I am SO impressed! I buy my beauty products at many places - Bluemercury, Sephora, Nordstrom, Credo. I usually have a good experience at all of them. However, Bluemercury has always been exceptionally good and my most recent experience is the reason. I came in a few days ago, restocked on some of my mainstays, was greeted immediately, and then given the freedom to just shop and browse without anyone hovering over me. When I had a question, the sales folks were more than helpful! The store was immaculate and everything was priced and easy to navigate. The next day I got an email about a 20% off promotion (Murphy's law) and I called to see about a price adjustment. Mindy on the phone could NOT have been more lovely! She looked up my purchase, figured out which items were eligible and refunded the difference with zero problem. No hassle, I didn't have to come back to the store, bring my items, nothing. It's come to my attention that I have an addiction to lipgloss. So while walking from Powell's Books to our next brewery, my eye caught the window display at Blue Mercury and we headed in to check it out. This place is a beauty product candy store. Makeup, skincare, haircare, fragrance... and a spa! It's remarkable how much they can tastefully fit into this store. We had friendly and helpful service, but I was surprised on how few cruelty-free products they carried. I did, however, find my new favorite lipgloss brand (Lune + Aster) that's both cruelty-free and vegan, so I left quite happy. If only the spa was open... Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. read more

Like any good girly-girl, I saw make-up and it smelled good so naturally, I HAD to check it out. It was like the mother ship was calling me home. Make-up and skincare and fragrance! Oh my! They have a lovely assortment of make-up, I am trying out a new lip color right now. I am always on the hunt for lip color that does not transfer. I am drinking a Yerba Mate out of a can right now and can see the lip color all over it so I'm not going to be buying this particular NARS product. But I do love NARS; especially the eyeshadows, so you can bet I'll be back for other products. The gal that was helping me was so sweet, in fact, all the folks working in there were super nice. My gal got the lipstick all sanitized for me to try and fixed me up after I had applied it so that it would set. Still, now that I see the lovely lip color all over my drink can, I'm disappointed because the color is so lovely. It was not apparent to me as I was browsing, but they informed me that this location has a full service spa. Usually Michelle and/or Matt helps me and they are amazing! They ship to me when I can't make it down to Portland and they really know their products. I am really crazy about my brows. I use to get them done at Anastasia in Nordstrom where I had an amazing brow lady there until they closed the Lloyd location and have been on hunt to find a convenient place with someone who can get my brows to be twins! Aubin is my new found love! She got my brows done in lightening speed, she was sooo sweet! Plus my brows are perfect! Popped in after work near closing time on a Thursday night to pick up a hair mask for my recently dyed hair (dark brown to blonde - took two long sessions and my hair was in SHOCK afterwards.) This was my first time going in and I was immediately blown away by the service! I didn't catch the woman's name who greeted me so warmly and helped with my purchase but Matthew at the register was amazing. I'm not huge on boutiques (I usually try Sephora or Nordstrom first to get points on cards) but for any higher end hair/skin/makeup products, I am definitely coming here first. These people know their stuff, they're super friendly, they have samples galore and there's a full size birthday gift when you sign up (Sephora could NEVER with their mini sized gifts!!!) After 12 days of back and forth emails with their corporate team, and their system dismissing my ticket without an actual resolution, I decided to simply resign to not shop with this store again. Then, by chance I ended up back on this review [hadn't cleared my history] and I see an obviously planted 5-star review from someone with no other reviews, 5 days after mine, who made it a point to address and negate everything I said in my review, line by line. It's highly suspicious, and most likely a plant from one of their employees, to which I say- why go through all this trouble? Why not just do better and stop following black people around your stores, or better yet, address legitimate customer service complaints from people who formerly spent thousands of dollars in your stores instead of this sham Yelp patchjob to save face? It was my first time visiting Portland after camping in Northern California and needed a pick me up. I usually would go to a regular spa for a facial or Macys for my makeup but I noticed how much fun the customers were having interacting with the sales staff. I walked in and was greeted by I believe the store manager Sara ( she is stunning BTW). She helped me pick out a few products and spoke so highly of her team that I had to sign up for a facial that day. I really enjoyed my time at Blue Mercury and I felt really taken care off. No question was off limits, and Sara being such an iconic makeup artist herself I knew I was in good hands. My facial was very relaxing and I loved the oxygen machine. The staff here is so friendly and super knowledgeable! I go out of my way after work to shop here because they really know their products and are so current with trends. They carry brands that have a large selection of foundation shades so I'm always able to get a perfect match! Been in here about 4 times and during one visit it was friendly but only because an angry homeless woman came in and called a saleswoman names--I helped the saleswoman calm down a bit by helping them get the yelling woman out of the store and then we joked about it to try to calm nerves....but anyway, on the the main review--mostly, the young women in here are using the snobby thingy to sell and that just doesn't work on me and isn't my style. They don't help, don't encourage experimentation of products and I had NO IDEA that it was a spa too (found out reading these reviews). I did go in not too long ago and they had a fun/nice DJ playing but still, shitty customer service. The cashier was friendly and but others snobby. To middle-age shoppers who have money but who want authentically friendly fast & accurate information and service, they fall short. Positives: beautiful and clean store. Today I spent an hour with Matt, the fabulous salesperson/makeup ace searching for the perfect shade of red lipstick. After tons of trials, we skipped over the reds and ended up with two rogue recommendations from Matt steering me to a copper color and dark maroon, both beating out the aforementioned trials of red. I'm a lipstick lover and have spent hours in shops searching for the perfect color, but no time has been as well spent, memorable or as fun as today. Matt was patient, knowledgable and simply delightful. He's an ace of a makeup artist and I commend you, Blue Mercury, for hiring such wonderful people like him.
