Service was slow. Kitchen was slow. I've visited 3 times over the last 8 months and had the same slow experience at all visits. They are consistent. read more

My husband and I had heard great things about the Blue Moose so we went to dinner there for our anniversary. The service was very slow and our waitress was on her smartphone far more than she was actually serving people. It wasn't too crowded but our wait was so long that we ended up having to exchange our purchased movie tickets for a later time. My steak was not cooked according to my order but I didn't have time to send it back. The iced tea was terrible and the entire almost 3 hours we were there we only got one refill. My husband's steak was cooked correctly but lacked flavor, a huge disappointment since we had been particularly looking forward to the local beef. I thought that it would be a romantic location but there were tvs everywhere and it was really loud, much more like a bar and grille than the restaurant I had thought it was supposed to be. All in all, we were disappointed in the Blue Moose, when our dissatisfaction was relayed to our waitress, because we didn't have time for them to fix the mistakes, there wasn't anything else that they could do. I didn't push it because I wanted to finish the rest of our night. We will not be returning, although there were dishes on the menu that I would like to try, I don't have the time to give. read more

We called to make reservations for Mother's Day brunch, but were told they only took reservations for parties of 10 or more. We had 8 people in our party. We showed up Sunday morning a little before opening time at 9am and joined the line of people that had already formed. When the doors opened, we were a few people back. When it was our turn to be seated, we said there were 8 in our party and we were told that we should have made reservations and that there was no room unless we wanted to sit outside. I said that we had called and were told that reservations were for 10 or more, and she said, "Well, we changed that yesterday and now you need them." We elected to sit outside instead of leaving. The weather was a little cool and we weren't dressed for outside weather, but we made the best of it. The food and service were great! The manager came around and asked how everything was, so my mother-in-law pulled him aside and explained what happened. We just wanted him to know it was a little frustrating that the "rules were changed in the middle of the game." The manager reacted appropriately and made a great gesture for us because of the inconvenience. Overall, what started off as a bad experience quickly turned good because of the food, service, and a great manager! read more

Visiting Topeka and looked for an interesting venue and menu for four.; great experience at the Blue Moose tonight. The setting is top quality, pleasing to the senses and good for conversation. The menu has good variety and creativity. All four of us ordered a different item and we all were satisfied. Fair prices and portions. Our server Ashtyn was awesome - friendly, energetic and attentive. We will come back next time in town read more

The menu had potential but the food was disappointing. Even worse was the service. Slow slow slow and waited over 30 minutes to pay at the end. read more

Best bar staff in Topeka. The bar ninja is the best. His Vegas style is a treat to watch. I hear he plays golf too? C'mon man, 5 stars. Great atmosphere. Try the Petite Filet. read more

Don't pick the patio or select the Blueberry lemon drop martini. Too many flies and outside wait staff that don't care. Not the greatest experience.... read more

Made this stop with family and won't be going again. Overpriced for mediocre food. Our server was really nice and accommodating.

This place has good food, they mismanage the wait staff, have been in there many nights and told over an hour wait with half the restaurant empty. Better management would help to cut those wait times. read more

We have been going to this place for several years. Tonight we had a large party of over twenty. They finally pushed tables together. We all set down, thirty minutes later, not one watress. Talked to the manager, he said it would be taken care of immediately, and that our table would get five free appetizers. It got worse, twenty minutes later, still no one showed up. Finally, a server did show up to inform us that they needed one of our tables and we would all have to scoot together. They took our table, seated four people, two waitresses immediately waited on them. The entire experience was like something from a horror movie. This resturaunt just lost 25 customers. read more

Enjoyable, close to home. A little pricy, but thats ok on occasion. After all, you get what you pay for. Service at times, especially if busy, is the reason for the lower stars. They really need to maintain, at least a certain, level of service for being a "high" end restaurant. If the parking lot is not packed, go on in and you will enjoy yourself. read more

