The fun of traveling for work certainly isn't the airport food choices (and if you ever fly into Kansas City International, you will truly understand that)....but I always look forward to trying out local fare, as recommended by coworkers each new place we fly to. Topeka was no different. Several of the hospital folks recommended Blue Moose and my little band of misfits opted to celebrate a coworker's birthday there that night. Ambiance is nice and cozy. Chill vibe. We perused the online menu before we went and got truly excited about several beef entrees that were "coffee-rubbed." Once we got there that night, however, we discovered they now had an entirely different menu. *whine* No coffee on a perfectly good piece of cow. *pout*gripe*whine some more* So we had to re-read a rather extensive menu and pick some new contenders. Started with some chicken wings to share (excellent) and my entree was Shrimp and Chicken Coconut Curry. The curry was richly flavored and very nicely composed. Other folks ordered the custom mac and cheese (also told to be divine) where you can add all sorts of toppings (fabulous idea). The beer/ale/cocktail offerings gave us lots to choose from, to marinate the birthday boy sufficiently that evening. We all agreed we'd go back if we made it back to Kansas, to try some more! But we're still griping about the coffee-rubbed steak!!! read more

Great place. Jacob was attentive as a server! Cauliflower wings are tasty! Nachos are huge! Love the Blue Moose! Ultimate Margarita is fantastic! Also, Whipped Cauliflower is great! Yes, recommended. read more

My husband ate here in 2014 and talked about how great the mac n cheese was. Being in town we decided to try it out together. Not sure what happened since then but it food was mediocre at best. I ordered the mac cheese bowl with grilled chicken and bacon. The cheese was gummed together and the chicken was not fresh grilled chicken. I'm guessing it was premade frozen microwave chicken...it was nasty whatever it was. For what this place charges i expect fresh grilled chicken! read more

I had lunch here with some clients and thought it was a nice, if unremarkable place for a meal. The décor and atmosphere is really nice - think rustic up-north sports bar but with upscale touches. They have a large patio which looks like a great place to enjoy some drinks when the weather is nicer. The menu is generally "all American favorites" like burgers, wraps, salads and some entrees. Most people should have no issues finding something they'll like. I originally went with the black bean burger and was told they were out "because the truck won't come until tomorrow" - so they're definitely from Sysco which is disappointing. My back up was the turkey burger and that definitely wasn't made in house either. It wasn't bad, just nothing special. I do appreciate that you can sub fries for a salad, fruit or coleslaw meaning you can be a little healthier. Our server was really nice and attentive with refilling drinks -always appreciated. Overall, nothing I'd be rushing back for but considering most of the other options in the area are chains, Blue Moose is probably your best bet. read more

Sunday brunch was AMAZING! The variety of foods offered ranged from French Toast to Fried Chicken and everything in between. The food was incredible. I went back 3 times in order to try everything that struck my fancy. And at no time did they run out of food, they did however have a hard time keeping up with the demand for plates! Guaranteed you won't leave hungry. My favorites were: French Toast, Sausage Links, Biscuits and Gravy, Custom Omlete, Mashed Potatoes, Fried Chicken, Spinach Artichoke Dip, Orange Muffins, Cheesecake Bites and the standout above all others favorite: Mac & Cheese. Saw lots of families and groups enjoying themselves. The only thing I wasn't head-over-heels for was my bloody mary, not bad, but nothing special. read more

The food is good but I feel it's pricey for the portion size you receive. The mashed potatoes are delicious and they make a great old fashion. Parking fills up quickly and sometimes you will have to drive around a bit to get a spot. read more

Update 2021: Unfortunately I no longer feel the same as I used to about BM. It has gone down hill the past two years, the menu hasn't changed in years, and the food is just MEHH now. This used to be a favorite spot of mine and now it's just disappointing. They truly need a change of management, change/add to the menu and DEFINITELY get new cocktails! They now only offer very select Happy Hour drinks and they continue to raise their prices while lowering the quality. read more

Great happy hour, shrimp wontons are delish! Bar is nice and outdoor seating is great!

