It's very hard to get a decent picture because it is kind of far from the road & there's nowhere to legally pull over. It is only advisable to take the pictures as a passenger! I've purposefully had my son drive so I could attempt to take pictures of it. On my last visit, I saw it from my Rent-A-Car Shuttle back to the Denver International Airport for my flight. I took advantage of the opportunity to take more pictures. He is visible on Pena Blvd to both coming and going to the airport. It's been greeting people since 2008. This Blue Mustang is also known as "Blucifer" and he is located on airport property, but about 4 to 5 miles away from the main terminal. It's made from cast-fiberglass. It stands at 32 ft. and has eerie red eyes. The eyes are red LED Floodlights. They do a great job of piercing light through most weather!! Not so fun fact: A section of the horse fell on the sculptor, Luis Jiménez, killing him. I think I would like to see him close up, but I'm not sure. It is pretty cool yet creepy at the same time! read more

On the way driving in or out of the Denver airport, you can see the 30-foot tall blue rearing-horse sculpture called Blucifer. It's between the incoming and outgoing lanes of Peña Blvd, where it turns from east-west to north-south. But right there, you cant pull over, or even slow down. The closest drive is the ramp from southbound Peña to northbound, but that ramp was closed when we were there. From further away, to get a full front-view, find the curve south of Peña on 75th Av at Harry B Combs Pkwy or near the UPS center at Robertsdale St. It's not a busy road, so you can pull over briefly. You can also get a nice profile-view from the curve on 78th Av north of Peña. There must be a great view from the permit-only parking lot at that curve. After dark, the statue's eye glow a burning red! We were there during the day this time. (Summer 2026). But even a daytime drive-by on Peña Blvd is pretty cool. read more

One of Denver's landmarks and a must that I have to either point out or take pics/record every time I leave or arrive at the airport. I mean, how could you NOT love a ginormous blue mustang statue rearing up with piercing red laser eyes? Makes for really great scenes at night with some clouds in the skies nearby too. A little bit of an eerie tidbit, but the creator of the piece, Luis Jiménez, was tragically killed when a piece of it fell on him in 2006, severing a leg artery, causing him to bleed to death on the floor. It allegedly unnerves some locals but as a certified forced to travel weird girl, it's neat! Just don't look between the legs, allegedly it's super veiny and detailed... I found a cute reusable recycled tote bag at the Denver airport with a chibi Blucifer on it, so merch does exist too! read more

Don't ask me why this was the #1 thing I really wanted to see during my first trip to Denver of my life! Blucifer is just such a wild sculpture and has such a morbid history around it (Blucifer literally killed the artist when a piece of it that the artist was installing fell and punctured him right in his femoral artery). It's truly so odd in both placement and vibe. You can't miss it as you leave the Denver airport, you will always pass by it. It's located essentially in the middle giant island of a highway up on a hill. It's a whole royal blue colored mustang horse rearing up on its hind legs with red eyes that shine red at all hours of the day. Truly a devil horse LOL! It's definitely a sight to see, but I'm disappointed in the fact that you can't get close to it. There's no pathway to drive up close to it like a tourist stop and like I mentioned, with its located in the middle of a highway, there is really no option to pull off to the side to stop and check it out, so it also feels a bit impossible to appreciate it and take a good picture of it! Given how excited I was to see it for myself, this was a huge bummer that I had been anticipating being able to get close to it, but ultimately falling very very short of that. Still such a sight to behold though! read more

This 32 foot tall horse guards the entrance to Denver International Airport. A bright blue with glowing neon eyes, ain't nobody going to mess with this place! And yes, his nickname is "Blucifer" and - no kidding - he killed the artist. Yes, in 2006, a huge portion of the sculpture fell and injured the sculptor. There is no stopping or standing or parking on Peña Boulevard. There is no parking nearby. Getting to this statue is a PITA. The local cops will definitely try to move you along. If they could just have some sort of "15 minute parking only" nearby, that would be awesome. [Review 18980 overall - 80 in Colorado - 2504 of 2022.] read more

Blue Mustang - Blue Mustang, aka Blucifer, outside DEN - Public Art Near Me - Denver, Colorado

The Blue Mustang, which is colloquially known as Blucifer, is a cast-fiberglass sculpture of a mustang located at Denver airport. The sculpture was designed to capture the spirit of the wild west, representing freedom and boldness. The pair of the red eyes on the blue sculpture is sort of scary. read more

