Awful experience. I was accidentally sold a "tester" by an employee two weeks ago. Unfortunately, I didn't realize this until I had left for a trip. As soon as I got back in town, I went in to get it replaced. I no longer knew where the receipt was, but thought they would at least have the sale in their system. I was practically accused of theft with the manager saying that she didn't know where or how I got that tester so she could not exchange it. I finally had to track down the transaction on my debit card's purchase history. I was finally given the product with no apology from the manager and not even a word from the other attendant. She just silently handed it to me. And when I asked if I needed to do anything else, I was just stared at. The way I was treated at this place was absolutely shameful. read more

I agree with the other reviewers. The people who work here come across as rude and so unfriendly. I do not recommend their makeovers. You can expect to spend $200 minimum on products (required) for a slap on make up job , or $95. You can have someone come to your house for a much less rushed job. read more

She asked if she spends hundreds of dollars would they let her and once again the answer was no. Truth is she was not going to pay to pee but that seems a bit sad. Incredibly rude employees. Barely greeted us. We were looking at the nest products for possible gifts and after an employee saw us she physically cut me off and started grabbing the last holiday products, to put to the side for herself or a friend? I was shocked. They didn't offer to wrap our purchase even though they had a wrapping table. The staff seemed almost annoyed we were there even though their store was nearly empty. Millie Raes on the post road has a much larger selection of nest products and a tower of the holiday scents. They are so much more welcoming. I recommend going there instead. read more

I needed foundation. I was immediately approached by customer service rep. I told her what I wanted, and what I liked for a foundation. In the meantime, rep introduced me to a moisturizer. I didn't need moisturizer, but the rep told me that my skin looked dry so I decided to give it a try. Interesting note, I use a moisturizer prescribed by my dermatologist but the rep said it wasn't working. The rep really wanted to sell me the moisturizer, but there wasn't any in stock so she said she could mail it to me. Okay sure. Rep put my foundation in a bag, along with samples and told other rep to ring me up for foundation and moisturizer. The moisturizer was $299. It was out of my budget, and I wasn't expecting to make the purchase, so I decided to just take the foundation. The rep took the free samples out of my bag, decided to give me only a few samples. I was basically punished for not purchasing the moisturizer, and was put in an embarrassing situation. I tried to explain to the first rep that I didn't want the moisturizer, but she was already trying to sell that stuff to someone else so I just walked out-vowing to never step foot in there again. At my age, I don't think any moisturizer for that price would make a stitch of difference, and I do not need free samples. But, I will not tolerate being put in an embarrassing situation because I won't buy into the magical illusion of expensive products. read more

I love the products here, and I love the store itself, but this particular location is terrible. EVERYTIME I walk in, there's at least 5 employees chatting in the corner. I don't get any greeting, and barely anyone asks if I need help. And when they do, it literally doesn't help at all. They sound extremely unconfident and uneducated in their choices, and it makes me really uncomfortable to be there. I don't trust what they have to say. I just left and when I was being rung out for my item, the women was STILL holding a conversation with the other employees. I've worked in retail for so long, and every place I've worked customer service and experience is everything. This location completely lacks that, and you can tell they really just don't care and it's sad. read more

I had a surreal experience yesterday at Blue Mercury. When I entered the store there was one customer being helped and 3 other sales women. No one greeted me. Two were sitting have a conversation and another was walking around the store. I went to the Chantecaille counter 2 feet from where the women were chatting. I played with a few of the samples but the only mirror in that section was behind them so I crossed to the other side of the store to try a few of the samples. I spent about 10 minutes and then left. It was as if I was completely invisible. In contrast I walked through the other Blue Mercury to and fro from my car and was greeted with smiles and asked if I need help. I'll purchase what I selected from Nordstrom's online. read more

