Had some pork scratchings while waiting for my friend, they were tasty with ample apple aauce. Shared with my friend a pork roll and toastie. Both were above and beyond the stanrd. Pork roll with large with high quality, not ground pork. The toastie was also two steps above typical fare. Ser ice was both professional and friendly.

The "Pig" in Southampton is literally in the wall- the medieval city walls that protected Southampton's port area from French attacks. The 12 rooms are well appointed and very comfortable. All are unique. Ours was #12, up under the eaves. Ancient timber beams exposed and dormer windows giving a nice view of the cities cruise port on one side and the city rooftops to the other. Water boiler, coffee maker, glasses and fridge. Very good WiFi in the room and lounge. The lounge/ restaurant has a full bar and very nice cocktail, cider, beer, and wine selection. The dinner menu was small, interesting and delicious. The Chef went over my wife's allergy list and "revised " a menu she could order from just for her. Everything we had was excellent. Service was attentive and helpful. The setting was something we all imagined about dining in a countryside British pub.

Awesome place, phenomenal service!…read more We spend a couple of days here before getting on a cruise ship, so the tavern and inn need to be reviewed separately. The tavern was a quaint English pub style place with eclectic decor and an amazing atmosphere. We had dinner there one night and breakfast there each day (since we were staying at the Inn). All of the food was outstanding but the fish and chips were the best I've ever had! The servers were friendly and knew their menu well and we enjoyed each meal. The Inn is upstairs and can be accessed via the tavern during business hours or a private outside entrance all of the time. Our room on the second floor was a beautiful corner room with a big bay window and full bathroom. We really loved staying there. Fully stocked fridge that we were free to enjoy too. The only slight downside (and it's not the White Star's fault, so no reduced score for them) is that the bar across the corner got a new sound system and plays it loud until 0200. Every. Bloody. Night. The manager said that the police were going to be checking noise levels after many complaints, so hopefully it's been resolved! But again, that's not White Star's fault and we heard that other rooms didn't have that issue. Regardless, if you're in Southampton, you need to drop in for a pint, a meal or spend the night!

This historic inn/tavern is in the heart of Southampton, the major cruise port of the UK…read more It was formerly known as the Alliance Hotel and is where some of the Titanic passengers stayed before boarding that fateful voyage. The inn feels like an old ocean liner from the early 1900s without the opulence found later. Some of the rooms are named after former ocean liners, and thus named the White Star now for England's most famous line, owners of the Titanic and many others, now called Cunard. We had a delightful dinner. It has a pub atmosphere but a bit more upscale as a restaurant or tavern. To celebrate we got a bottle of the sparkling wine from Kent. It was quite good and went well with the meal I ordered a pheasant croquette on a bed of peas and Brussels sprouts. It was excellent My main was the chicken dish which was very well prepared and delicious. The sauce was good and the preparation better than expected for this type of establishment. The portions are substantial and I was quite full and unable to have a dessert. The waitstaff are cordial and really hustle when the crowd appears. A bit on the pricier end, especially with the wine selection, but the quality is good.

The hotel suggested we take a cab but we managed to pull our 24 inch luggage from the hotel. We cut through the Holiday Inn parking lot. I wouldn't recommend you walking unless you're very mobile. It took us under 15 minutes. We enjoyed the hotel. Very upbeat. We noticed a photo booth on the mezzanine and table tennis. We had a choice of 500 points or food credit $10 per person. I took the food credit as we were going to eat before leaving for the terminal the next morning. Spent about another $12 USD out of pocket. Standard breakfast food options. We also had hotel bar food for dinner the day we checked in after the two fish and chip places suggested by the hotel didn't work out. Ordered: * hubby had chicken wings * I had Mac n cheese balls * BIL had chicken curry * sis had egg rolls We each were given a free cocktail voucher. It was like a fruit punch. Also got local beer. There's a shopping center across the street. It was a Sunday so stores closed early.

The bar on the ground floor is pretty cool and I enjoyed all the decor. We were given a complementary welcome drink, which was greatly appreciated. The room was comfortable and the bathroom was nice. Unfortunately, I only had about 90 minutes of sleep due to going to bed late and needing to get up early to catch a bus back to Heathrow. The bed and pillows were lovely and there was nice lighting, even a motion sensitive light under the bed so you didn't trip over things in the dark. I wouldn't hesitate to book this hotel again. It was nicer than I anticipated and felt "cool" and "trendy." Drink were a bit pricy but there are countless options within a short walk.

Accessible entrance and lifts are in the lobby. Stairs were also easy to find and use. It is clean, bright, and has a relaxed ocean vibe. Our room overlooked the harbor, we could see the Queen Mary 2, and it was quiet. There were binoculars in the room that were fun to use! We were on the 5th floor so during the day and evening we could hear the chairs and furniture scraping the floor in the rooftop bar (on the 6th floor). Not terrible, but next time I'd prefer not to be on the fifth floor. The bed was comfortable but oddly the comforter barely fit the bed - we had to sleep in the center of the bed because the comforter was not wide enough to reach beyond the edge of the bed when we weren't in it. There cannot be an outlet in the bathroom by law, so using the hair dryer was also a challenge. There is a big full length mirror near the bathroom, but no outlet nearby and the hairdryer cord was not long enough. Fortunately there was a nice makeup mirror in the bathroom I was able to move and could prop up on the tissue box on the desk to see my hair while I dried it. Keeping the makeup mirror on the desk (where there is natural light) is a good idea because the lighting in the bathroom is terrible. Loved the chairs and colors in the room. Plenty of closet space and drawers. There is also a snack closet - look for the price list! We ate at the rooftop bar twice. When we arrived in the afternoon we had drinks and a pizza - both great! Jon was wonderful & helpful! We came back for breakfast the next morning. The buffet was perfect for me - the overnight oats were delicious as was the yogurt (very tangy) and fresh fruit. Hubby had some buffet items and eggs Benedict which he enjoyed. We would definitely stay here and dine here again!