Big bronco outside of the airport. It sure is big. You can see it from the train. Hard to get to unless by car. This is pretty cool to see coming and going. Cool story about this art. It killed its creator. True story. It was created by Luis Jimenez. When he was making it, a piece of it fell off. It fell on him and cut an artery in his leg. This killed him so it's kind of morbid thinking about this. After he died, his family and staff helped finish it. The eyes glow which makes it look like a demon and people often call it Blucifer because of this. It greets people heading to the airport. It's located on Pena Boulevard where it curves. The best way to get to it is by car but you can see it from the trains. read more

Blue Mustang - From Train - Public Art Near Me - Denver, Colorado

BLUCIFER! How can you drive by and not think that he is awesome? This art piece is one of my favorite things about DIA. I am always greeted by the giant blue bronco with glowing red eyes. It's so mysterious and fun, yet everyone knows the tragic history behind the creation. Yes, the making of the piece did kill it's creator, Luis Jimenez, but blucifer is such a magnificent creation that it just had to be shown. A lot of people have superstitions that if you get too close or touch the sculpture that you will die too. To each their own.. read more

He may be evil with red eyes and pronounced junk hanging down, but he's OUR evil red-eyed beast!

This statue is a really cool sight while driving to/from the airport! Especially when it is lit up at night. Our Uber driver told us the "legend" of the statue and why it has been nicknamed "Blucifer." The artist who created the sculpture had the piece fall on him while he was installing it, resulting in his death. Since then no one has wanted to move it! read more

Yowser! Big Scary Blue Beast! SITREP Can't imagine what the bastard offspring between Babe the Giant Blue Ox and the large Trojan Horse would look like? Well look no further! Here is the devilish spawn - the GIANT BLUE BRONCO that graces the grounds of the Denver International Airport (DIA)! SETUP It's a local ICON filled with mystery AND murder (if you count the fact that part of this massive statue structure fell and killed it's creator before it was finished. DEMONIC Oh. You think I'm exaggerating? Here's an excerpt from the April 18, 2008 DENVER POST: http://www.denverpost.com/ci_8961169 "Its nostrils and mane flare maniacally as if it senses a lightning storm in the area. Then there are the eyes, red, penetrating and of all things, illuminated. They glare from the darkness while the entire piece is lit from below. The overall effect is disturbing if not downright frightening." HILARIOUS Because of it's massive size, it's probably the only statue that you CAN SEE on the ground - either as you are taking off or landing from DIA - where you can check into it from your flight itself (just don't let the flight attendant's catch you doing that on take off - they use strong decibel tones at you). THE LOWDOWN I feel honored to be threatened by this beast in my dreams. read more

A couple of years ago when I reviewed "1 Sentence Yelp Reviews," I made an argument that they are useful if they make a valid point. Being my shortest Yelp review in years this is my rare 1 sentence Yelp review: " The DIA Giant Blue Bronco statue with its striking red eyes that everybody sees entering and leaving Denver International Airport is the ultimate conversation piece on Denver art that gets people; whether in a ride share, cafe, online, or anyplace talking." I take back the 1 Sentence Yelp review. I am a supporter of the DIA Giant Blue Bronco statue. After years of traveling where I have seen more than a handful of airports surrounded by blight, I appreciate the DIA Giant Blue Bronco statue fronting acres of open prarie fronting a horizon of Rockies with the Denver skyline. read more

Ah, the Blue Bronco (aka Blucifer) of DIA. When I first came to Denver via plane (back in 2006) I couldn't decided if it freaked me out or intrigued me. As the years have gone by, I have heard more of the lore surrounding the Blue Bronco and talked with fellow locals about it; I can safely say it's grown on me. The Blue Bronco does exactly what art is meant to do: inspire and encourage conversation! Thanks Blucifer for creepily welcoming me home with your unwavering amber gaze. Always a sign that I'm in Denver. read more

Denver is a very artist friendly city. No matter what part of the city you are in there will likely be some form of art. Be it a painting, a mural, a statue, or a sculpture. I very much like works of art and try to research it's history and that of the artist. When researching the history of the Blue Mustang I found that during it's creation it fell on it's creator crushing and killing him. Which gives it's a creepy and kind of spooky vibe. That along with it's red eyes. But its become an Denver icon welcoming you to the city when you are traveling to or from the airport. read more