Love the service, food and atmosphere. Happy hour is fantastic! The build your own mac and cheese is the best in town and the appetizers are all great. read more

Was there the weekend of the hot air balloon festival at lake Shawnee. The place was dead. We say outside and had the worst service ever. Our orders had been wrong and I was bummed. we always spend so much when we go, on drinks on food etc.. What happened to this place??? Why is it going downhill. There is also clearly a " no smoking " sign posted outside on the patio. Two people just started smoking, no one said anything. The food was food, even for being wrong. read more

Blue Moose is one of my favorite restaurants in Manhattan! The burgers and fish and chips are so good! I was pretty bummed to see that the Brie was taken off the menu though! read more

When you walk into this place you immediately smell the wood smoked grill. The whole place smells delicious. I'm usually not a steak person but it was the only thing I wanted after coming in. Wish the food was a little more seasoned but it was still good. Great environment, very nice but casual at the same time. Friendly and prompt staff. Found this place on yelp during a business trip and will be coming back. read more

This was my first encounter with the Blue Moose. Our first impression of the staff wasn't the best when walking in. The hostess typing away on her smartphone did not greet us right away instead a male server who happen to be standing at the front of the house made the greeting after we stood there for a few moments. The hostess looked embarrassed that she was caught doing something she wasn't supposed to be doing. After being seated it took awhile for our server to show up for our initial drink order, long enough intact that I was moments away from walking to the bar and ordering drinks myself. WHen our server finally showed up, my question about what was in a "MooseARita" seemed to stump her. "Its just a margarita but blue" was the response. After quizzing her on the ingredients I ordered one along with an Iced Tea. Now I don't know how a restaurant can screw up iced tea but the Blue Moose gave me something that tasted like a cross between dirty dish water and bag in the box tea. I ordered the "bone in" ribeye medium rare along with a baked potato and mashed cauliflower. The first steak delivered was cooked well done. My server had once again disappeared so I had to flag down a different server and ask if I could get a steak prepared medium rare, I don't mind a steak cooked wrong but when its costing me $30 I would like it prepared the way I ordered it. The second steak to come out to my table was a cross between medium and well done. Half of the steak was cooked medium and the other half was well done. I was going to swallow the bullet on this one and not send it back because my dinner companion was now done with her meal and was just sitting there waiting on me. This is when I was visited by the manager on duty. A very pleasant lady who was generally concerned about my experience at her restaurant. She offered to bring me another steak and apologized that they were experiencing a new cook in the kitchen and working out the kinks. The manager was very professional and the highlight of my experience. My suggestions to the owners of the Blue Moose: The hostess wasn't the only one captivated by her smart phone, but the bartenders (yeah BOTH), and a few servers. Give your female manager with the dark hair, employee of the month. Train your staff better. read more

Blue Moose - Great barkeeps Shane and Dalton. Thanks - American Near Me - Topeka, Kansas

Great new restaurant with very interesting new takes on dishes. When my boyfriend and I are wanting to eat at a classier place within the Topeka area, this is where we go. Also, you can't beat the specials that they have on Mimosas just about every Sunday morning. :) Last night one of our dishes wasn't cooked so well. We didn't say anything but just continued eating our salads instead. The managers are always coming around to ask if we are enjoying our meal (every time we go this happens, anyway) and surprisingly the manager working last night noticed that we hadn't touched our appetizer much. He asked if it was ok. We shrugged, not wanting to make a big deal of it. I knew it could be much better because I've made it at home multiple times. He took it upon himself to take the appetizer and have it remade. About ten minutes later he came back apologetically explaining that our appetizer wasn't ordered often and that the second try came out a little too done but they were working to make it perfect for us. He came through - our appetizer came with our meal but nevertheless it WAS perfect. I am impressed with his honesty and determination to make us walk out happy. He compensated for removing it from our tab and gave an extra discount. We were not expecting this at all and were very pleased with the service and the rest of our meal. We used to go on a regular basis, and had encountered a couple off nights. Then it progressed so that the service or quality was usually a risk we discussed before deciding to "give it another try." Once the food (chicken) was undercooked, another it was bland. Tonight the sides on my plate were not quite room temperature. read more

