WHY take public transportation, or an Uber, or some "experience" where a so-called 'guide' takes your group to do some experiences you're not even interested in ... when you can take a Blue Bus?
Blue Bus was SO easy to book (we lit. booked it 12 hours before hand, and didn't even pay until we showed up to catch the bus). It's a private charter from downtown Mexico City directly to the Teotihuacan site. The bus itself (a VW) was basically a limousine-style bus with room for 10-12 people (we only had 7 total) ... basically brand new ... with air conditioning (not that it's needed).
On the way to the site, they play a PBS Documentary on the overhead screen about Teotihuacan, which shockingly ends at the exact time you arrive at the site. On the way back they play a different documentary about Mexico City! I mean ... you aren't going to get that on the METRObus.
They leave downtown at roughly 09:30, and the return trip is scheduled at 1:30PM ... and it's an hour's ride each way. So from 10:30 until 1:30, you tour Teotihuacan on your own terms (and trust us--3 hours is plenty of time to take in the site). Back in the city by 2:30-ish, you have the rest of the day to spare.
I fail to see why you'd do it any other way. You can schedule your own mezcal tasting, why would you go with a group of people you don't even know to something you might not even want to do?
Oh, and there are snacks. Like, we had CHURROS in the morning on the bus, and--not even kidding--beers and chips on the way back. Highly recommended. BE SURE to bring a small tip for the driver and guide! read more
