Came here excited for new change. My first color appointment was July 1st followed by a redo on the…read more8th. It's been 9 years since doing any coloring so my hair was virgin hair, the perfect type to work on. I went with master stylist Maya after doing my own research I thought she was the best person to go with. I had several photos, explained my concerns, dislikes and expectations. I can honestly say after two rounds of coloring I'm am so disappointed in the experience I received. My hair is completely damaged and looks like I did my own hair. Unfortunately I am left hiding under a hat, and out $500 US dollars in services.

0/5. Zero skills, zero professionalism and zero manners. If…read moreyou would like your hair badly done and to be treated extremely rudely, this salon if for you, otherwise stay well clear! The hairdresser didn't cover my roots properly, leaving plenty of dark patches and differing colours than the rest of my hair. When I made a complaint, it was apparently my fault and I had instructed the hairdresser to do my roots this way. The owner was incredibly rude and only offered to re-do my roots at my expense but frankly, my confidence in this salon by this point was such that I chose to go to another hairdresser rather than take any more risks. The job they did was so bad, that the new hairdresser actually thought I must have tried to dye my own hair a few months before! I don't normally write comments but I feel I must warn people so that they don't make the same mistake I did.

Studio 500 used to be my go-to local hair salon for a friendly, reliable service. They have four…read moreprice levels for blow-dries; one for short hair, one for medium length, one for long, one for extra long. When I realised this upon paying after my last visit, as I was being charged for the "long hair" price, I asked in what I thought was a polite tone how they classify the various lengths. I'm pretty sure I have what most people would consider short-ish hair - it sits right on my shoulders. Standing at the front counter, apparently my query was audible to the rest of the staff. Two senior stylists turned around immediately to state that the short hair price applied only to very short hair, "like a pixie cut" (as though I was demanding to be charged the short hair price, which I wasn't.) I didn't bother splitting hairs over what constituted "mid-length". Considering the difference in price being debated was only a few dollars, I just wanted to escape the hair police. I left, thinking, surely that amount of money is not worth arguing about with a repeat customer who's spent a small fortune at your business over the years. I now get blow-dries at a salon in Chatswood where hair length is more simply categorised into short and long options.

I have visited Studio 500 twice and each time my hairdresser was Katrina…read more I think she is excellent and one of the best hairdressers i have experienced and I have been to hairdressers all over the world. She listens to what the client wants and at the same time gives helpful advice. Some hairdressers are inclined to treat their clients as though they all have the same type of hair. Katrina understood what kind of hair I have and therefore could deal with it appropriately. I had many compliments about my hair after my last visit and was happy to answer the question as to which hairdresser I had visited and also to name Katrina as someone I would recommend. Jan Myers

I rarely cut my hair. Over the last few years I've also stopped dying it and started using organic…read moreshampoos. It has never felt healthier. Occasionally it needs a cut and because it is a rare event I cringe at the idea of having to pay hundreds to getting a mere few centimeters snipped off. Thankfully this annual chop my sister had visited a local salon using a Scoopon. On the way out they gave her a $50 gift voucher for next time she visited. Sister promptly gave it to me saying she wouldn't go back. Sister's experience was somewhat different to mine. Sister said the staff and ambiance was cold and uninviting. The colour and cut she got was good she just didn't feel that 'treat' feeling she gets usually from other hairdressers (said sister by the way gets her hair done every 6 weeks). I on the other hand quite enjoyed my experience. I walked off the street to hopefully book an appointment for that day and though they were busy Serena (head hair designer) worked around the schedule to fit me in with little more than a 10 minute wait. Not only that but she let me use the voucher and gave it back to me when I left. She also cut my hair which I was very happy with - I walked in looking like I'd not cut my hair in a year and walked out looking like it had never look rejected. The staff seemed friendly enough to me. There wasn't much chatter like most salons but I like laying back with my eyes closed whist the hair magicians do their wash, cut and blow magic. If you want to let go of the day, without feeling the need to natter Via Spiga is a good hairdressers to visit. The salon uses Jeval Hair Colour, Brocato Hair Car and Nak Hair Care. The good thing about these choices are the paraben free, sulphate free and plant based ingredients. Compared to a lot of salons that use chemical heavy dyes and shampoo at Via Spiga you know you get a hair bath that doesn't just leave your hair feeling soft and beautiful but also natural. Style Cut $75 Blow dry $55 Full colour $110 Half head of highlights $150 Hydrating treatment $35
