Let me explain: A friend was celebrating a milestone birthday and spending the weekend in Asheville. We thought of so many different things we could do to celebrate from afar, but nothing felt "milestone"...it felt ordinary. Until, in a search, I ran across South Slope Cheese. Not only did we arrange for the delivery of an amazing cheese board to my friend's hotel, they went the extra mile when they learned my friend is vegan. They called, asked questions all around my friend's preferences, even worked with the hotel to make sure the delivery was kept in the right spot waiting for my friend's check in. All reports of the surprise pointed to every single bit of special and delicious was absolutely wonderful. Every cheese was delicious...and my friend didn't even realize all of the cheese options on the tray were totally vegan!!!! She was crying when she realized just how much care South Slope Cheese put into making this truly a treat for HER. The extra time and care they took really telegraphed to me that they not only care about their customers and the experience...but about the cheese! I may NEVER set foot in this wonderful shop because I don't live in the area, but I will ALWAYS recommend and praise this wonderful business.

I always love the jams and mustards that are paired with a board, and Looking Glass' did not disappoint. The cider was also yummy! I got the blood orange one, which was nicely flavored and light. My husband got the bourbon aged cider, and it was also very good! I liked it more than I thought I would for not being a bourbon lover. The service was so friendly the kindest people! We came with two other couples, and it was such a fun spot to chat, eat, and drink! Really loved it.

I abhor chili with excessive green pepper, but HNG's was spot on. J had the hot dog which, like their bologna, was superb. Also discovered Smokin J's chipotle hot sauce, really nice flavor with medium heat, got a bottle for home. We'll be heading there again soon! And yes, HNG has both a deli counter and small cafe in the primary building, first one you come to on left of driveway.

Granted this happened around 2017 so things could have changed a lot by now but I wouldn't know since I never went back. I want to vote for you Jamie but good God clean this up. All the cheese products and meat available are in the multiple refrigerators, plus there are tons of other snacks, goodies, a gift ideas all around the store. There is plenty of gravel parking spots. We absolutely loved there cheddar which was mild and easy to pair, but we think the Gouda is our favorite. We got some bagel chips to go with our garlic spread to snack on. Back then it was called Troyer's but recently went back and the entire shopping/dining experience has been elevated in the best of ways!!!! I was greeted immediately when I walked in by a super sweet couple rocking out the incredible sandwiches! I found out they had been making the Troyer's sandwiches for years which was so cool. Come to find out they now have beef, pork, lamb & chicken for sale grown right on the same property! I grilled a ribeye that next day and the flavor was on par with anything from the chop shop! I also found out they have a CSA that delivers right to my home which makes for least waste and need to use the corporate grocery store so often. The grocery section has so many options from dry goods to locally made products they have you covered. I picked up goats milk soap, spicy pickles, champagne mustard, old world candy, and an amazing soup my family loved. The oatmeal crème pie is by far the best dessert after an amazing sandwich I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying. I also grabbed a loaf of fresh baked and it was to die for!
