Blown is one of the few places open for blowouts on a Sunday which is why I have gone to them a few times but I've maybe only ever once been truly wowed by my hair here. Every other time it has just been okay, but last Sunday takes the cake. I had an event to go to and I had probably the worst blowout I've ever had (in general). The stylist herself was nice although a little rough with the brushes and washing. I had asked for just a basic blowout with some flips. In the salon it looked okay from the front (I wasn't shown the back). By the time I got home it was a frizzy mess, even my husband asked WTF happened. I looked in the mirror at the back and it was awful - some pieces had large curls, some were flipped, some just laid flat and there entire blowout was so frizzy. I called in a panic because my event was coming up and when I explained my situation to the (I believe) owner, she said in the most annoyed tone of voice "so you want to come back?" Um yeah? I paid ~$37 for the blowout and gave my stylist a $10 tip. She seemed so annoyed over the phone. I then realized I truly had no time to 1) drive all the way back there (kinda far from me) and find parking (difficult) 2) deal with the attitude of the manager. I then went down the block to Walgreens and bought a curling iron to try and fix it (didn't know what else to do), which was about $27. So over $60+ spent to have a bad blowout and feel rushed and stressed before my event. In this economy where people are struggling and these things are seen as a luxury, not a need, you would think management and staff would be understanding and try to be provide the best customer service and styling. I only gave it an additional star because again, my stylist was nice. I'll truly never come here again, especially with all these newer places opening up. read more

I would call this place the morgue, as there was not one single personality by any employee. I am pretty all the clients in there felt the same way. There was an eerie awkwardness in the whole salon. We were not greeted upon entering nor did anyone speak to us basically the entire time. We had scheduled a blow out and eye makeup application with lashes. I went first for make-up. I know I asked for natural but there's a difference between natural and non existent. I think I had one and a half pieces of glitter collectively on my eyes and my lashes looked like a flailing crusty caterpillar. My makeup application took less than 15 mins. She waved the brush once over my eyes, slapped on the budget lashes and I was done. Waiting for my friend to finish her blow out, they took someone else to get washed. I spoke up being that I was next in line. I got a snide comment to basically stay seated it wasn't my turn. Finally go sit down for my blow out and I couldn't wait to get out of there. The girl doing my hair looked pained to be having to be providing me with a service as if she was held hostage. She blew my hair straight and before she could move forward with the curls I stopped her saying it was fine let's leave it straight just because i HAD to run out of there. I had come in to get my hair blown out for my engagement party after reading a number of great reviews. They greeted me, offered me coffee and took me right away. They were unfortunately understaffed as a number of stylists had called out that morning and it was very busy. I had multiple stylists switch off throughout the course of my blow out. Each staff member was very sweet and made small talk while working; however, my blowout did not turn out great. My hair was flat within minutes of leaving and my curls did not hold at all (and I honestly never have trouble with my hair holding a curl). I decided to treat myself in order to save some time and avoid having to do my hair. Instead, I spent two hours there and another re-doing my hair prior to the party. Overall, I'd give the staff a 5-star rating, but from my experience, the blow out was unfortunately not worth the money and time I had spent. read more

