Our warranty, like our in-depth testing and cleaning services, is an indication of our commitment to fine apparel preservation. DON"T BELIEVE THIS!! I paid $1,600 and shipped the dress from NC to NYC. I waited from October until March to receive the dress back and when it arrived, not only was the dress still very dirty on the bottom but the intricate flowers on the straps looked puffy and not at all like they looked before the dress was cleaned. I called the company and spoke to a girl named Maria who knew who I was, which dress it was and never asked to see pictures or anything, so she knew the dress was messed up when it was shipped out. She said she would look into getting it fixed. I waited for over 2 months and heard nothing, so I called her back and she said that it was going to be $1000 a yard for the fabric to fix the dress and it was only sold in yards and since I didn't need a full yard, they were trying to figure out what to do. I was being very patient but that was a mistake. After that conversation, I decided to take the dress to a well known local wedding dress cleaner to see if they could get the dirt off of the bottom of the dress while I was waiting on J Scheer to figure out replacing the flowers. I showed the man who owns the local cleaners the messed up flowers and told him to just clean the bottom of the dress where the dirt was still on the dress (my daughter's wedding was outside the weekend after a hurricane so the ground was very wet). He was able to get the dirt out, which was great, except that J Scheer used the fact that I had the dress cleaned again to tell me that they will no longer be responsible for fixing what they already admitted to damaging. I was told this in a most unprofessional email from someone named Sophia. I have called Jonathan Scheer, the owner of the company, several times, and he will not call me back, so I am resorting to leaving reviews and letting the wedding dress designers know that they should not recommend them because they don't keep their word. I even talked to the lady who sold us the dress at Oscar de la Renta, and they are willing to cover the tailoring to fix the dress so J Scheer would only have to cover the cost of the fabric and apparently they won't even do that because I left that in a message for Mr. Scheer and he still didn't call me back. The least they could do is refund my money so I can use that to pay for the fabric to fix the gorgeous dress that they ruined. Don't be fooled by the guarantee like I was! read more

Had my Vera gown clean and repaired with them - and communicated I would like the garment bag coming back. They never responded to that part of the request and when I ask again they asked for extra charges to ups the garment bag since it was not part of the agreement. When I received the cleaned dress and garment bag back i was shocked it was not my vera garment, mine had my name and wedding date on it and the logo is embodied on instead they sent a random one with no name / not embodied. I know you guys will think shut up lady, it is just a garment bag, but I felt my trust was violated, they weren't up front about the original bag was already gone, instead asked for shipment and send a random substitute wanting to fool the customer... read more

I got my Lela Rose wedding dress at Marina Morrison in San Francisco, and they recommended that I get it cleaned at J Scheer & Co. Was I little bit wary about sending my gorgeous dress across the country to NYC, to be cleaned by people I had only spoken to over the phone? YES. But honestly, I was scared of having anyone clean my dress. We've all heard the horror stories... In any case, I'm writing this review to let you know that my fears were completely unwarranted. The whole process with J Sheer was incredibly easy, and the customer service was excellent. Here's how it worked: They arranged for me to drop off my dress at my local UPS, and gave the store instructions on how to pack it correctly. They paid for the insurance and the cost of shipping. Once it had arrived in NYC, I received an e-mail about the condition of my dress and their plan of action. The whole process did take a long time, about 3.5 months or so. But once the dress was ready they called me and sent me an e-mail to arrange for shipping. When I realized I wasn't going to be home when the dress was supposed to arrive, I called J Scheer and they got back to me right away with different shipping options. Katy Mayer was my contact there, and she was awesome and very on top of her game. My dress arrived in a very study archival box and was wrapped in tissue paper. When I opened it up (using the white gloves they provided) it looked as beautiful as the day I got it. I was very, very relieved. J Scheer isn't cheap, but I found the price to be comparable to other high-end cleaners in the Bay Area. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to other brides, whether they're in NYC or not. read more

Just got my beautiful Monique Lhuillier wedding gown back today from J. Scheer. Overall, my experience with them has been very positive. Great customer service. Both Judith or Katy have responded to my emails very quickly and were always up to date with my gown status. The gown itself has been cleaned, preserved, and repaired. there were a lot of tears from my skirt (embroidered ruffled rosettes--the Sunday Rose gown) that got repaired, and overall it is much cleaner than what it was before. The bottom of the skirt had dirt stains and it was dark, now it is a lot cleaner, but there are some shadowing so it's not completely white like brand new. Overall, they did a great job of cleaning and repairing my gown almost back to how it originally was. I trusted J.Scheer b/c Monique Lhuillier Salon HIGHLY recommended them (my consultant who was the asst manager at Monique Lhuillier said their salon exclusively uses J.Scheer to clean their own gowns so I knew I was in good hands), and I am so glad I went with J. Scheer and Co. The entire process is quite lengthy, which took about 9 weeks long. They arranged for a driver to pick up my gown from ML salon and had it delivered via UPS to my home address once it was finished, free of charge. When I got my gown back, it was packaged in a very large box wrapped in tissue with a pair of white gloves. They said you can open the box and check on your gown while using the white gloves they have provided. The box has a lid so it's meant for your to re-open, unlike the other companies where it's in a sealed box. They recommend you place the box facing flat and not upright. They are on the much more expensive side compared to other local wedding gown preservation companies, but I wouldn't trust anyone else with my expensive couture wedding gown! I recommend preserving your couture designer gown with J. Scheer. read more