So its an amazing company: i shopped with them for years in the original locations. Two challenges for n Westport. It's confusing to shop having two locations across the street from one another. Having to cross back and forth as you decide. Also some of the staff are GREAT ! Super friendly and helpful. Others are i'll just say it RUDE. Either annoyed you even ask a question or so pushing it makes you want to run out. Given all the open space on main st, would be so much better if they broke part of their lease and consolidated in one location. I shop at Blue Mercury frequently because of the brands they carry and have found that of the two stores on Main St, one is clearly better. Of the store I don't like, one reviewer here put it best: "I have given this place several tries since it made landfall in Westport. The staff can be either outwardly pushy or completely disinterested; no happy medium here." I've walked into this store (closest to the parking lot) and been completely ignored, which seems like a blessing compared to being "helped" by some of the salespeople. Earlier this year I went in looking for a BB or CC cream, explicitly telling the saleswoman that I prefer only having to wear one product on my face in the summer. She then tried to sell me a moisturizer to wear under another moisturizer to wear under a layer of foundation to wear under a layer of powder. This may be a workable routine for some, but it the COMPLETE opposite of what I asked for and I was livid. This is not the only example of something similar happening, but it is the worst. I tried to avoid after that. Today I went into the branch that I generally prefer, and had an even better experience than usual. A woman named Jackie helped me and she was amazing. She listened to what I said and I walked out with exactly what I wanted (plus a little more, which is fine). She was also accommodating of the fact that my 2-year-old was being a little rambunctious, and I was ultimately really happy with the experience. Overall, I highly recommend the store on the east side of Main St. (near Shoes n More) and would avoid the branch across the street at all costs. I don't know if the difference in staff is by design, but one is consistently better than the other. read more

I bought a Chanel mascara and it was dried out. When I brought it back with the receipt, they wouldn't give me a refund. Today, I went back and asked for a purple Chanel mascara which they were out of, but showed me other brands by opening brand new mascaras from selling inventory, and then shoved them back into that same stock. Now I know why my new Chanel mascara was dried out and not usable. Definitely won't ever buy from there again because they open products which sets of the shelf life timer and you can unknowingly purchase their expired merchandise. read more

I'd like to think of this place as a more upscale version of Sephora. They sell many quality, high end beauty products that I constantly lust after. Their Kiehl's products basically take up an entire wall. They have a great selection of NARS makeup. Lots of bumble and bumble shampoo products, most of which I've never heard of. An excellent selection of Jo Malone perfumes/colognes. And more! Everything is well organized, and the store is beautifully laid out, with lots of natural light. I took my first facial with Brandi at Blue Mercy in Glastonbury because I was experiencing redness on my face that would not go away. It turns out that I had Roscea. By that point I would never leave my house without foundation to cover the red patches Brandi knew what would be best for my face to help my skin during the Roscea treatment. Now I feel confident going out of my house without makeup on. Not only is my Roscea gone, my face looks healthier than ever. After being disappointed with the mascaras I purchased at Sephora and Benefit, I was told by a friend to try Chanel and to go to Blue Mercury in Westport because they carry the line. I not only found the staff to be very welcoming but was impressed to see the store had recently been renovated to reflect the luxury retail store they are. I found the service overall to be impeccable, with everyone I spoke to friendly, knowledgable and honest. All things I truly appreciate. I was particularly enamored with an associate named Tara W. who went above and beyond to make me feel special and who is so clearly enthusiastic about what she does. The entire time I was with her, she made me feel like Queen for a Day. I left with my Chanel mascara, some Lamer skincare products, handfuls of samples and a smile. Recently visited Blue mercury in Westport to purchase a bottle of Hampton Sun tanning lotion (which by the way is the most yummiest product - I recently bought the perfume which I love). Anyhow five professionals working on working on the floor we're unable to locate it-one girl suggested I try Target!! I doubt they carry a bottle of $38 lotion regardless upon exiting the store in frustration I located a bottle on the suntan lotion display table -come on girls get to know your products! read more

My prior review is for the Blue location located on the right hand side when walking down Main Street. They should take some lessons from the left handed side store. I got invited in from the street- some sort of party with tea, etc. Super nice lady, Denise helped me and I was only asked once..okay, maybe twice if I needed help. Everyone in that store was great. When I didn't know what kind of makeup to buy and was totally frustrated by the unknoweldgeable staff at basically every Sephora I went to, my good friend took me to this Bluemercury in her home state of CT. I now refuse to even buy makeup anywhere else. The staff at Bluemercury is beyond knowledgeable and their products are amazing (they have all the makeup I love and then they also have these fun candles for different rooms of the house..like the library of your house?!?! - hey, when in Connecticut...). They also have perfumes and a bunch of products - I could just spend all day in here! Randy helped me and she knew exactly what I needed just by looking at me. She also wasn't at all pushy and suggested items that she really thought I could use - she wasn't just trying to make a big sale! She, as well as the rest of the staff, was super friendly. When I left Bluemercury, all done up with makeup by Randy, I couldn't even count the amount of compliments I got. And usually I can't replicate the make up artist's creation, but Randy showed me how to properly apply everything, and everytime I use the products I bought at her suggestion, I get a million compliments! read more

