a mystery to me. Fortunately we discovered the issue prior to any waste water getting onto the floor. I called our traditional plumber who claims to repair/replace sewage ejector systems and the plumber sent to our home had no clue what to do. Realizing this application required special skills I did some research and found Clog Commandos. Their ratings were good and they even had a case study on their web site demonstrating a prior sewage ejector system issue they handled. Clog Commandos came out the next day, assessed the situation and put a temporary solution in place to restore the systems capabilities until the new system arrived. This could have been a very expensive, time consuming, messy project but Clog Commandos responded quickly and made the process simple and understandable. During the entire process no waste water was exposed to the interior of the home and no damages were incurred. Clog Commandos kept the scene neat, tidy and sanitary! Each of the employees I worked with were extremely professional and good communicators. I would highly recommend Matt and his team to anyone.

The first time I met him a pipe burst in the wall under our kitchen sink. What amazed me about the service call was that Tony came out within the hour, and it was not only on a Sunday, but it was Father's Day! He cut the drywall and replaced the affected pipe. Maybe it was a Father's Day gift to me, but he didn't charge extra to come out over the weekend. His work has always been excellent and his prices have always been fair and reasonable. This past week Tony and his wife replaced a faulty water shut-off valve in the basement. I actually enjoy both of them because we have several things in common, starting with kids and dogs.
