PLEASE BE AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY, I had the worst experience living here, always that something…read morehappens, they always say that they aren't responsible for nothing, they are only good to take the rent. First my belongings began to disappear, so I complained to the office, they talked to me, surprisingly that day Neil was very nice which is very strange because he is always rude, he tried to persuade me by saying that this had never happened before in the company and they blamed my roommate. They used that as an excuse because unfortunately we had a bad relationship with my roommate, who the same company introduced me to rent the apartment with her, then she moved and did not notify me that a new person would arrive to live in the Apartment, one night an strange woman appeared in the apartment which shocked me and I had to call the police, and she explained that the company had given her the keys, and the next day I heard a baby crying in the apartment. The company was very clear in the contract that only two people could live in the apartment. Now I am stranded in this place living with strangers because the company threatens me that if I move and stop paying rent they will report me for eviction and I will lose my security deposit

Chelsea Company has many properties all around New Haven and i've lived at the 179 Dwight and 65…read moreDwight Street properties. The apartments themselves can vary depending on which complex/building you rent from so definitely check them out either in person or virtually (e-mail for video tours). What stands out the most, however, is the management staff. When I was first looking for apartments, the management staff clearly laid out the move-in process and was (and still is) very responsive to e-mail correspondence. They stay on top of regular maintenance as well as the occasional concerns. I've thought of exploring other areas but stayed with Chelsea Co. given how my friends' feedback regarding other companies were very hit or miss. With Chelsea Co. though, other reviews as well as my personal experiences have been reliably positive. Testament to this is how separate employees on two separate occasions gave unsolicited praise for how well the management treat them and runs the company. One of those employees also went out of his way to help me out with one of my move-in tasks that I forgot to do until last minute. They also take security of packages very seriously. In conclusion, Chelsea Co. is extremely organized (even more so during COVID!) and helpful. I've lived at their properties pretty much stress free for 2.5 years and running.

We lived here when my husband was stationed at the SUBASE nearby and we had a wonderful experience!…read moreUsually I don't prefer to live in an apartment but Groton Towers is not your usual apartment complex! First of all there are only two buildings so you're not overwhelmingly surrounded by tons of people, it's a small close not community who all looks out for each other. I made 3 life long friends who I met in the halls of Groton Towers. These neighbors were so kind as we even ended up sharing thanksgiving with one of them who also happened to be a military family who moved here from Ga and didn't know anyone in the area (we are from FL). The doors are all locked so in order for anyone to get in they have to be a resident and have a key. They snow plow everything for free, heating is usually included in rent and the best heating system ever! The sidewalks are always salted and the maintenance staff is super responsive and helpful! When we moved in our walk unit had something small on it broke, but when the maintenance saw it instead of fixing the older unit, they put a brand new remote controlled one in! Karen is a kind and thoughtful landlord, the best of which I've ever had the pleasure of meeting! She always had treats in her office for everyone and was constantly planning activities for the kids for the holidays! My daughter would always bug me every time we came through the front doors to grab snacks and say hi to Karen! We still miss her even after moving a year and a half ago.

The room has very large windows but has only one small awning window so ventilation while cooking is terrible. The kitchen vent is useless because it blows inside the apartment, so the fire alarm can go often. Cooking smoky meals may be impossible.

While the community events and amenities are plentiful, there are significant shortcomings in infrastructure and security protocols -- such as cameras or active security staff. Notably, this lack of security recently resulted in an incident where approximately 20 cars were broken into, in the supposedly "secure" premium garage. Tenants are left holding the bag on damages, while paying $150 a month for this "secure" garage parking. Plus, this major break-in event isn't the first time, there's been a repeated series of minor car break-ins and package thefts.

It doesn't seems like there was much forethought into the acoustics. The noise from the hallways carries through the front door to the apartment very readily, and vice versa. Additionally, I hear things like my upstairs neighbors' footsteps as they walk about their place and the dull hum of my adjacent neighbors' voices through the bedroom wall. And, even with windows shut, all of the activity from the courtyard carries into the apartment - not a huge deal as the pool closes at 8pm and courtyard closes at 10pm, but the occasional group will disregard these rules.
