Spent this last Saturday morning out on the lake with Jim and Anita of Blue Max Charters! We opted to leave at 7am and had to wait a bit for one of the bridges to lift to let us through on the way out to Lake Michigan. It was only a 5-10 min delay, but Jim & Anita tacked on an extra 30-45 minutes of fishing to make up for the delay! As a relatively inexperienced fisher, Jim was very informative and has a number of years of experience out on the lake. We caught a few large trout and some coho salmon! Was a ton of fun and Jim took care of all of the messy work and we left with some huge, delicious fish fillets! My wife and I had a great time fishing with Jim and Anita this past week. We did the weekday special which made them the least expensive full service charter by far. We've fished with bigger outfits in Sheboygan and this felt less rushed and more friendly. We really liked that Jim encourages you to watch the lines and grab the pole if there's a fish on. So you're not just watching him do everything. We caught four fish and had four others get away while reeling them in so good action. Keep in mind a 5 hour trip is only about 3.5 hours of fishing with travel time and setting up the poles but that is the same for every charter service. Definitely recommended. read more

So coming from California to go fishing there was a lot of things I was looking for. I called a few places around Milwaukee and one thing that lingered was no catch no pay. Something in California we don't hear very often because well sometimes you just get skunked and it sucks but happens. So I've been fishing for a good 15 years and always ocean fishing never fresh water, thought to myself let's go lake fishing and see what we get? Calling blue max charters, I spoke directly to Capt Jim and he always answered every time or at least would contact me back within 2 minutes. I was a little nervous because on his website and on the phone he doesn't accept credit card and I had to send him the deposit via mail. I haven't used mail or sent a check in 10 years but thought hey let's give it a try. My fiancé really wanted to be on a friendly boat as this was a different state and we didn't want to be on a boat she felt uncomfortable on with it being just 3 of us so we booked it. The day before we spoke with captain Jim and confirmed our trip and to come 20-15 minutes early to prep and get licenses. We got a little lost and ran 5 minutes late so we called captain Jim and he met us a a gate with his car and escorted us directly to his boat. (The night before my group of 3 were very nervous absolutely it the getting skunk idea and loosing our money) When we met capt Jim, saw the weather on the water and the condition of his boat and gear, all the worries went away. Captain Jim and his wife of almost 45 years were the nicest friendliest people we've encountered in Wisconsin so far on our trip and we're very professional. They new exactly where to go and we caught our limit 35 minutes before our time was up to go back to harbor. Caught all Coho Salmon and had a great time on the water. When we got back they cleaned and filleted our fish and we took pictures. Overall: -Boat was larger and clean, very well kept. -The gear was all set up and ready to go -Parking was right next to their slip had to walk maybe 15ft -Maxed out in fish and knew it as soon as we got on the boat it was gonna happen. -Was very knowledgeable and informative - Both Captain Jim and his Wife were super friendly and professional. I had a great time and would definitely recommend this boat to anyone trying fishing in Michigan. read more

Went out with captain Jim and his wife Anita last week and had a great time. I really have no complaints since we got to bring whatever we wanted to eat and drink and we caught a bunch of awesome tasting salmon. The excursion was really easy, just meet at Rock Bottom at 6:45, board up, get a fishing license, pay a fee, and you're off. All the real work of baiting the fish is done by Jim, and he'll show you how to do it if you're interested. When a fish hits a line, somebody reels it in, and Jim takes care of it, even cleans the fish for you on the way back in. I wasn't allowed to jump off the boat on the way back, but oh well. It's all about the fish anyway... And the beer. read more

All I can say is that our excursion started out pleasant and then as soon as a fish was caught everything went uncomfortable from there. Jim started yelling at everyone to get out of the way but there was no where to go. We had 6 of us for this trip. I guess we could have went down by the bathroom. At the beginning of the trip he said that if a fish is on the line he brings the rest of the lines in. He had stated that we all would be helping to do that but when the time came he just yelled like we were idiots for trying to help him. Then one of the lines broke due to the fish and we had to circle back to get the floating thing, that was interesting. He just yelled at his wife like she was a stupid idiot. It was sooooo uncomfortable. He talked to her like a piece of crap the rest of the trip. We even made comments to both him and his wife about his yelling and my dad told him to stop talking to his wife Anita like he was. He even yelled at me like I was a stupid idiot and when I talked back to him he yell at me again. I just told him I was not his wife or his child, I paid for this and I will not be talked to that way. He just turned around and didn't speak to me the rest of the trip. All I'm saying is if you want to see a man acting like a total idiot and treating women like they are stupid then this is the boat for you. But if you actually respect yourself and women I would choose another charter. This was just uncomfortable and frustrating and all of us from our group are sure he beats his wife. read more
