We drove into an unassuming strip mall and was immediately directed to the shop by signs posted along the parking lot (good idea). As we pull up, we are greeted by a hot pink "red" carpet and window dressing far from grandma/elderly woman's clothing. As we enter, we are immediately greeted by the beautiful diva owner, Giovanna, who verbally directed us to the store layout. My compadre's browsed, but when Giovann noticed I wasn't delving into the clothing racks (i'm not much of a shopper), she came over to me and questioned me on what my 'style' was. Which left me speechless, b/c again, I'm not a shopper and am not the kind of girl who has any idea what "style" I prefer. So, she broke it down for me. "Tell me how you like to 'feel', not how you like to look". Thus began all of our journey into diva-hood. For the next 2 hours, we tried on clothes all while Diva Giovanna showed us tips on how to bring out our best features, how to pose in a way that creates the best pictures, and what looks would work best on our bodies...she even took pictures of us in her clothes to show us how amazing we looked. It wasn't shopping. It was an experience in celebrating womanliness! There is something for everyone in this shop (even a little dog and a piano), casual, fancy, REALLY FANCY... She will make you try on things you didn't even know you would look good in and she will style you. As I walked through the store, she followed me closely from section to section, including into the fitting area where there were additional sales items. However, when two white women entered the store shortly after, the same associate immediately greeted them and offered assistance. When I approached the register to request the store manager's contact information, the assistant manager identified herself and I calmly explained what had occurred. At that point, the associate claimed she never even noticed me -- despite having followed me around the store the entire time. As I was leaving because I no longer felt welcome, the associate became hostile and yelled at me, stating that she "gets along with the assistant manager" who happens to be Black," which was completely inappropriate and deeply revealing. I am a Black woman. The associate is white. The customers who were greeted and assisted were white. The difference in treatment was clear. I was made to feel watched, unwelcome, and devalued as a customer. What I was wearing -- leggings and a hoodie -- should not determine whether I am treated with basic dignity or assumed to be suspicious. I hold a LOFT credit card and was fully prepared to shop. This was not just poor customer service. It was biased treatment that requires immediate attention. The associate needs serious customer service and bias training, and store leadership must address how this situation was handled. No customer should ever leave a store feeling humiliated, profiled, or unwelcome. I did.

She kindly waved us over to the next available register and asked if I was doing okay after noticing my scooter. That small act of kindness meant a lot. We even shared a laugh about a pair of jelly sandals I wanted, but my wife wasn't a fan of! She had such a warm personality and made the checkout experience enjoyable.
