With that said, I am glad I have a brick and motor bank that I could turn to in a time of need. This review is primarily about the Bank Manager Sam Patel - who has been at this location quite a few years now. This is my only bank and I have been a customer through several different incarnations. Sam stands out as a manager of high integrity who is truly vested in assisting patrons such as myself. Recently, I had a huge fraud situation that depleted my checking and savings accounts and when I got the alert from BOA I was literally pannicked. I quite literally jumped into my car and almost ran into the bank. Sam immediately responded to me and helped to report the fraud. The following week I went back into the bank because things were not exactly straightened out yet (not her responsibility). First of all, she saw me enter the bank and waved me into her office. She asked me how things were and I admit I broke down and cried. She called the fraud dept again and asked them to expedite my claim and restore my accounts. By the next day things were back to order. Some may say that Sam was only doing her job - and while I agree, it is not that she does her job expertly - she does it with heart and compassion. I only required basic teller services, with a deposit and some cash, but the bankers seemed to work well together, and the few people in were processed quickly. One negative is the drive way. If you're coming from the East, it's a hard left turn. If you have a larger vehicle, be sure to leave space to make the corner.

We loved that bank as the staff was very responsive and cooperative with whatever we needed: do a deposit without a deposit slip, bank by mail giving account and signing checks, accessing information from the bank and being alerted when there was a good CD or new credit or savings offering. They were a great bank to work with. During the acquisition period we were hopeful. Our account numbers remained the same, they gifted us new checks, kept the personnel in the St. Charles location and assured us that all would be the same, just a different name and logo. We had moved out-of-state, but I kept my business checking account with First State Bank. Well, I was fortunate to be working with Aimee Lentz, a great customer service representative. I could call her and get answers and directions. Likewise, mail was our way of operating. I could buy CDs whereby she mailed me the paperwork to sign and I sent the money in. Like clockwork and I remained happy. On the occasion where Aimee was not at work, I got nothing but an "I can't" attitude. It was as if the only way I could get information or something done was to physically go into the Main Street location or wait until Aimee came back. And since I was not regularly moving money into and out of savings I would regularly get notice that my dormant account would be closed. I had to recontact them and sigh forms stating that the accounts were valid. It became too hard and irritating. Aimee went to part-time and, coupled with First State Bank's awkwardly complicated on-line banking program, I decided that it was not worth it to maintain a banking relationship with an impersonal bank. Too bad. There are other banks west of Chicago, so do your research. First State Bank is not on my recommended list of banks to consider.

I also like their online banking system--useful features and good customer service. Their location is great too--close to home, Mariano's, and the restaurant strip on Route 14/Northwest Highway between Palatine Road and Hicks Road! I also noticed they've got a lot of older longtime customers who've been banking with them for centuries, so that was reassuring to see! I think the only area of improvement they need is to be open a little bit later on weekdays; some of us commute to the city and having to try and get to the bank before they close at 6 pm from the city, is not realistic nor helpful...sigh/groan! But other than that, I think I'll stay with them a while longer...

The manager of the branch never once apologized and only repeated many times that it would have been caught.... But I had to call into correct this????