Bluemercury in Westport, Ct never fails to exceed expectations. All the workers are VERY well educated in their craft and make recommendations on what you need. I would highly recommend listening to what they say. A lot of these yelp reviews are very confusing but definitely come from individuals who believe that if the store doesn't come to a halt when they walk in,then they aren't being helped. These ladies accommodate even the toughest of costumers and do it with a smile. I give them SO much credit, I wouldn't be able to do and handle what they have to. read more

Every time I go here the experience is awful. Over the summer I purchased Shishedo oil blotting tissues twice. The third time someone told me they NEVER carried them and said I must be mistaken. I work around the corner, I know where I purchased them. I have also purchased Laura Mercier Ink eyeliner which I love and the last time I went they were out. I went back today and was rudely told they don't carry it or it's a discount item. I mentioned I am able to order it online from other vendors. The lady said it's discontinued if you see it on amazon. I checked and I can get it at Macy's, Niemans and a dozen other retailer, still at full price. I will not come back and shop here.... they never know what they are talking about and are not friendly at all. read more

This store does NOT stand behind the merchandise they sell. I bought a pricey Re-Vive product which did not live up to my expectations. I was told that the product was bought 2 months ago and the store could not take it back and that I should contact the manufacturer. The fact that I did not use the product till a few days before due to the fact that I was using up a Lamcombe product that they did not carry. I did contact Re Vive and never received a response. I am not one to complain but I have much better results with Sephora and other distributors of high end lines and have received much better service. I love to buy locally but this store is a must miss, not living up to customer satisfaction in a community which expects and deserves more.!!! read more

I think I was the only customer in the store with maybe 5-6 employees standing around chatting and doing each others makeup... i was never asked if I needed help, which I did.. and when I finally found what I was looking for, i stood at the register for maybe 10 minutes before anyone even lifted their heads to know I was standing there... maybe it was because I was in scrubs and not their typical looking housewife customer...just adds to a terrible Westport reputation. read more

Do yourself a favor and never step foot into this store. I literally think the salespeople are encouraged to make you feel self-conscious so that they can talk you into buying their beauty products. This isn't like Sephora where you can walk in, grab what you need, and go. You have to flag someone down to get what you need because items aren't put out. Buying products here is complicated and not worth the hassle. The salespeople are TERRIBLE and extremely rude. If you're not a wealthy-looking Westport housewife, don't expect any of them to acknowledge you or offer to help. I used to come here when I needed a new tube of Laura mercier foundation, as this is the only nearby place that sells the color I like. However, I now drive nearly over a half hour to go to the Sephora at Trumbull mall due to my last experience at this store. I've struggled my entire life with acne/oily skin. The saleslady whom I flagged down to grab foundation for me proceeded to give me an uncalled for dermatology inspection while standing one centimeter from my face. I felt extremely uncomfortable. She pointed out that my "face is covered in bumps" with a grimace and began recommending a million different skincare products for me, rubbing her fingers all over my skin. Meanwhile, her wrinkled skin was doused in caked on makeup. Gross! All I wanted was foundation, not insults and acne products. Needless to say, I left the store humiliated and in tears. As a Westport resident, it's such a shame that I no longer have a reliable cosmetic store close by. Worst customer service. read more

I love shopping at Bluemercury - the staff is well versed, mature and doesn't try to oversell me. They help me with my skin issues and are not judgemental. They have many products ranging from inexpensive to very expensive. I have never been pushed to buy something overly priced and the ladies make sure to point out differences in products. I highly recommend the store on the east side of the street as that is the one which I am most familiar with. read more

Why, oh why, did I feel pressured to tip the "make up expert" who did my child's pre-prom make up and made her feel ugly? It took over one hour while her friends came and went because no one would give her individualized attention. Two different ladies did her make up and they were both mean and huffy. When she asked for a pimple to be covered up the woman recoiled and almost gagged. My daughter left there crying feeling like an ugly duckling. Because of my mother and my Catholic background, I stupidly submitted and still bought the make up and gave them a tip. My daughter repeatedly said she had gotten a spray tan and wanted a concealer to match. The woman did not care and kept shoving a brush and very light concealer in front of the cash register saying this would be perfect. We did not want the brush but she kept saying we had to have it or my daughter would have blotches and look terrible. She repeatedly said how badly dry my daughters skin was. Instead of saying how awful she looks, perhaps say maybe you would like a little moisturizer. Not "your skin is so dry." "You are really in trouble." You must "buy the $60 cream; all my teenage girls use it." "Your doctors moisturizer formulation is bad." The sales job, actually snow job, was sickening. Now, I feel awful and really want everyone to avoid these nasty women who are outwardly unattractive, and inwardly downright mean. Next time, we'll go down the street to Benefit or hire someone to come to my home. Complete waste of time and draining of our energy on a beautiful evening. Thanks for nothing. read more