This place is great in theory if you have time to waste waiting long after your appointment time. I had a 10am appointment for a blow out and didn't get into a chair until well after 10:30am. This was probably one of the worst and most uncomfortable experiences I've had at a salon. I am shocked at all the positive comments but I can attest that I did have the same experience as the other negative reviewer. I made an appointment here by accident. I was trying to make an appointment at the usual spot I go on forest Ave but the name was so similar I stumbled on this place and with good reviews my friend and I decided to try it. Mistake. We entered the salon and the girl just asked who wanted their make up done first. My friend got he make up done first. The girl Vanessa who was doing my hair didn't greet me and gestures to her chair it was super awkward because she literally didn't say a word to me until almost the end of the appointment. I literally though she had an issue with me until I realized it was the entire vibe of the salon. My friend who was getting her make up done was finished in 12 min and someone else was in the chair, I literally thought they had paused her make up application to do someone else, NOPE this girl just literally swiped some gold on her eyes and did false lashes so she literally paid $45 for her lashes. Someone else came in and was taken ahead of her to do their hair, she told the stylist that she was also getting her hair done, just do they knew and she was rudely told that she would have to wait. My hair by Vanessa came out nice, and the curls held it just generally felt like her and the rest of the staff didn't want to be there at all and that they didn't want to perform the service. My make up was about as horrible as my friends. I have zero make up experience hence why I opted to get my make up done for the event but my friend and I could have done our own makeup better drunk. They use cheap drugstore brand mascara and while Fatima used a fresh wand for me she double dipped this wand and I felt super uncomfortable to say anything as by the time I realized she was already on the second eye. Today I woke up and my entire eye is red and puffy with a red lump on it. I had the all about the eyes and she was going to literally send me out without even filling in my eye brows I shouldn't have even bothered with that I had to go home and fix my uneven brows. The lashes were badly put on, and there was a gap between my eyelid and the lashes. I literally just wanted to get out of there at that point cause the vibe was so bad and we felt so unwanted and uncomfortable there. My friend ended up telling Vanessa she just wanted straight hair so we could get out of there and Vanessa seemed relieved not to have to do any curls. If you don't mind suffering through a painfully uncomfortable service the blowout is good. Stay away from the make up it's a total waste of money. Your better off going to Sephora and have actual good product than paying $30 for a few swipes of eyeshadow and some drugstore mascara this would have been a total waste for us if we didn't have the lash application. read more

First of all let me start by saying I have incredibly thick curly hair that can be a nightmare to manage. I'm sure you curly girls know what I mean. I booked an appointment with Kortney for a root touch up, gloss and cut because my hair hadn't been trimmed since before the pandemic. I honestly didn't have much hope for the cut because most stylists just don't know how to cut curly hair. Well Kortney was great she listened to me, she looked at the picture I showed her and she knew how to cut my hair to give me the style I wanted. My root touch up and gloss are gorgeous and my hair looks shiny and beautiful but I can't believe she was able to give me the cut and style I wanted including bangs which can be a curly girl hit or miss . The salon itself is really pretty and the staff is super friendly. Right now thru the end of August they're running an essential worker discount off regular priced services and as a bank teller who had to work throughout the pandemic I'm considered essential so that was a really nice surprise when I was paying my bill. I mean what other salons are doing that? I'm definitely going back because they also offer the Brazilian straightening so I'm booking an appointment with Kortney for that next. Btw they're offering the Brazilian straightening at a discount thru the end of August so I can't wait to go back and get that done. Thank you Kortney! read more

I tried this place for a quick blowout after a friend of mine came here and her hair looked fabulous...well I wasn't so lucky. The shampoo was good and my hair was blow dried quickly. The downside is...it only looked good for one night! By the following day my hair started to frizz and curl even though it wasn't even hot/humid out and I wrap my hair at night. I had to re-iron my hair the following morning...not even a full 24 hours later. I don't understand the asian/Dominican salons which are half the price I can get a blowout to last 5-6 days. Anyway...if you have a curl type 3B or curlier and/or your hair is very thick I wouldn't suggest coming here unless you feel like redoing your hair yourself the next day. read more

I went to Blown recently to get my hair blown out with a little curl. Vanessa was annoyed from the moment I walk-in. She was rude, washed my hair in a hurry, practically told me my hair was crap and refused to curl my hair. I will never go or recommend this establishment to my worst enemy. read more

I've been to Blown at least 3 times and it's the same every time I go. Blown is very unprofessional and the people there are very rude. I went in there with my natural hair which is very very curly. I came with hair washed and I left conditioner in it so that it can be rinsed and ready to get a wash and set. But when I came in the women didn't even greet me to her chair and then she looked at my hair and like annoyed and told me "I don't work with this kind of hair". Which is classless and isn't this a hair salon you should be working with all hair this place is very racist and I will never go back. I used to get my hair done by Melanie but unfortunately she stopped working there. If you need your hair done and you are African American or really any other race this isn't the place to go they only work with caucasian hair.