I went here for my birthday and it was a great time. They spaced the tables enough to feel safe while dining inside. The service was great and our waitress was beyond sweet. I enjoyed spending my birthday there for dinner! Oh, and the martinis are delicious!! read more

It's always a treat to visit the Blue Moose, the food is good as well as the service :)

So we really didn't need a reservation. But they recommended one. The room was nicely decorated the service was adequate. The food was adequate. Nothing Stallard to write about. But also nothing bad. Although I will say for a $10 salad I expected it to be a little bit bigger. read more

After a day on the road, The Blue Moose was just what we were looking for! They have something on their menu for anyone ranging from steaks to specialty mac & cheese to nachos. My traveling buddy ordered the petite filet, but switched out all the sides (which they had no complaints about doing. The filet came out slightly undercooked, but my friend did send it back when given the option. I ordered the chicken nachos. They were delicious! They had a lot of "stuff" which is always a win. We were a bit sad that half of their taps were broken, so we ordered sangrias instead of beers. We were not disappointed when we tried the sangrias, though! Wow! I had the red wine sangria and my friend had the white. They were both delicious. The red was less sweet than the white, so you can keep that in mind when deciding which one to get (because you HAVE) to get one :) read more

Second time at Blue Moose and both times I was impressed. It's a good ranging menu with some off the mainstream choices yet no so crazy you can't grab simple comfort foods. Happy hour is not gimmicky, there are honest good deals on drinks. The sangria is great. The chicken nachos appetizer is plentiful, but boring. Dinner wise we both had mac and cheese- seriously was A+. I had mine with broccoli, asparagus, pork belly and truffle oil. Amazeballs. With all the chain restaurants in the area, it's nice to have an oasis of originality. read more

I can't say enough about my experience each and every time I've eaten there, lunch and dinner. Nice and quiet atmosphere, best service with great personalities of the staff, very nice decor and cleanliness which looks like a very high end restaurant without the high prices, my favorite place!! read more

Stopped by for lunch. The restaurant is laid out well and felt comfortable. There is an outside patio area. Service was good. No complaints here. Our group started with the fried pickles. They were fine, but were planks instead of chips, which I prefer. We also did not get enough dipping sauce for everyone. I had the shrimp and chicken curry dish, which I liked. The shrimp were plump, and the sauce was flavorful. One of my dining partners got a pizza, which she enjoyed. Overall, it was a nice dining experience. read more

The food was really good and well cooked but the bathroom smelled like DEATH. We were gagging.

So this was the second time we have had dinner here. First go round was quite pleasant. We came very early. Hardly anyone there so service was great. Food was great. I really like the ambience and stuff. This time we came with quite a large group. There were 12 of us. The service was fine. My biggest complaint was my food this time. The first time we came we had the onion ring appetizer and it was great. This time the onions they used or the outside portions so were inedible for the most part. The biggest thing about them was the breading. Although the breading is quite delicious, that's all you are getting. The onions are sliced, very thinly and the breading is five times as thick as the onion. We had a couple that were just balls of breading for $10 I would expect a little higher quality. I ordered the new chicken fried steak meal. I also requested the grilled zucchini instead of broccoli. The grilled zucchini came out with barely any grill marks on it and it's hard as a rock. It was practically raw and I couldn't even get my fork through it. The chicken fried steak was really delicious. It was pounded very thin so is more of a cutlet. The gravy is quite flavorful. The mashed potatoes were fresh not boxed so that was much appreciated. Bad part about the gravy is there was barely any on the potatoes or the chicken fried steak. so I asked the server for a little bit more. What she brought out was not even the same gravy. It was a salty, dark brown substance not even sure what meal that would've even went with. Needless to say, I just boxed it up and I'll doctor it up at home. I pretty disappointed. read more

Elana was a great server and the food is super good! We had appetizers and dinner and I can't say a bar thing about any of it. Elana keep up the good work! read more

I usually don't order a steak when I eat at the Blue Moose. However, the 8oz hickory smoked filet was cooked perfectly. The grilled zucchini did not suck either. The mash potatoes were a little cold but still tasty. MacKenzie gave excellent service very prompt and attentive. Overall the Blue Moose is in the top 5 restaurants in Topeka and tonight it did not disappoint. read more

Absolutely terrible place to eat. The food was terrible. My chicken was half cooked and the pasta was just disgusting. The manager did give us our entire meal for free but I do not recommend read more

This is my go-to restaurant. It's just around the corner from me. It's consistent and good. The service is outstanding, the food is great and the drinks are cold. It's upscale for Topeka, but not pretentious. I love their grilled chicken. It's incredible. The wood-fired grill makes everything better. Highly recommend. read more

Excellent lunch choice. I am anxious to go back. Great appetizers and entree not to mention the dessert and drinks. The service was also very good. A great restaurant for lunch or dinner. My new favorite. read more

Great place a group. Many choices on the menu. I especially like the Chef's salad. Great sandwiches.