When one creates art, is then killed by their own art, the rest of us can't help but discuss just that! Although this weird statue has been standing on his hind legs outside of the airport for quite some time now, I have to admit, he's widely known for his (ahem) parts, glowing eyes, and promotes interesting conversation - as Carly P mentioned! Denverites know him, and now you do too! read more

Naw five stars. Longer I'm here I love it more. Such a weird thing. Killing people. Conspiracies about DIA. Employee parking is extremely close to the statue. Both landslide and airside lots so you get a view closer than most. Would be nice I guess if people could get closer. Then again that opens things up for vandalism. Increased roadside vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Bla Bla Bla. Really it's just a quirky art installation. Much like the rest of the airport. Props to the curator going wild and giving this airport a unique flavor. Much like Seattle with the Sub Pop record store. Or Portland, Oregon's famous carpet. Had some similar art on my campus people hated. But the more hate it gets the more i warm up to it. BLUCIFER is BAE. 10/10 read more

I know lots of people don't like the DIA Blue Bronco, but I love it!! It just captures the essence of Colorado very well. The red eyes to me means people better behave themselves when visiting Colorado! It is sad that the original sculptor lost his life creating it, but wonderful that his family completed it for him. read more

This weekend, I went to Colorado for the first time. As soon as I managed to drag my bag out the door, my friends came and picked me up. From there they told me the strange story of how this Mustang from Hell came to be... The story itself is pretty interesting. With the artist dying from his own work, the statue seems pretty mysterious in itself. But the thing that's so friggin haunting is obviously the eyes... They glowed even in the midst of a mini snow storm! What were they thinking!? read more

Welcome to Denver, check your equine soul at the gate. Only monster mustangs and soulless stallions are welcome in this town. Those fiery red eyes protect the airport and the city with the desperate cries of thousands of bucked buckaroos and a twisted mane of carnage. Of course I like Bluecifer! Whenever I come home or leave the fine city of Denver, there stands the demonic he-horse that killed his maker jutted out of the plains like a harbinger of demonic retribution from every horse that was ever tamed and ridden, turned into dog food or glue. NY has the Statue of Liberty, SF has the Golden Gate bridge, Seattle has the Space Needle. We have the iconic crazed blue horse. Nothing says welcome to our fair city like a big blue statue with a plump and oddly accentuated anus. read more

Whenever Im heading into DIA, you are there standing tall. Rain or shine, snow or hail, you are waiting for me. I don't have to feed you or take you to the vet. You dont get jeoulse if I don't have time to play. Best of all, no pile of sh€¥ to clean up when you are done. You are the first one to welcome you when you check in. He is the one says "nice seeing you again" when you return. Even though we give you nothing but craps, thank you for standing tall watching over us! read more

Pros: -it's blue -it's fun to make fun of -allows me to better my Photoshop skills Cons: -completely hideous -$650,000 to build -artist died while making it (it does enhance the creepiness of it) -have you seen the genitals on this sucker? -horrible pose, with ridiculous proportions (it's like a T-rex mixed with an elephant, mixed with a donkey) It's too bad there's no other route out to DIA... I'll be heading out there on Saturday and am eager to have me a good laugh! This guy also made a smaller version at Oklahoma University (google it). Love all the hype this is getting, there's a facebook page and it's getting some great media exposure. I posted an idea for a new location of this beast.... check it out! read more

I'm a big fan of public art so I was very excited to see the giant blue horse. I don't think he looks demonic, just bad ass. And unfortunately I wasn't close enough to see that he was anatomically correct (thanks for that detail Anna B). Is he supposed to be a Bronco? So he's a celebration of sport? Is he a recognition of the role of the horse in the conquering (WE WILL CONQUER) the American west? Is he just a giant horsie? Probably all of the above. Thanks again to Anna who let us know the artist was killed by the horse, so maybe he is possessed. I'm going with Native American spirit who is angered by the new airport. read more

Art is one of my favorite things in life. As we know, art is open to interpretation. Well, my impression of this piece of art is, "CREEPY" As if it's not weird enough that the Bronco is blue, it is crazy that there are bright glowing red eyes on this sucker. It frightens small children and seems to make no sense to me at all. Two thumbs down. read more

Also known as Blucifer, this cyanotic, psychotic statue with glowing red eyes is notable not only for being anatomically correct but for having killed its creator (read about it at https://www.cpr.org/2019/11/04/everything-you-ever-wanted-to-know-about-blucifer-the-demon-horse-of-dia/ ). Allegedly, the statue is there to "guard" travelers (from what, missionaries?) but as a piece of public art I think it's more garish than anything. It says "Welcome to Denver, sleep well if you can!" No, I don't have pictures because I don't want to get within 1000 feet of this thing. read more

