We ordered a few hand rolls to go, but they ended up making them as regular sushi rolls because apparently they only do hand rolls for dine-in. It would've been nice if they told us that before we ordered. We ate the rolls right away and honestly it was a huge letdown. I always order the salmon (sake) donburi, which has a generous portion of salmon sashimi and a number of accompaniments on a bed of rice: tamago, shredded daikon, ginger beef, seaweed salad, crab salad, and spicy tuna. Hubby has ordered various nigiri and hand rolls and they never disappoint. And now we no longer have to snag chopsticks from neighboring establishments since they finally upgraded theirs, yay! Very excited that we have a sushi place so close to us now! The sushi here is great, and they have a goos 6-set combo. The food is great, but the service will depend on who's working. The first few times we came it was great, but most recently we got a bit of shade from one of the guys when we asked for a cut roll when we were given a hand roll (which wasn't what we ordered). They made the change (cut the roll) but said a snarky comment about telling us not to order the wrong thing next time before retreating back to the kitchen. This place is easily .. hands down .. one of the best sushi spots in West Covina! They are located inside a food hall within a shopping plaza. The sushi chef is very friendly and attentive! He noticed my boyfriend and I were sitting for awhile waiting to place our orders. He took matters into his own hands and asked us what we would like. We each opted for the 6 piece hand roll set. It came with miso soup. Each roll was made to perfection! The ingredients were fresh and he doesn't skimp on the quantity! Just look at the delicious cuts of fish in the photos below! I've come here a couple of times and it has never disappointed. Bluefin is located in the Haven City Market. They have a sushi bar seating style. Because this is a vendor in a shared space, the seating is more intimate than if you were to dine at a standalone sushi restaurant. My go-to is the set handrolls. I believe I've tried all of them, if not most of them. I cannot say one bad thing about this place. The quality of their fish is top-notch as is their service. The fish can be enjoyed with or without the soy sauce in my opinion because they're incredibly silky. The rice and the seaweed they're wrapped in compliments them so well. When I eat at their bar, I feel like I'm in a separate restaurant because of the care that I receive, making it well-worth the price. My top two rolls are the toro and blue crab. This past weekend we ordered some food here since they were participating in the Fiesta Filipino Night. We made sure to orders $20+ to enter into a raffle for giveaways. The spot has remodeled since I last remembered. They still have the sushi bar seating but now on the side of the bar are built in seats which is a nice ambiance. The staff/service this particular visit was stellar. We ordered the 4 Set Hand Roll options and the chefs asked if they wanted it cut in half to share. We opted for that and that's a nice touch. We'd never had that offered to us at a hand roll bar before but it turned out to be a game changer especially if sharing with a loved one. Each hand roll came out in a timely matter. The staff checked on us constantly and cleared out the plates when needed. Each hand roll was so delicious. The blue crab HR was my personal favorite. The chefs even gave us some "on the house" items to try. Bluefin served up some family vibes with high quality hand rolls. We felt well taken care of the entire time. We decided to have a late lunch at this hand roll bar at Haven food court. I liked the spacious counter seatings. The food menu was bigger than I thought. We have tried two set menus with blue crab and toro hand rolls, salmon skin fried rice and miso ramen. Also hamachi fish collar and a few à la carte hand rolls. I didn't get to try them as they were the most fisted place during the scavenger hunt event so I took the chance to finally do so. I got the: 1) 3 Set Hand Roll: -Since it was a pick up to go order, the rolls were cut to preserve quality and texture of the seaweed. -I'm not sure if staff were in a rush, but the fish to rice ratio at certain parts of the cut were way off. Some looked like it was way too much rice and not enough fish, or vice versa like the roll itself wasn't made uniformly before it was cut. -Fish was fresh for the tuna and salmon, but it was also strangely bland? No fatty deliciousness, like it tasted like non offensive cold flesh if that makes any sense. -The blue crab was much better since it had a rich creamy depth to it. 2) Salmon Donburi: -Salmon was a bit paler in color than the salmon used in the rolls, so maybe a different cut. A bit fattier in taste, but still was slightly bland cold flesh to me. -However the addition of the seaweed salad, ikura, blue crab, and perilla leaves amongst other ingredients made the bowl much more tolerable. I liked that the wasabi wasn't the straight up paste from the tube, definitely had a better horse radish taste and I liked the grittiness of it. Depending on the time and day I feel like wait times can be long. The bar seating probably allows up to 10 customer but I could be wrong. There is always to-go option if you don't want to wait. One of the best places at Haven city. It's located on the corner of the main area when you come in, just before you head to GW market. You can eat at the bar or eat elsewhere at the market. Depends what kind of atmosphere you'd like or how big your party may be. I have yet to eat at the bar since we always try to eat from multiple places at haven. It and share, but plan to next time to try the omakase that people are raving about. Staff is super friendly. I've only tried their hand roll set, 4 and 6 piece sets. I think the price is more than fair for what you get. The fish is fresh and delicious. Good portions. Big fan of toro and the blue crab. Salmon, tuna, yellowtail were delicious as well, plenty of fish in the handroll so you don't feel like you're only eating rice. One inconsistency is the albacore. The employees were nice. I got the 5 set cut roll to eat in the food court. It didn't take long to come out. Overall, it was fine, but I wasn't impressed for the price since it was $27. The salmon and tuna quality was good! The crab had bits of crab shell in it, which was hard to eat around. The seared albacore was fine. I didn't realize it was going to be spicy though since it was just listed as "albacore" on the menu. The day after Grand Opening Day at Haven City Market West Covina, I came back to try out new food vendors. I was very intentional in which ones I wanted to eat at. Bluefin Handroll Bar was one of them. I decided to dine-in rather than do take-out. I had to wait for about 5 mins before the staff gave the thumbs up for me to sit. The bar is not very big... probably fits about 8 people max. They offer handrolls in a pre-selected set or you may create your own set of handrolls at a la carte prices. Yes, their sets may be a few dollars cheaper, but their choice of handrolls may not be the best. So it all depends on what you like. I created my own set with 2 salmon, 1 tuna, and 1 blue crab. Salmon was my favorite hands down! Tuna was good. Blue crab was my least favorite because it didn't have the crab taste I was looking for. Overall quality was good. Staff was okay. Service was a little slow. I wanted all my handrolls to be served at the same time so I can take photos. Of course, they didn't know and I didn't communicate with them sooner, hence, the delay as they were waiting for me to finish the handroll I had. As I approached the counter, we were warmly greeted by the host. The host was kind enough to walk me through the menu and also explain the differences between the two omakase options. I ended up ordering the premium chirashi and 2 blue crab hand rolls. The hand rolls were delicious. The only critique is the presentation of the rolls. Would have been more appealing if rolled into a cone to show off the quality of crab used. On the other hand, the premium chirashi was beautifully presented. I don't recall the names of each fish, but everything was exquisite and most importantly fresh. Beneath the fish was a tasty bed of sushi rice and a side of gullianed radish.
