I sat for a while reading books about psychology and medicine, but I saw a ton of cookbooks, advice books, various fiction genres, and so on. At the front, they have a more rare books for a higher price. Staff was friendly and greeted me as soon as I entered the door, but did not bother me while I was walking around. They were out of the way but ready to assist when needed. It seemed like they had a few common customers as they were on a first name basis with several people who walked in the store! My only regret is not coming here sooner.

The best thing about this business is that they play the front and back side of every single record…read morebefore they give it a rating or put it on the shelf. That's the kind of business that you want to buy a record from because the most important thing about purchasing a record for personal use or investment is knowing the quality of the record. We spent quite a bit of time going through the store and talking to the individual who was manning the registrar. I'm playing the records. He was both knowledgeable, professional, and enjoyable to speak with. We would come back here in a heartbeat.

Ok, so the prior review is like two years old from a kindly fellow yelper....and maybe due to the…read morefact that its a bit dated....there may have been price changes since then (and by that I mean mark ups). This place was NOT great. In fact it was the opposite of great....and I LOVE finding really great Thrift Stores too! I'm bummed :(. The prices were high (and by that I mean 4-5 dollars or more for not so great clothes), and though the staff members were quite nice (I added a star for that by the way) the selection was mainly women's ONLY and the selection was just ehhhh (and by that I mean, "thanks, but NO thanks!") They had no children's clothing, barely any men's clothing, and the women's selection sucked and needs someone new pricing this stuff so they can reduce the yuck inventory and get up with the times on selling the good stuff. My fellow people....my fellow Yelpers...I implore you to DONATE to this place???!!! It's by donation ONLY around here guys....and maybe they don't have a good donation system going right about now since they are a non-profit and all (thats what the other star was for btw since I love that they are trying to help families experiencing domestic violence). So they need YOUR cool clothes to help save this place from being a disaster when it comes to style...because its really really lacking right now in the style department....and again....if the staff does review these Yelp comments....please head to your nearest thrift stores and/or garage sales so you can better ascertain what the actual price range should be for your clothing items. At the prices your asking now, your going to keep that inventory for a good long time....and I do mean LLOOONNGGG (as in you may never unload that stuff at the prices your selling them at on anybody....at anytime....ever)

From the riverside, I always thought this place was a restaurant but once I got closer, I realized…read morethat it was an antique shop. I guess The Purser's Chest would be a weird name for a restaurant. We walked in on the street side and it immediately looked like a small town furniture store but old school. Don't get me wrong, I fell in love with a couple of Settes that I thought I had to have, but for the most part, it looked like some things my grandparents would really like. Towards the back were some more upscale antique items, some french lamps, chest of drawers with hand engraving on the side, very nice items. I purchased a tray to sit summer cocktails on when we are hanging on our back screened in porch. I am not an antique expert but lots of the items were very pricey. There was a loveseat I fell in love with that had a clearance sign but upon inspection, clearance was $4000.
