Well server walked away after very short conversation before I had a chance to ask a second question, not to once, but twice. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer which was under cooked, chewy and breading was not crisp. Chicken Monterey salad dressing was spicy and Ahi tuna on the Ahi tuna salad was spicy as well. Total bill, one 6oz glass of Pinot Noir, two Stella Artois beers, calamari appetizer, one grilled chicken Monterey salad and one Ahi tuna salad. No desert....bill $78. With more than generous, poor service tip...$90. Since the remodel and menu changes, which are very limited and extremely overpriced prices, like they say on Shark Tank, "I'm out". In early May 2023 during later in the day, my mother and I had the pleasure to have a waiter by the name of Gage. Hands down he, the Head Chef and the hostess (a cross between Beyoncé & Jazmine Sullivan) should all be in a Michelin star restaurant. My boyfriend and I are pleased every time we visit. I'm usually not one to stray away from my norm but I've tried quite a few items at Blue Moose and I've never been really been disappointed. Our favorite menu items though, is the Braised Short Ribs. My boyfriend is pretty picking with his Old Fashions, but seems to enjoy the ones at Blue Moose second to Cyrus Hotels smokey Old Fashion. Our favorite appetizers are the wings (cooked a little longer) and the hummus. It's nice to have a classy restaurant in Topeka that is not a chain. Another Topeka restaurant with promise. The food is generally good but the staff is always awful! Numerous times several different waiters/waitresses had no idea to fill simple drink orders. Often they don't know what type of liquors the bar has and twice they had no idea what soda water was. The pre Covid breakfast buffet used to be sooo good, the post Covid breakfast was terrible. Let's be honest, y'all; there aren't many solid places to go in Topeka. So when someone told me this was the place to go, I was a bit skeptical but hopeful. Thankfully, the hopeful part played out. First and foremost, our bartender, Courtney, was superb. She probably is the reason we had such a good visit and decided to come back again while we were in town. She was friendly, conversational, and made some on point drinks. The food isn't as good as the drinks, but it's solid. The mac and cheese is my favorite, and the options to add in are endless and scrumptious. The happy hour is phenomenal. Martinis - and good ones at that - for $3.50?! Yes please. It's a good thing I had to leave. The space is welcoming, and the feel is as well. Not to mention, a few of the waiters are quite pleasing to the eye! Although I have eaten dinner here several times when I have visited family in the past, this time I went to Blue Moose twice for drinks. The folks are friendly (TBH - more than friendly. Literally awful. They forgot to put an item in our order and were not apologetic whatsoever. This is the response I got when I called from someone with no affect, "Yeah... We forgot to bring it out." I had to ASK for them to be apologetic given it was a $14 item before tax. The "hand-breaded chicken tenders" sound good, nope, literal burnt offerings - completely inedible. Fries were tasteless as was the mac and cheese and loaded baked potato. The 1 star is for the fried pickles, which didn't completely suck but weren't stellar either, and the coleslaw was good. Buffalo wrap was just ok. Lame. Won't be back. I didn't pay $80 for fried pickles and coleslaw. read more

My mom was hospitalized with food poisoning after eating takeout from Blue Moose. She said her steak tasted odd but thought it was just the seasoning so she ate it anyway. 4 hours later she became violently ill. We had been in Topeka visiting family and had to drive home the next day stopping every 30 minutes for her to throw up in truck stop bathrooms until we finally got her to the hospital in her hometown in Colorado. I wish I could have experienced this place the way many Topekans have claimed they experienced it. Experiencing places in Topeka the same way Topekans do is near impossible, though. On a particularly misguided day of naive enthusiasm I decided to come here with my girlfriend to see what all the fuss was about. If only the experience could live up to the delusional hype. Upon entering there was already an air of snoot on the individuals working there. I expected as much, I was dressed in my lounge wear but I scoff at the attitudes of the workers none the less. My girlfriend ordered a steak medium-rare, that came out well done. Luckily that was the only issue she had, and enjoyed the steak regardless. Myself, I believe I ordered the Mahi fish tacos. I wasn't particularly hungry and I don't expect much of Topekan establishments nor Kansas seafood in general; they still managed to disappoint. The Mahi was overcooked and cold upon