I had a terrible experience here. My and my mother in law came in around 11 am on Black Friday. The store was not busy. Two women working, one with curly hair and one with long brown hair. We stood around waiting for someone to help us for quite a while. The woman with long brown hair seemed to only be interested in one customer. Following her around like a puppy dog... I guess they work on commission and she thought that it was going to be a big sale?? She broke away for one second and we asked her about if they had an unopened Kiehls lotion and she said she would look in the back, then proceeded to put the lotion down on the chair and go back to helping the other woman. We stood around waiting again, thinking she would eventually come back to look and never did. We then asked the other sales associate, who was trying her best. By this time there were more customers and she wasn't getting any help from her co-worker who was still only helping one customer. To make it worse, I tried to purchase a lipstick and their iPad wouldn't work. So after an hour in the store we left empty handed. Best part the sales lady's customer that was helped for an hour straight left without purchasing anything. Serves that sales lady right. I will never shop here again. Terrible service. read more

Even if it is a small question about deals going on or if we are having issues with blemishes they stop what they're doing to make us their first priority. Two stars as it is partially my fault for not having the time to really assess what the sales team guided me on, however i had a quick minute to run into to Blue Mercury and request a sulfate-free, paraben-free, alcohol-free, fragrance-free face wash. Four extremely nice sales team folks directed me to their team lead who immediately and confidently recommended a Laura Mercier face cleanser to fit the bill, and i purchased it. When i got home and actually checked out the ingredient list it was fragrance-free, but loaded with sulfates/sulfites, parabens, and alcohol. I live out of town and so no chance of returning it - again, my bad. Everyone i saw/spoke to from the sales team had gorgeous skin and accommodating personalities, however i figure they either don't truly know their product lines or are most highly focused upon sales contests promoting Laura Mercier (or whatever the sales quota or contest of the month may be). read more

I was originally going to Cos bar to try Tom Ford makeup, but the 3 sales people were too busy and frankly not that interested in helping me. But that led me Michele at Blue Mercury so I am grateful. I am 50ish and just did not know what to do with my makeup anymore. After spending time with the La Mer rep (who was also very helpful and knowledgeable) she introduced me to Michele. Michele walked me through how to add just the right amount of color to my eyes, cheeks and lips. She worked with me to use the makeup I have at home as well as what I could add. I did not feel pushed to buy anything. But frankly she did so much for my self esteem I would have bought anything she suggested. Truly one of the best shopping experiences I have ever had. I continue to give this store a chance but always encounter the same condescending manager working in the store. Most recently I asked her several questions about a few brands I was unaware they carried - the demeaning tone and pretentiousness that came through in her responses was very insulting. "We've had this brand for more than a year" like I was supposed to know that. However I painfully spent money that day. On a previous visit, I was ready to explore the Chanel line of products and had the most energetic and knowledgeable staff member helping me. We were chatting over various cosmetic brands and compared Chanel items etc. we probably spoke for about 5-8 minutes (all the while I am filling up my hands w expensive Chanel goodies) and the same manager mentioned in this review earlier comes over and says to her employee in front of me "Times up, you need to move on." Of course in her same condescending way. I was mortified for myself and for the nice employee who was helping me. The staff member moved away immediately ending our consultation when I was prepared to and INTENDED TO SPEND MORE. I purchased my items, again painfully, and left the store feeling extremely uncomfortable and insulted. I have spent over 12 years managing people and have never seen such a terrible display of leadership/management. You never reprimand a team member in front of a customer. It's embarrassing for all members involved. I am considering never shopping at this store again. I cringe every time I see this store manager on site. read more

Not sure why my friend and I listened to a girl in her 20's on what creams are good for a women in her 60's. We thought she knew what she was talking about...my friend's face started to get dry from what she recommended. We went back to Bluemercury in Hinsdale, IL and they informed us she was sold the wrong products for her skin. Thank goodness Bluemercury exchanged everything we bought and led us in the right direction. read more

My best friend and I were in Charleston for a wedding last weekend and wanted to have our makeup done before the ceremony. We figured we wouldn't be able to find anything on such short notice, but walked into Blue Mercury on Saturday morning and they were more than accommodating in fitting us in later that day. We absolutely loved the experience and how our makeup turned out! Michelle did my makeup and made me feel completely at ease and talked through my ideas at length. Went in to find Nars concealer. They were out of this particular color and said I could put my name down on a waiting list, however, they said, it's out EVERYWHERE and it could possibly be a LONG wait, so you should probably buy something else. I told them I'd take my chances. I went home, and low and behold, they had it available online at Sephora. That was 3 months ago and I sill haven't gotten a phone call. I think I will stick to Cos Bar. read more

The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable....they've even run products out to my car when I wasn't able to find a parking space!!....and they always have a product answer for my concerns without over-selling me!
