Was I little bit wary about sending my gorgeous dress across the country to NYC, to be cleaned by people I had only spoken to over the phone? YES. But honestly, I was scared of having anyone clean my dress. We've all heard the horror stories... In any case, I'm writing this review to let you know that my fears were completely unwarranted. The whole process with J Sheer was incredibly easy, and the customer service was excellent. Here's how it worked: They arranged for me to drop off my dress at my local UPS, and gave the store instructions on how to pack it correctly. They paid for the insurance and the cost of shipping. Once it had arrived in NYC, I received an e-mail about the condition of my dress and their plan of action. The whole process did take a long time, about 3.5 months or so. But once the dress was ready they called me and sent me an e-mail to arrange for shipping. When I realized I wasn't going to be home when the dress was supposed to arrive, I called J Scheer and they got back to me right away with different shipping options. Katy Mayer was my contact there, and she was awesome and very on top of her game. My dress arrived in a very study archival box and was wrapped in tissue paper. When I opened it up (using the white gloves they provided) it looked as beautiful as the day I got it. I was very, very relieved. J Scheer isn't cheap, but I found the price to be comparable to other high-end cleaners in the Bay Area. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to other brides, whether they're in NYC or not.

I chose to send my daughter's beautiful, expensive wedding dress to J Scheer because of their…read moreguarantee as stated on their website: J. Scheer & Co. offers a 50-year written warranty assuring you that no discoloration or weakening of the fabric or other components will occur as a result of our processes. Our warranty, like our in-depth testing and cleaning services, is an indication of our commitment to fine apparel preservation. DON"T BELIEVE THIS!! I paid $1,600 and shipped the dress from NC to NYC. I waited from October until March to receive the dress back and when it arrived, not only was the dress still very dirty on the bottom but the intricate flowers on the straps looked puffy and not at all like they looked before the dress was cleaned. I called the company and spoke to a girl named Maria who knew who I was, which dress it was and never asked to see pictures or anything, so she knew the dress was messed up when it was shipped out. She said she would look into getting it fixed. I waited for over 2 months and heard nothing, so I called her back and she said that it was going to be $1000 a yard for the fabric to fix the dress and it was only sold in yards and since I didn't need a full yard, they were trying to figure out what to do. I was being very patient but that was a mistake. After that conversation, I decided to take the dress to a well known local wedding dress cleaner to see if they could get the dirt off of the bottom of the dress while I was waiting on J Scheer to figure out replacing the flowers. I showed the man who owns the local cleaners the messed up flowers and told him to just clean the bottom of the dress where the dirt was still on the dress (my daughter's wedding was outside the weekend after a hurricane so the ground was very wet). He was able to get the dirt out, which was great, except that J Scheer used the fact that I had the dress cleaned again to tell me that they will no longer be responsible for fixing what they already admitted to damaging. I was told this in a most unprofessional email from someone named Sophia. I have called Jonathan Scheer, the owner of the company, several times, and he will not call me back, so I am resorting to leaving reviews and letting the wedding dress designers know that they should not recommend them because they don't keep their word. I even talked to the lady who sold us the dress at Oscar de la Renta, and they are willing to cover the tailoring to fix the dress so J Scheer would only have to cover the cost of the fabric and apparently they won't even do that because I left that in a message for Mr. Scheer and he still didn't call me back. The least they could do is refund my money so I can use that to pay for the fabric to fix the gorgeous dress that they ruined. Don't be fooled by the guarantee like I was!

It's all such a whirlwind of activity. And the logistics at our farm were challenging, to say the least. I also greatly appreciated how, during the actual wedding and party afterward, Sandra and her assistant were there, in the background, keeping the caterer happy, moving tables, shuttling slightly inebriated guests to their cars, (thank you, especially for that. I think I would still find people walking the horse pasture fence, looking for their cars.) And for doing the behind-the-scenes things that rarely are noticed, unless they're not done. (For example, one of the porta potties malfunctioning). Sandra handled that with quiet speed. And mostly I appreciated how she took care of Amanda's mother's doilies, the family mementoes, tucking things away in the pool house for safe keeping. And for a good, general tidying up at the end of the night.

However, as the groom, I absolutely did not have to endure a 'bridezilla.' Jacqueline and Darryl were the primary factors for this. Jacqueline was at every dress fitting, and the bridal shower. She helped form the strategic plan, but was on point with the smallest of details. The contacts they had for every imaginable service made planning a breeze. Although they are very busy (for obvious reasons), they promptly replied to every email, text message and phone call. They went above and beyond to serve as referee, counselor, mediator, and fixer. I cannot accurately describe how reassuring it is having a go-to (or two) to put out any fires or better yet, prevent them before they started. For brides-to-be, you will not find a better planner with more solid contacts in the industry. For grooms, cut the check! In retrospect I would have paid triple what they charged for the quality of life and piece of mind leading up to the events, and for the smile on the face of my beautiful bride on the day of. My (now) mother-in-law immediately booked a wedding event planner who's known as "the best" and we began the planning process almost 2 years before we actually said "I do." Welp, turns out "the best" was a complete nightmare, more so because he didn't give 0 you-know-what's about my vision, getting to know us as a couple (or, as people in general) and basically wanted our wedding to be a cookie-cutter version of all the others he's coordinated. A mere 3 months before our wedding I couldn't take it anymore and we finally fired him, which felt freeing until I realized we had assembled an incredible dream team of vendors, but had no idea how to pull it all together for our big day. After getting a recommendation from our amazing photographer (Kelsey Combe) and reading glowing reviews, I reached out to Kate, desperate and nervous. We immediately connected with Kate's calming, soothing demeanor on our first phone call and she was (thankfully!) willing to take on our wedding and right all the wrongs of our previous planner. Kate was an absolute angel (and I don't say this lightly!), who was patient, kind, insanely organized and professional and went above and beyond in executing my original vision. She fully embraced all of the wacky ideas we had (vinyl records as party gifts? sure! multiple disco balls? okay!) and brought so many out-of-the-box ideas to the table as well. Using her software, AislePlanner, made even the most annoying aspects of wedding planning (the dreaded seating charts) fun and simple. There's no rest for the wicked? False: there's literally no rest for wedding planners. I have no idea how Kate does it (and I'm a detail-oriented interior designer myself!), but she expertly crafted our best day ever and was the voice of reason (while being a kick-ass coordinator) on the day of our wedding. I cannot recommend her enough and am super jealous of all the future brides who get to work with Kate. A million times thank you to you, Kate! xx