reaching me. The rice had been cooked too long and would've been less salty if I threw it in the ocean before eating it. We notified our waiter, who was shaking in his boots (probably new), immediately. A manager, who had presented himself as the king of snoot, thankfully comped my meal and dropped the snooty act. Though he did come back to tell me the chef said the rice was fine, I still laugh about that. Perhaps next time I will come in with a trophy wife, my business casual wear, an alcohol problem, and an over-inflated ego and will be treated as a valued customer. Fat chance I return, ever, though; no sane person of good judgement and class would dine here. I still feel bad for that waiter, though. Shoutout to Bethany and Darci for helping me plan my Mom's birthday celebration in Kansas, especially since I was in Texas. I used YELP to reach out to Bethany who quickly connected me Darci to coordinate things! The room we reserved was perfectly set up in two rows and it included an extra table for my goodie bag/birthday table! I did not even have to pay to reserve the room, I just needed to make sure that our group made the minimum order total. My brother and I were so happy to present thIs surprise with my family and then my brother surprised us with inviting our cousins up to join us! Darci arranged for us to have a room large enough to accommodate @21 guests for 3 hours!!! It was so awesome! We were offered a pre-planned buffet setting or since we were a small enough group, we could order off the regular menu. I appreciated that because I didn't know everyone's dietary needs. I was even told that I was allowed to bring in a cake, as long as it was professionally made. And also they had beautiful dessert/cake options as well. All the entrees were delicious and portions were generous! The staff was attentive, friendly, and personable. Shoutout to Delani our server who was very patient, understanding, and organized with our big family meal. Issa was a radiant soul and even took our group picture for us! Good picture taking skills. He even had us do a funny face picture. It was a wonderful experience with lots of happy memories and pictures that will be in my family's hearts for a Lifetime :) read more

It's a good place to meet with friends in the bar and share the yummy nachos and have a cocktail. The adobo grilled chicken sandwich is delicious as is the Berry spring salad. This was a mix of good and bad. Our waitress was very sweet, but not very good. She was quite aloof, forgetting our wings twice. She also brought the wrong drinks. I had ordered iced tea, and she brought me soda, then forgot the tea on her next trip to the table. The salad I got was delicious! I added salmon, which was cooked nicely. My brother got what I call an adult happy meal, steak, mashed potatoes, and mac n cheese. The steak was the perfect amount of done, but it had very little flavor. The mac n cheese was awesome, the potatoes were pretty average. We never got the wings, so I can't speak on them, but we were honestly too full to have eaten them, anyway. The fun of traveling for work certainly isn't the airport food choices (and if you ever fly into Kansas City International, you will truly understand that)....but I always look forward to trying out local fare, as recommended by coworkers each new place we fly to. Topeka was no different. Several of the hospital folks recommended Blue Moose and my little band of misfits opted to celebrate a coworker's birthday there that night. Ambiance is nice and cozy. Chill vibe. We perused the online menu before we went and got truly excited about several beef entrees that were "coffee-rubbed." Once we got there that night, however, we discovered they now had an entirely different menu. *whine* No coffee on a perfectly good piece of cow. *pout*gripe*whine some more* So we had to re-read a rather extensive menu and pick some new contenders. Started with some chicken wings to share (excellent) and my entree was Shrimp and Chicken Coconut Curry. The curry was richly flavored and very nicely composed. Other folks ordered the custom mac and cheese (also told to be divine) where you can add all sorts of toppings (fabulous idea). The beer/ale/cocktail offerings gave us lots to choose from, to marinate the birthday boy sufficiently that evening. We all agreed we'd go back if we made it back to Kansas, to try some more! My husband ate here in 2014 and talked about how great the mac n cheese was. Being in town we decided to try it out together. Not sure what happened since then but it food was mediocre at best. I ordered the mac cheese bowl with grilled chicken and bacon. The cheese was gummed together and the chicken was not fresh grilled chicken. I'm guessing it was premade frozen microwave chicken...it was nasty whatever it was. For what this place charges i expect fresh grilled chicken! read more
