The Round House - One of the cubby-style beds at the Roundhouse

The Round House

The Round House is honestly an experience more than a lodging. You don't just get a bed and meal,…read morebut a truly remarkable stay in an amazingly unique home. Rebekka is a wonderful host, she went out of her way to make sure that everyone's dietary concerns were taken into account, including making several versions of each dish so we were all accommodated. All the food was locally sourced and came with a lovely explanation of why she chose it and whose farm it came from. She entertained us with stories of her family and the house's history and by the time I left, I felt like I'd met a friend, not just a host. The house itself isn't built to rigid specs, it's a creation of love and the uneven floorboards and quirky cubbyholes are part of its charm. I ended up with an amazing bed tucked into a wall with light curtains surrounding it, and in the mornings I was able to step out onto the deck and watch the sun rise over the beautiful Colrain countryside. I noticed none of the health hazards that Macky B. mentioned, and struggle to comprehend how Bekki could be considered rude by any stretch of the imagination; her experience seems very opposed to my own, and that of my coworkers. This honestly was the best place we could have chosen as a retreat for our nonprofit, a place for us to not only relax and bond with one another, but to brainstorm and cultivate creativity. Bekki was encouraging and nurturing and I'm almost certainly going back to hold my wedding there after completely falling in love with the place.

Ms. Rebekka Tippens, owner of the Round House, which she also calls "The Center for Cultural…read moreEvolution", or "Bekki's House", gets 1 star instead of the symbolic 0 stars since the building looks quite unique, w/its curved architecture. Unfortunately, the building is hazardous, and is unprofessionally run. We were sure to get video footage of problem areas of the house before leaving, to back claims (re: hazards) made below. My sister was responsible for booking everyone's room & board (20+ people), for friends and family. We were attending my niece's college graduation celebration. Since every everything in the area was booked that week (many area schools also having graduations), it was impractical for everyone to switch lodging mid-stay. Safety hazards 4th Floor cupola (where Ms. Tippens knowingly assigned children to sleep): Large hole in the center of room (large enough for a child or adult to fall through). Entire floor surrounded by large glass windows, with printed warnings on several to never open those windows. The bedding areas there are just cramped, slanted, crawl spaces. Upper floors: A weak, shaky railing on a balcony (over one room). Some small, wall-to-wall bunk beds, which contain very low ceilings. Ms. Tippens assigned several to older adults. If there were to be a fire again - Ms. Tippens told us all there had been a fire in the house already (and there's evidence of that) - it could easily result in tragedy. Bedding problems Multiple bunks were assigned to guests, regardless of age or height, plus several beds don't fit adults over about 6 feet. (Also problematic in the event of a fire.) Attitude Problems My husband was bitten by a deer tick while on a couch (urgent care clinic identified the bug). My sister asked Ms. Tippens if she had a bug problem. Ms. Tippens's response was to accuse my sister of scheming to take legal action against her. Ms. Tippens made rude comments to several guests (including to my sister, my husband and I, and others), throughout the visit. It was only when addressing everyone at once that Ms. Tippens seemed hospitable. The food (some seemed canned at times), was touch-and-go, though Ms. Tippens claimed it was all fresh. The one bright spot was that we all got to spend time with family and friends we hadn't seen in ages as we celebrated our niece's graduation from college. ... I would never recommend the Cultural Center for Evolution to anyone, for any reason.

So nice & sweet and will answer any questions you have for ideas and great recommendations! There's a hiking path in her back yard that brings you to a beautiful lake and mountains to hike. In the morning she makes a beautiful breakfast and as a mom with a toddler it feels good to be doted on. She makes you feel so important and there's so much love that goes into everything she does. I cannot wait to come here again with the whole family!

Okay, except for the natural beauty and peace surrounding you. Recommendations for local dining and sight-seeing were spot-on and breakfasts in the house were absolutely wonderful. Aside from visiting the artist workshops, galleries and attractions in nearby towns (went to see the Pioneer Valley Symphony one night and out for Blues & BBQ another,) exploring the attached walking trails with splendid beaver dam, a late-night soak in the outdoor hot tub under the starry November sky, driving the scenic roads into the Vermont, we also went on one spectacular autumn horseback ride. I'm a longtime rider and horse-lover while it was my boyfriend's first time on a horse. Mark listened and matched us perfectly with horses that are obviously very, very well cared for. My boyfriend had a mild-mannered, smooth Tennessee Walker and I had a once-spoiled draft mix that needed only a little mindful, experienced attention to bring out his wonderful potential. The ride was wonderful for both of us. There are plenty of uptight, pretentious horse people and plenty of rough, careless horse people but Mark is far from either. I personally loved his thoughtful, gentle approach. It was such a relief. Oh, and the green field of horses in every shape and size was a horse-lovers (and photographers) dream. Just beautiful, I was in heaven. We were having such a good weekend at High Pocket that my boyfriend decided to call in for a day off from work so we could add a third night and went for one more ride in the morning before we left. That getaway remains one of the most memorable for me. Whenever I try to relax or meditate, my mind returns to our first day: the crisp autumn air, warming sun, the rustling sound and smell of decaying leaves, and the utter peace of the place. I'm not sure I've ever felt so perfectly content and unconsumed. High Pocket is good for down-to-earth, low maintenance guests in search of authentic, peaceful experiences enjoying the quiet beauty of your surroundings and soaking up a slower pace of life.

"A wonderful spontaneous weekend getaway"…read more My husband and I (a coupe in their 30s) having been wanting to visit Abbott's Glen Clothing-Optional Inn and Campground for quite sometime so the morning after a long planned house party at our first house we decided to treat ourselves to some much deserved rest and relaxation in VT. Amy was very kind about finding us a place to state at the inn and very upfront about it being next to the recreation area and across the road from reception. The service was outstanding all around from the cozy country room to clean showers and bathroom and amazing homemade meals. The gourmet pizzas had been amazing that we had while dining outside on the patio with other inn guest and breakfast in the morning had something for everyone. We love the person feel you get while there, you just do not feel like guest #1243 passing by the front desk. They offer cold drinks on the honor system and ice. There is so much to do and it's exactly as advertised if not better. The one thing I would enjoy is a list of suggestions for food/dining in a 30 Min. radius for those who do not know the area well during the times meals are not available. We can't wait to visit again :-) BTW Make sure to visit the river beach it's so relaxing. Every accommodation at Abbotts Glen is so unique, make sure to view all the details/photos on the Glen's website and feel free to ask questions.

In my opinion this is a 1 star hotel. The bed was horrible. I spent 20 years in the Military and I could not sleep on this bed. Owner said the mattress is 3 months old. Maybe they had for 3 month? It was so bad I could not sleep for more than a few hours. Owner is a liar and said he would not give us a refund. To make things worst we told the owner we would not stay another night because of the bed and he refused to give us a refund. My suggestion is WHAT EVER YOU DO stay some where else. I suggest maybe Shelburn Springs . Safe travels to all.

The location was perfect for my purposes. But more importantly, I loved how comfortable the place was and how thoughtfully it had been arranged, with a pleasant collection of antique furniture and decorations. I particularly enjoyed the common rooms (living room and dining room) and liked being able to spend time outside my room and meet people. A simple breakfast was easy: bread was available (and a toaster), along with butter and jam, and there were many choices for hot beverages. My bedroom was pretty and well-appointed, and the bed was very comfortable. I highly recommend the place and intend to stay there again when I next visit the area."