My yelp login attempts were quite the uphill battle after 3 years... so first and foremost... thank you truly for inspiring me and bringing out the best in me after very scheerly wiping away the single most precious memory a bride can hope for, and have reasonable expectation to materialize, during the planning process. Instead of kindly responding to my email request to describe the gown cleaning process to ensure my Priscilla of Boston sample dress would get the most pristine attention to detail, this company instead conserved quite the opposite and everlasting wedding memory for me when the Conservator proceeded to refuse me the explanation of standard procedure in gown cleaning, and explicitly told me to take my business elsewhere. As a result, this has set me back an entire month in my gown cleaning and alteration, as well as led to hysterical fits of laughter, tears, and scheer disarray. Of course you will remain in business, UES dollars travel quite deeply, and this will be a scheer speck on this company's attempted grandiose image. In spite of this, my soiled moment will be a scheer testament to one irrefutable fact - my dress may be soiled at the moment... sitting in your desolately scheer NYC basement.... but this company has just royally soiled itself and its reputation in this process, and that's the one memory I won't be taking with me down the isle, and I thank you for that :) read more

J Scheer and Co came highly recommended to me and if you do a little research you'll see that all the high end bridal gown designers recommend this company so it was an easy choice to send my wedding gown to them to be cleaned and preserved. My gown wasn't in awful shape but it had definitely been worn well during my wedding and there were some dark black lines along the hem that I was sure probably wouldn't come out. Once I sent them my gown (made super easy - they'll walk you through the process. They work with UPS stores and everything is pretty much taken care of for you.) the communication was great. Katy e-mailed me to let me know they had received it and also that they would do their best on the black stains but there may be some light shadowing. I appreciated her letting me know up front. My gown came back to me and I was very impressed. Beautiful archival packaging. It even comes with a set of white gloves in case you want to take your gown out of the box! The "light shadowing" was actually completely non-existant. The gown looks brand new and beautiful. I am really happy I trusted them with my wedding gown and will definitely be recommending them to all my friends. read more

Fantastic experience with wedding gown cleaning and preservation! I contacted them to clean and preserve my Pronovias wedding gown. After receiving a quote (which depends on your gown, and best of all, includes shipping), they arranged a driver to pick up my gown from my Manhattan doorman. They kept me updated with emails regarding the cleaning process. 6 weeks later (earlier than quoted), I was called to finalize delivery. By that time I had moved to California. They arranged for (included "free" shipping price in initial quote) delivery to my new home, and my dress arrived safely, speedily, and in pristine condition! It arrived In an archival box with archival tissue packing and white cotton gloves to use when handling the gown (which they encourage you to examine every 18 months). I got my wedding dress at Vera Wang, and all the reps there recommended J Scheer for my wedding dress preservation. At first, I wanted to keep my options open on who to choose to do my dry cleaning. But after I did some research and went onto the J Scheer website, I realized this company truly does intricate work to make sure that your dress is taken care of. When it came time to send my dress in to get cleaned and preserved, the process was extremely easy. Although I live in California, Katy from J Scheer was able to guide me through a very smooth process. All I had to do was drop off my dress to a UPS store, and they were able to take care of the shipping from there. When I received my dress back, I was blown away at how carefully and beautifully wrapped my dress was. Everything was wrapped carefully in their special tissue paper, and boxed up extremely well. Overall, I am very happy with my experience with J Scheer. Katy, and both Jonathon Scheer were a pleasure to work with. Their customer service here is top notch and so is their work! read more

I used J. Scheer about 10 years to preserve my wedding gown. I opened the box today and it was like opening the box the first time I received it back. I live in the Midwest so I had to mail my precious dress to them to have it cleaned and preserved. That was nerve-racking to say the least. But the customer service I received was excellent. When I received my gown back, it was as perfect as the moment I put it on my wedding day! All the grass, dirt, food, etc. we're gone. Trust me I didn't trash my dress but I did have a party in it! I would re-use them again if I had an event dress that I wanted to preserve. And now, going on 11 years, 5 moves, 2 small children, the dress is still in perfect condition. And my dress is a Vera Wang with lots of beads, embroidery and chapel length train. The box is huge! But I put in under my bed for storage. read more