As I do every gift-giving holiday, I stopped into the Westport, CT store a few days ago, and was totally put off by my experience. I waited for a woman to finish her conversation with Tara, at the register, and proceeded to ask for a gift card. Not more than ten seconds later, the same woman returned, and asked a question of Tara, and she was immediately addressed, while I waited, yet again. Tara returned her attention to me, and asked, "how much was that card for?". This was less than a minute after the first exchange. Not a minute later, the same extremely rude woman returned, asked another question, in the middle of my transaction, and again, Tara was distracted and paid attention to the woman. At that point, I turned my attention to the rudest person in the store, gave her a glare, and said, "Really?". She got the message and turned away. I asked Tara, "Is she done now?" to which a recieved a stare. No apology, nothing. At that point, it was apparent that she couldn't wait for me to leave. She dumped the gift card in a bag, and handed it to me. I'll spend my money elsewhere in the future. read more

I decided to check the store out since im not from the area as soon as i walked in i found a lip balm from khiels so i asked one of the workers if they had more of the brand and i realized it was more expensive in the store than online so i put it back and was heading out and a worker accused me of stealing and asked me if i wanted to pay for the lip balm i grabbed. Maybe it's because im in my early 20s or because im hispanic but i work in retail and we apprehend someone only when we know the item is missing. I will not be coming back to this store because of my in store experience, also the items are extremely overpriced unlike Sephora that carries the same brands with more helpful and friendly customer service. read more

I have shopped exclusively for make up and facial products at this location since way back when it was JD's Cosmetics. I have very sensitive skin and love the darphin skincare and Lune and Aster make up line. Over the winter I went to purchase a new primer and foundation and the salesperson extolled the virtues of Trish McEvoy makeup for sensitive skin, repeatedly saying Trish's husband is a dermatologist and this line is the best for sensitive skin. Turns out I am allergic to it. I tried to exchange for my old Lune and aster shades and they would not, I don't have a receipt any longer. Honestly my mistake for being unaware of their return policy but I have shopped here for so long and never had any issues in the past. Terrible customer service, as a decades long customer I cannot believe they would not extend me the courtesy of exchanging this one time since I was unaware of their return policy. The manager Randy was not there, she has always been a joy to work with. Not sure if the resolution would have been different if she had been but I will certainly shop elsewhere for all future purchases. read more

DON'T BUY HERE - GO TO SEPHORA INSTEAD!!! I always bought at this Westport location when it was Douglas so continued to make purchases once Blue Mercury took over. I'm pretty well done with this store and will shop only at Sephora from now on as they know about customer service! The last two pressed powder foundations i bough at this store cracked and broke off into chunks with most of the makeup still unused. The most recent one broke and fell onto my lap in my car onto my black skirt just as I arrived at work! I returned the first one and they quickly exchanged it, acknowledging that it should have never happened. I brought the second one back today and they said they could not exchange it as I bought it more than 30 days ago. Hello, I'm not here to return or exchange something I changed my mind about but am returning a defective product you sold! The two clueless sales girls told me to call or come back when the manager was in and maybe she would do something for me. Their other great idea was to tell me I could call or write the manufacturer. Really - I now have to come back again because you have an I adequately staffed store??!!! I have never had this happen before and find it very odd that the last two i bought from this store did the same thing. I can only guess that they did not properly handle or store their products while the store was undergoing the extensive renovations following the damage sustained after Storm Sandy. Whenever I was in during the renovations, the store was a mess, inventory was sparse and sketchy and the temperatures seemed uncomfortably hot and humid at times When i go to Sephora, anyone there can help me with anything and they stand behind anything you buy even if it is just something you bought, tried and just didn't like. My salesperson at the Trumbull Sephora even insisted I bring back an $80 moisturizer that I bought and had tried a few times and had causally mentioned that I didn't really care for. Not a wink of an issue when I brought it back the next time I was in the store which was probably a month and a half or two months after my original purchase!! Stores need to be aware of their competition and clearly Blue Mercury isn't!! read more