3.5-4 stars feels about right to me. Took the family here on the way home from our trip to SW Kansas. The service was great and the place was definitely not busy. We chose to sit outside in the covered seating area which was very nice. My son had the kids steak which he loved and my daughter had the kids burger which was a really good looking sandwich. Both kids were very happy with their meals. My wife had the crab cake sandwich which she raved about and said that she would definitely have again. I had the milk braised pork which was good but seemed overpriced to me at $15. We will try it again the next time we are in Topeka. read more

We've been to the Blue Moose a couple of times and the food has been great! Today we went for brunch and it was awesome! Great variety. There was an Omelette bar as well as French toast and eggs Benedict made to order! read more

Our group of 5 had about the worst experience in many years on Feb. 5th for dinner. The order took nearly an hour to be filled. We complained sever times and finally the food arrived. One order was wrong. Another order had the steak cooked not as ordered. Mt fish tacos fell apart in my hand. We asked the management what happened and they said things fell apart. They offered free desert and comped all the meals, the drinks including two bottles of wine. Go hungry vs. eating here. I would give review a zero but Yelp will not let me use no stars. read more

Had dinner the day before Thanksgiving ... lots to like about the menu, good salad selection, small plate and lower calorie selection. Decent craft beer selection though could use a few more on draught. Ordered petit filet, with mashed cauliflower and butternut squash succotash. Steak was cooked to temp and served with a balsamic Demi-glacé. Good dish. The customized cavatappi however was disappointing, and the shrimp supplement comes with four popcorn sized shrimp. Dessert was underwhelming as well. Raspberry cheesecake dad no raspberries on top and simply a berry coulis beneath. Chocolate cake was pedestrian. Overall good restaurant friendly service but be careful what you order and definitely skip dessert. read more

My husband & I drove up from the Ft. Riley area to do some shopping & was looking for some place to eat other than the normal chain restaurants. Look I don't like this place. I'd call it pretentious without purpose. Our waitress was at our elbow every second rushing so she could get off shift. My petit filet was a piece of chuck someone beat to death with a 2x4. To top it off they put on this disgusting brown syrup. The mashed potatoes were like library paste. The veggies are little cubes of ... What? Can someone explain why this place is in business? I'd wager you'd get better food at a third of the price. read more

Just moved to Topeka and I love this place!! It reminds me of LA(where we're from) with the ambiance and overall vibe. The only thing that kept me from giving this five stars was everything I've ever ordered was SO salty!!! Had a late lunch yesterday, and so glad we did! The Mac & Cheese is a MUST!! My husband had the crab cake sandwich and that was pretty good too. I was suggested this place by a local. It's a cool place, with good happy hour specials. There is a large patio to sit out on if the weather is nice. This is my favorite place for Sunday brunch in Topeka. They offer traditional breakfast foods, such as eggs, bacon and biscuits and gravy, and a few nontraditional items, such as breakfast pizza. They'll also make you French toast, eggs Benedict or an omelette to order. But the best part has to be the lunch food: Mac and cheese, artichoke dip with pitas, hummus and much more. It's a great place to go if you're ready to splurge a bit on your diet. read more

We are from out of state and went to the Blue Moose on Memorial Day. I have to agree with others and say the service was not great. Food came out at all different times and drinks were slow. Some of the food was cold and was sent back for reheating No one at our table finished their food as it was overcooked and just not worth the money they charge. To top it off, the manager on duty was a real jerk to us and very rude. Have traveled and lived in many places and have never been treated so rudely, Especially considering the amount we spent. We are in Topeka several times a year and will never return to this restaurant. read more