The only reason I returned is a group of coworkers invited me out for lunch. The service was much improved over my previous visit, but the food quality is nothing short of institutional. The spinach artichoke dip was above average. The remaining appetizers failed to deliver. I chose the daily special - a classic burger with fries. The burger was cooked properly but was totally lacking in flavor. The fries were not warm, a common malady when eating with a large group. I can think of many other venues more worthy of my time and money. read more

Still my favorite. Now we go once a week. This time we had the beef empanadas as an appetizer. While there are only three, they are delicious and worth it, This time we had tacos... as it's taco Wednesday. Both enjoyed cocktails. The tacos were good. Corn tortillas. Good filling and sides. Still love it. Dakota is an amazing server. We have had her 2/3 times we have gone and she is just wonderful. read more

First time visit and last time. I brought my visiting guest to celebrate with brunch and was disappointed. Cold coffee right at the start and waited 20 minutes to get it replaced. Service is slow because servers are not stationed in one area but all over the place. The food has the potential to be great if attentions to detail were better. Keep buffet food hot not luke warm and do not refill pans with bare hands (chicken) Ewwww!! Those maintaining buffet looked miserable and unfriendly. Sad this is the best Topeka had to offer for Brunch:( read more

Had horrible serve tonight. Had a prime rib special. Obvious no back manager assuring every element was there. No salad dressing, no side dish, no Au Jus, horseradish sauce and no steak knife. Worse, when I spoke with the front end manager, an older lady, she didn't apologize, the waiter only apologized when giving the check for 60 dollars calling it came out "sloppy". read more

I think this location is going a little down hill. Stopped in for lunch recently and while the food was okay it definitely was not as great as the locations in the KC metro I've visited. We came at brunch and the buffet was WAY smaller than the prairie village location. We also had to ask the waitress for a menu and it was just overall an awkward visit. I'll for sure be back at some point since it's still a good dining option in Topeka, but it would be nice if it lived up to the quality of the other locations. read more

So I came here with a group of coworkers and we were all from out of town (none of us were from Kansas lol). I got the beef empanadas (also gluten free) as an appetizer and they were super delicious. Main course was the petite filet with mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. Dessert was creme brûlée. Overall, I would highly recommend coming here for some fancy affordable food (with many gluten free options). Ashley L. was our server and she was super patient with our group of 8 people that had many requests as to how to bill our stuff because we were on the work dime. read more

We really enjoyed our first time in here. I ordered Smoked Andouille & Chicken Pasta. It was delicious and not like anything I usually find at other places. We dined In fairly late. Foyer smelled like they had sewer problems. Sat in the bar and had to ask for our appetizer to ensure it arrived before the entree salads. Ahi tuna portion was pretty small. read more

I really enjoyed their food and thought they had a good menu. The artichoke soup was fabulous, as was the mashed cauliflower! The service was friendly and the atmosphere was nice, but still casual enough that I didn't feel too out of place in jeans and a t-shirt. I was disappointed that they were out of Mac and cheese, but we were there late in the evening on a Sunday night. Still... Over all this was a great place to eat and there were several the things on the menu I would like to try if I'm ever in Topeka again. A bit on the higher end of the prices for typical restaurants, but I thought it was worth it. read more

It was alright. Long wait for food in a barely filled restaurant. Fish was good but ordered a different side and was up charged when the they never delivered it. Didn't realize it til we looked at the bill more closely at home. The rest of the party had steaks and seemed to enjoy them. Our server was delightful though and that was why I rated 4 stars read more

Chicken Curry was excellent...good flavor but not too spicy. Keto Bowl with Salmon is my favorite although steak and chicken are options and also good. Chicken Nachos are always fun to share with our group but sad they are no longer on the Happy Hour Menu. read more

Went on Mother's Day and had a reservation for 1:30. Arrived at 1:10 and checked in. While I wait I hit up the bar for some bottomless mimosas. The bartender was friendly and had me pay at the bar and gave me a receipt to show my server. I'm drinking mimosas while waiting and I got a few under my belt before getting seated. The hostess did recommend that we go ask people to leave to hurry up our wait, which seems like the craziest suggestions a hostess could make, but clearly they were not prepared to deal with the numbers. After about an hour waiting and 45 minutes after our reservation we were seated. The waitress came over and began to do her thing. I asked for another mimosa and she went about her business. She brought drinks and no mimosa. I asked her about it and she said "did you pay for the mimosas already?" I said I had and I placed the ticket the bartender gave me under the glass for that reason. She said well that doesn't say closed so how do I know you payed for it. Not sure if she was joking or not I said I don't work here so I don't know how your tickets work, but the bartender gave me this, so I dunno. Her response "if I go ask the bartender if you payed for that he will say yes, right?!" I was shocked and honestly angry at that. Very unprofessional! The buffet was frequently missing items and no staff was interested in helping. I'd go for bottomless mimosas again, but not much else. read more

I'm being generous with the 3 because the food was good. The time in here started out rocky to say the least. It wasn't peak time, the place was pretty empty and we were seated. For about 20 minutes no one came to help us. A waitress did look at us constantly during the 20 minutes. Maybe expecting us to help ourselves. Finally we were helped and the rest of the meal went smoothly. read more
