One of the best sandwich shops in town. Haven't had a sandwich here that wasn't good!

Never had a bad choice for many lunches with friends at Cater - soup, salad, quiche, sandwiches…read more Also had some quiches made for a family gathering that were a big hit with all ages. The casserole options are good too. My favorite is the sweet potato with pecan topping. Just pop in the oven and the meal is done.

Customer service: spot on great experience…read more Food: it was ok. The Mexican salad was watery and a strange consistency. Presentation/delivery: this was ordered several weeks in advance as a catering order to be picked up. I chose the specific salads, sweet treats, and crackers and chips. I understood that everything would be on a platter ready to lay out on the table for the meeting I was hosting. Sweet treats would be cut and arranged on a platter. I selected all of the specific items I wanted abd prepaid. Fast forward to pick up day. The order wasnt ready. When i showed up, staff was scrambling to put the order together. They pulled the salads that I ordered from the refrigerator, cut the sweet treats bars (although they didn't have any of the bars I ordered), and threw everything in bags. Not only I didn't get what i ordered, but it wasn't presented as expected. There was no point in ordering ahead--I still had to wait. Then I had to go to the office and arrange everything on serving platters. So completely frustrating. Outcome: will not return.

I got the side of chips and queso and the queso is absolutely amazing and would rate 10 out of 10. They should make it an appetizer because we had to order two things of cheese. The Cajun fries were also a 10 out of 10. Our server was Ashley and was amazing and very attentive, not too much and not too little and had a great personality. Would love to come back.

We opted for bar seating and had water brought to us while we scanned the expansive drink menu. In addition to the signature cocktails, there is a variety of hard liquor, an amazing amount of whiskey, wine, (both red and white) as well as an impressive draft beer menu. It should be noted that there's a whiskey flight for $20 and you get a 1 ounce pour of each whiskey. It looks like there are seven on offer for this special. We didn't try it so cannot offer any more insights on that. We ordered the January gumbo special"Baby Duck Gumbo" - mine as is with chicken and sausage for $9 ( interestingly with okra which is only ever found in seafood gumbo ... at least in Louisiana) and the other with the addition of shrimp for $5 more. We asked for the saltines to be left off as we don't like to waste food and aren't fans of these old school standards. We split the brisket melt on marbled rye instead of Texas toast and left off the American cheese too... yeah we're *those* people... the sandwich comes with a choice of house seasoned fries or potato chips and we ordered the fries. The order arrived together (sigh). I would have preferred the gumbo to come first, then the sandwich, but hey, my mistake I guess I *should've* said something. Of course, I thought it was common sense that it should come in two courses instead of altogether. ... On a brighter not the order came just as we had requested and was a nice presentation. The gumbo was hearty and had plenty of protein albeit more rice than I would've liked. NOTE: if you are not an okra fan, beware. Both of us are good with okra so it was not a problem, but they do have plenty of okra in this gumbo. My dining partner said to skip the $5 add on of shrimp because although they are plentiful, they lack flavor. The sandwich is a decent size and was very tasty too and we both gave it a thumbs up. The fries were still hot and had a nice subtle flavor. Overall we'd give this roadhouse feeling, zany atmosphered little joint on the corner of Old West Point Rd and University a recommendation. The servers could use a refresher on how to greet guests and checking on them at least once during the meal :/ (1 star deduction) Oh, hey, they also have ample outdoor seating which is pet friendly for well behaved dogs.

After a long drive into Starkville for a wedding weekend, we needed a chill meal and a good drink,…read moreand Restaurant Tyler delivered. Our server knew the menu inside out and struck that perfect balance of attentive without hovering, especially after we told him we wanted to take our time. Cocktails were spot‑on, and the barbecue fried okra was a fun twist -- crispy, well‑seasoned, and dusted with barbecue‑chip magic. I went for the lamb ragu with local sweet potato gnocchi. Very good, though the sweet potato flavor was subtler than expected. My husband's burger, on the other hand, was a full‑on showstopper. The bacon jam and pimento cheese turned it into a glorious, oozy mess. Fries got high marks too. We grabbed a slice of carrot cake to go -- dense, moist, studded with toasted pecans -- and it was the perfect ending.

Promising menu in an aesthetic establishment, but unfortunately Restaurant Tyler was understaffed…read moreand overwhelmed. We visited Restaurant Tyler over the Mississippi State vs Missouri game day weekend on a Friday night around 7pm. We tried several times to make a reservation online, even days before, and finally called to reserve a spot over the phone, but we were told they do not make reservations on game day weekends. With that in mind, we anticipated a wait but expected the restaurant to be prepared accordingly. That assumption was incorrect. When we arrived, there were several tables on the patio and throughout the building spread with dirty dishes and in need of cleaning - they were in dire need of a busboy. The hostess was very kind and working extremely hard to get people seated, she cleared a table for us near the front bar area and we were seated within probably 10 minutes of arrival which was not bad. From there however, we sat for at least 15-20 more minutes at our table and were never greeted by any server or even offered water. We eventually decided to leave as it was clear that we wouldn't be receiving any service anytime soon. I do not fault the wait staff in this, they were obviously very overwhelmed and understaffed, but it is disappointing that management did not better prepare for what should have been expected to be a busy weekend. Allowing reservations during a highly anticipated weekend only makes sense, even if only a limited number of reservations so that walk-ins can still be accepted. We were really looking forward to trying this spot out and were disappointed by our experience.