When being charged upwards of $800 for a gown to be cleaned and boxed you'd expect that every detail would be perfect. Not the case with this company. First: In the FOUR MONTHS that it took for my gown to be completed I had limited communication from what were obvious form letters. I had specifically requested that my VW hanger and garment bag be returned to me but I was told that this was not possible. If they are handling my dress with care why can't I get these back? Second: When I phoned the business to ask about the status of my gown I spoke with Mr. Scheer directly. He was rude, curt and generally uninterested in my questions and concerns. He directed me to speak with an employee. Third: When I received my gown I opened the box to find that the white gloves that I was supposed to receive were missing and there was lint and black hair on the tissue paper and the gown itself. The small tears in the arm area were NOT repaired and the crinolin under my gown was sewn so poorly that it looked like a high school student had done a Home Ec project on the gown. When I called to complain I was told that the staff explains that not all things can be repaired and that not all stains can be removed. Basically, they said that they dry clean the dress and what comes out comes out. This company isn't concerned about preserving memories. They're obviously concerned about making money as quickly as possible or they would take the time to fix a tear or at least call and explain the end product and what did and didn't work. Once they receive your order they've got your dress and you never see it again until you've paid for it at which point you have no recourse. For the $995 that I paid I would have liked the conservator or seamstress to call me and let me know what she could and couldn't do. Apparently this is too much to ask of J. Scheer & Co. Do your research before sending in your gown to this company. Investigate other companies and find out what you can expect. Ask them how they handle stains, tears in the underlining and how they communicate with customers. Ask them if they can give you back your hanger or garment bag. I did my research online and I read reviews. I usually take one or two bad reviews with a grain of salt but now I know that the bad review is the one to pay closest attention to because there are details you wouldn't have thought of. Don't let the NYC address fool you or make you think that this company is "high end" because their work is not done IN NYC and I doubt it is done by museum trained professionals based on the final product of my gown. My dress looks amazing, especially considering the way it looked when I sent it to be cleaned. I let my dress sit with dirt and wine stains for months before finally sending it to be cleaned at J. Scheer. Katy was great and let me know exactly what they would be doing and the amount of time it would take. All of the stains are virtually gone and they fixed all the tears from my bustle and people stepping on my gown. J Scheer and Company was recommended to me by Carolina Herrera. The ladies at the Bal Harbour store gave me a DVD and after watching it I understood why CH recommends them to their clients. As soon as I emailed them, they made arrangements at my nearby UPS store for my gown to be shipped to them. They mailed the appropriate shipping materials to the store and they even called and spoke to the UPS guy to ensure it was packed and handled appropriately. J Scheer paid for all shipping costs. They gave me a very detailed analysis of the damages and stains the gown had sustained (more than I realized!) and they repaired and cleaned every last one! I highly recommend this company to anyone looking for garment preservation (wedding gown or otherwise). read more

I can't speak for Madame Paulette, but I can say that J. Scheer did a fabulous job. They charged me exactly what they said they would charge and the dress was returned to me exactly when they said that it would be. The staff at J. Scheer helped me learn more about wedding dresses than anything or anyone else in the process of planning my wedding. I bought a sample Amsale wedding gown in Washington DC three months before my wedding after there was a mix-up with the custom gown I had originally purchased. As the sample dress was a bit dirty from wear and tear, the bridal shop I purchased the dress from recommended J. Scheer & Co. to clean the dress prior to my wedding. I was in a time crunch and very panicked when I reached out to J. Scheer, but Greta assured me they would be able to get my dress back to me in a few weeks so I would still have time to have alterations done. With Greta's help the process was so much easier than I had anticipated, as they provided me with detailed instructions on how to ship the dress and gave me numerous updates as to the status of my dress. As promised, I received the dress back in about 4 weeks. J. Scheer did a fantastic job and I am so grateful for their help. I sent my gorgeous organza Vera Wang ballgown to J. Scheer & Co. after my wedding. I was a little nervous since they were in New York, but my bridal consultant assured me that they were the only place she trusts and the best in the country. I'm so glad I listened! From the minute I spoke to the sales rep on the phone, I knew they knew what they were doing. They only work with wedding dresses and she knew exactly which dress I wore (even though I couldn't remember the style-oops). They arranged for me to drop it off at the UPS store and they paid for shipping there and back. While it was in their care, I got updates on the progress of my gown. My wedding was outdoors so the bottom of my gown was DISGUSTING! They let me know that there might be some light shadowing on the lining. But when I got it back, it looked AMAZING!!! I was able to open the box and use the cute little white gloves that came with it and to take it out and examine it.
