Avoid At All Cost!!!!…read more I hate to do this because I love to see small businesses succeed but this experience was beyond horrible. I contacted Chad Pordes (aka Pordes Marine, Southern California Boatworks, South Bay Boatworks, possibly others but those are the three business names I've found him to be using) in mid September to service my outboard engine. He was informative and seemed reliable so I brought my engine to him. The next day he told me it was ready for pickup. Seemed fast but I appreciated the quick turnaround so I went to his shop, picked up the engine and paid him $388(over $100 more than he quoted me for the job). That same afternoon I ran the engine but it was worse than before, idled very high, had difficulty shifting into gear and would occasionally shut off. I immediately let him know but he told me that I needed to let the new fluids run through and that once everything burned off it would be back to normal. Fast forward two weeks and still no improvement. I contacted him again and he said that he'd take care of it. This is where things got bad. He said he couldn't duplicate the issues in his shop so he'd meet me at my slip the following day at 9am which was October 8. He was a no show and didn't even have the decency to call and let me know. Its a 45 min drive from my house to the marina so rather inconsiderate. I call him, he offers no apology but says he'll be there the next morning. Once again he was a no show. That happened 4 times before he finally came on October 15th. He looked things over and agreed that it wasn't running right but said that he wasn't able to fix the issue there and would need to take the carburetor back to his shop but would have it done and replaced in a day or two. I dealt with 3 weeks of his lies repeatedly telling me that he'd take care of it tomorrow. Obviously that never happened and then last week he stopped answering my calls or responding to texts all together. Finally November 4th I contacted the Marina Del Rey sheriff to see what my options where. I'm not sure if they contacted him or if it was just coincidence but about an hour later I had a text from him saying that I could pick up the unserviced carburetor from a box on his front porch. So now I have a disassembled carburetor and an unusable outboard for my trip to Catalina this weekend. It's unfortunate because he seemed like a decent guy at the beginning. If I had to guess, my assumption would be drugs. His behavior seemed consistent with an addict. Trying to earn my business he was friendly and responsive but once he got paid it was all lies until he finally cut off communication and tried to steal from me. Do better Chad

Complicated process to say the least, but JR worked through the steps and we made a deal that worked for all parties. JR followed through as promised, communicated all details, met me for a sea trial, and was a pleasure to deal with throughout the process. 3 outta 5 kids made it up on a surf board by day 2! Since that time I have owned several boats and have dealt with different brokers, and what I found was that a lot of brokers were not too forth coming with detailed help when it came to purchasing a boat. A few years back I reached out to JR and wanted to purchase a 2008 Formula 350 SS. I was ready to buy it when JR told me I needed to do my due diligence and have the boat surveyed and checked out to see if it had any issues, He gave me names of Surveyors and Mechanics that he trusted and valued. After reviewing both the boat and engines surveys, and with the boat having some issues just like all used boat. JR was very helpful with the negotiations making sure a fair selling price was agreed by both seller and buyer covering any repairs that were safety matters and needed to be addressed. My wife, who doesn't trust a sole, looks out for me because, as she says I look through rose colored glasses, and she put JR to the test, and JR knew that if my wife didn't trust him, she would put him through the wringer. When my wife and I were ready to step up to a bigger boat, JR was the first one I called. He explained to me in detail how bigger boats require more attention than little boats and wanted us to be aware of that. He educated me on what to look for and steered me away from what he felt were not quality boats. 6 months ago, I stepped up to a 45' boat and JR was there for us every step of the way. We looked at many boats, and he wouldn't let us settle for just anything. Again, he helped us with the negotiations to make sure we purchased it at a good price. We are loving our new boat and are glad that JR was looking out for us, not just trying to make a sale. Thank you for your guidance and friendship. See you on the water, Joe and Stephanie

Despite the circumstances, the experience was outstanding from start to finish. Derek, my sales rep, was professional, responsive, and great to work with. The business office secured me a fantastic loan rate and handled a complex registration process with ease--they registered the boat in Arizona so I could run legally with an AZ number on Lake Havasu, while still sending all billing and documentation to my home in Newport Coast, CA. They made a potentially complicated process completely smooth. Mike, the owner, was hands-on throughout the deal. It's rare to see an owner so involved, and it really shows in the way this dealership operates. Since the purchase, I've been working with Jim, the General Manager and Service Manager at Sun Country Marine in Lake Havasu, and he's been awesome. Whether it's routine service or helping in a pinch--like the time I rolled through on a Saturday with a dead battery--Jim gets it done. He swapped in two new batteries on the spot and had me back on the water in no time. That kind of service is hard to find. Sun Country Marine is a top-tier dealership with a team that truly cares. From Newport Beach to Lake Havasu, they've taken great care of me, and I highly recommend them to anyone in the market for a boat or reliable service. -- Troy Barnes, Newport Coast, CA

Now fast forward about 5 years. I have returned to the boat house after searching for another boat. Wanted to upgrade into something that my kids and I could sleep on and have some awesome fishing trips. Have been looking for about 3-4 months and I found the boat here once again. This was a big purchase $100k+ . Once again tim and Capt joe were not pushy and extremely helpful making this purchase process easy and stress free. I couldn't be any happier with the boat I purchased. When it came time for the sea trial the owner of the boat came along as we were able to meet, it made the process that much more enjoyable. Knowing who I was purchasing the boat from and seeing how well the boat was maintained and cared for was a added bonus! Just want to thank Capt joe and Tim for their professionalism. Little side note; after purchasing my new boat , I consigned my old boat with them. It was sold in less than a week!!

We took our boat in (which is a big deal since we store it in a slip) to have them do our yearly service. Like most boat owners, we do our best to keep it maintained but also are aware that the boat had some deferred maintenance. They gave us a reasonable quote for the service and we asked them to go through the motors and give us a laundry list of items that the boat needed- and like most boats, it needed a lot. What we appreciated most was that they gave us plenty of options. Foe example, our hydraulic rams were pitting and leaking during the inspection and he gave us options down to each individual piston whether we could rebuild them, replace individual pieces, or replace the entire system, and his professional opinion on both. He showed us how our T-stat housing gaskets would leak due to corrosion and showed us how they cleaned it up and used a marine gasket maker to seal it and stop the leaks. It's not a permanent fix but the motors are 20 years old and we're just looking to get back on the water- not replace an entire engine block. When we went to pick up the boat he spent 30 minutes with us showing us everything that was done and answering our long winded questions. Before we left, the nice girls at the front desk gave us some official Honda Marine hats. Anyways, 10/10 would recommend.
