The worst service I've had in 30 years of Greenwich dining. Despite being offered a table overlooking the street/outdoor dining area to escape the noise of the well-attended cocktail event, we consistently felt the pressure to hurry our order and finish our meal. At 6:00 pm, tables remained empty, yet the waiter repeatedly picked up plates with food on them, pressuring us to finish. At least twice, we had to say that we weren't yet finished with a dish. In an odd and uninvited move, the man taking our order placed his hand on my shoulder to reassure me that the fish was better than the scallops. The chef plates the food beautifully, but the dishes have no flavor. The 4 meatballs ($15), each smaller than a Munchkin, arrived without focaccia and shaved parmigiana, and the tomato sauce was too sweet. The Norwegian salmon ($32) and branzino ($34) lacked any remarkable flavor. Offered a varied dessert menu, we opted for decaf cappuccino, only to learn that they had no decaf. With two grocery stores within a mile and several specialty coffee shops on the Ave., certainly this oversight could have (and should have) been remedied. When we asked the waitress who brought our tea and hot water, she looked confused and said she could get decaf. Quickly by her side, our "hands-on" waiter explained that the coffee delivery didn't show up, and with two events that evening, they didn't have a chance to get any. When that sane waiter refilled the cups from a glass carafe, the water tasted like it had been in a metal water bottle for a week, unlike the first cup or the water served to us throughout dinner. The final uncomfortable moment came when the waiter asked, as we paid the bill, "What are your names, ladies?" Why did he want our names? To "ensure that on our next visit", we would "have everything we needed." I won't be back. Greenwich offers several delightful options for "upscale" Italian food, a few serving diners on the Ave for generations. Check them out and pass on this newest effort to fill the space at the bottom of the Ave. read more