It's just darn creepy! I understand the concept, I get the whole Bronco thing. I do not like horror movies so the devil eyed big blue horse just isn't my thing. It gives me the same uneasy feeling as the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of OZ. The similarities are also odd.... House fell on the Witch causing her demise... Horse fell on the original artist causing his demise. Things that make you go Hrmmmm? read more

So I was all ready to Yelp my displeasure with the giant blue bronco. As I read through everyone's reviews it got my gears moving and I realized - Sandi D is right! OK, I can't in good conscious give something that creeps me out 5 stars, but I do concede that the piece gets people talking. Sure, maybe they are talking about how much they hate it - but they talk. Heck, I haven't been on a shuttle bus yet where SOMEONE doesn't say SOMETHING as soon as we pass the beast! I know I always crane my neck to see it. So that in itself says something - if you can get people to react that much to your piece - well heck you must be doing something right. Nobody said art had to be fluffy happy bunnies (or broncos in this case). It is memorable. It scares the crap out of me. The fact that it killed its creator is just the kind of thing that will make it a mythical immortal piece that will live on in infamy! read more

Naw, screw it. I like it. For crying out loud, it KILLED the guy who made it! Literally! (look it up...) Did I mention that it KILLED THE GUY WHO MADE IT! So it's a little creepy. Perhaps it is the last thing that might strike some fear into the hearts of the Denver Broncos opponents as they arrive - our record this season certainly won't. Meh! Oh well. Blue Mustang - My painting of Blucifer - Public Art Near Me - Denver, Colorado

The Devil went down to Denver Lookin' for a soul to breed He was in a bind cuz he was way behind And he was looking to spread his seed He came a cross a big blue bear Starin' into a buildingside A big blue bear just standin' there And crept up on her from behind He said, "Bet you didn't know But I've got love for you so bad And if you'll take me now I'll show you how I'm the best you've ever had. You look so good just standing there Your rump out to the street Let's make sweet love my turtle dove And rock it to the beat." The bear said, "My name's Bertha And it might be a sin But I'll take you, Devil, right here right now Cuz' I'm the best there's ever been." Bertha and the Devil started gettin' down so hard All Hell's broke loose in Denver and the Devil deals the cards Big Bertha Bear was havin' fun but lo she did not know She'd soon be pregnant with the Devil's souuuuul..... ***fiddle solo*** So there you have it. If the Devil impregnated the Big Blue Bear outside the Convention Center, their offspring might look something like the flame-eyed Demon Bronco at DIA. Yes, for the purposes of this review, a bear CAN give birth to a demon horse. Deal with it. Five stars for being totally absurd, ridiculous, and amusing (albeit lethal). read more

If nothing else I enjoy this horse because it elicits a response from every person that sees it. Art that gets people talking this much is a rarity in my circle so for that alone I have to say bravo. A few years ago I might have given the devil horse, as I affectionately call it, 1 star. But these days I find myself looking fondly at the horse as it welcomes me home to DIA. I mean, do you know any other airport that has such an iconic piece of art that it's garnered a separate Yelp page with so many reviews? I've flown a lot and can't think of one. Also, I want a miniature version of this thing so if anyone out there thinks they can make it send me a message. read more

I just had to write a review of an object that has spooked the hell out of me for years. For those who haven't flown into Denver International Airport, there is a giant blue demon horse statue with red eyes marking the entrance to this very suspicious airport. The history of this crazy ass (literally, I will get there soon) goes back years in the making. The artist was actually killed making this thing, it fell on him!! Years late on delivery of this agent of evil, Denver still decided that this thing would be welcoming to those who are about to fly in an aluminum tube! Not going to lie to you, but after many years this thing is growing on me (not literally)! I like the tie to the Denver Broncos (Greatest team ever, if you remove a few other teams of course) and the tie to the wild mustangs that once ran these plains. I would shit my pants if I saw a giant blue mustang running wild. Anyways, I think nothing says "Have a wonderful safe flight" like a 20 ft. tall Blue Horse with Glowing Red Eyes!! *Crazy Ass - the crazy ass was pointed out to me by an ass connoisseur. Refer to one of the pictures tagged to this loveable mustang. I may not know the common horse well, but I don't remember veins coming out its ass like this one has. No wonder his eyes are red. read more
