Big bronco outside of the airport. It sure is big. You can see it from the train. Hard to get to unless by car. This is pretty cool to see coming and going. Cool story about this art. It killed its creator. True story. It was created by Luis Jimenez. When he was making it, a piece of it fell off. It fell on him and cut an artery in his leg. This killed him so it's kind of morbid thinking about this. After he died, his family and staff helped finish it. The eyes glow which makes it look like a demon and people often call it Blucifer because of this. It greets people heading to the airport. It's located on Pena Boulevard where it curves. The best way to get to it is by car but you can see it from the trains.

This statue is a really cool sight while driving to/from the airport! Especially when it is lit up at night. Our Uber driver told us the "legend" of the statue and why it has been nicknamed "Blucifer." The artist who created the sculpture had the piece fall on him while he was installing it, resulting in his death. Since then no one has wanted to move it!

Naw five stars. Longer I'm here I love it more. Such a weird thing. Killing people. Conspiracies about DIA. Employee parking is extremely close to the statue. Both landslide and airside lots so you get a view closer than most. Would be nice I guess if people could get closer. Then again that opens things up for vandalism. Increased roadside vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Bla Bla Bla. Really it's just a quirky art installation. Much like the rest of the airport. Props to the curator going wild and giving this airport a unique flavor. Much like Seattle with the Sub Pop record store. Or Portland, Oregon's famous carpet. Had some similar art on my campus people hated. But the more hate it gets the more i warm up to it. BLUCIFER is BAE. 10/10

    A new location perhaps....

    Jack Swigert Statue - Close-Up 09-04-2024

John Leonard Swigert, Jr. was known as "Jack". He was born in Denver, CO in 1931…read more This bronze statue is a duplicate of the one in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. It was created by brothers George Lundeen and Mark Lundeen. Who hasn't heard this quote, "Houston, we have a problem."? Well, actually, Jack Swigert didn't exactly say it that way. He said it this way, "Houston, we've had a problem here" regarding the oxygen tank explosion on the Apollo 13. The line is incorrectly quoted as "Houston, we have a problem" and this misquote is what we all have heard and know. Swigert was a US Air Force Pilot and a Fighter Pilot in Japan and South Korea. Jack also served as a jet fighter pilot in the Air National Guard. At age 38, he made his first and only space flight on the Apollo 13. On that mission, the Apollo 13 mission was supposed to be a moon landing but that was cancelled due to an oxygen tank explosion. The three astronauts on board returned safely. Swigert was a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom from this mission. Jack was elected to the U.S. Congress, but died of cancer before his congressional term began on December 27, 1982 in Washington, D.C.. Where is this statue located? It's in the Denver International Airport (DIA) in Terminal B. When you arrive at the Elrey B Jeppesen entrance, you need to go through TSA and take the train to B Gates, which is the second stop. You should see him when you step off the train there. Go check it out even if this isn't your terminal to fly out from. You can catch the next train on to your necessary terminal after viewing it.

They greeted us immediately and gave us a map of the property. We had fun walking around and checking out the animals and historic buildings on site. It is wild this place is right in the middle of a neighborhood. The only issue we had was parking because we the lot is full you're out of options.

Wow, my yesterday's visit to this historic park was so mesmerizing. It's because of their annual…read more(?) "Bright Nights" (originally a lantern festival.) It is said that they unveil a brand new theme each year and this year's theme appears to be focused on some Eastern cultures such as cherry blossom and bamboo forest with pandas. Not that I have been to many lights shows and yet I must say that I have never seen anything quite like this as far as my recollection is accurate. In its 12-acre land, the installations of lantern lights are everywhere. After 8:30pm or so when it's dark, the illuminations from the lanterns are glowing brighter than Las Vegas' illuminations (LOL - why am I comparing this to Las Vegas!!) According to the park's website, some of the sculptures are 23-foot tall (such as the cherry blossom gate.) It's currently open from Wednesday through Sunday until October 5th. And last night's was one of the adult-only nights where you must be 21+ to enter (I believe the next and last such night is Sept 17th. And this writing is as of late August of 2025.) I am already curious as to what the next year's theme is going to be. There is a centralized bar, some food vendors, a stage where a performer performs, and a DJ booth. Great for family time, girls' night or date night. Helpful staff were working tirelessly to assist all visitors. Although about 1,300 tickets were sold last night, it was never super jammed packed. There is still time to visit this enchanting light show. Not only for the locals but definitely one of the must-visit attractions for out-of-staters as well.

About a 5-minute walk to check-in/luggage drop area. -Note for cat owners: There's a lot of hiding spots for cats, so if you have an early flight, set aside extra time to herd them out. Luckily, one of our cats hid in the bathroom the entire time and the other has decent recall and would come out of underneath the bed when called.
