I called in to make an appointment and they told me to arrive at a certain time, still had to wait 30 minutes. I understand they were busy, I could've looked for another place instead of waiting. As I was sitting there waiting, I was observing the place and cleanliness. The sanitation of tools was questionable but I wanted to give them a chance and hope they were actually sanitizing them. The man that helped me was rushing through the pedicure and was very rough with handling my feet. He seemed distracted and was dropping some of his tools. This has been my go-to spot for a while now but I only recently started doing Gel-X . My first set was amazing, my second set had the pinky pop off less than 3 weeks in and my current set is 2 weeks old and has had both of the pinkies pop off plus my thumb was put on over my skin :( I went in when my first nail popped off to get it glued back on (had only been a week) and to be fair it was a little busy but they kept taking customers back and I waited about 30 minutes before I left to just do it myself at home (took less than 5 minutes) and last night my second one popped off. Explicit instructions ignored -- repeat injury to natural nails (possible state violations) I am writing this review to document a serious and repeated nail injury and to warn others -- especially clients with natural nails. For context, I have been getting my nails professionally done for over 20 years, across many salons and technicians, and I have never experienced this type of pain, damage, or injury to my natural nails until coming here. Before my service began, I clearly and explicitly told both the nail technician and the owner's daughter that I did NOT want my natural nails filed thin. Despite this instruction, the same nail technician proceeded to over-file my natural nails anyway. This is now the second time this exact technician has done this to me -- once about a month ago, and again during my most recent visit. Each time, my natural nail beds were filed down to the point of redness, thinning, and pain, indicating damage to live tissue, not cosmetic filing. The technician used an electric file directly on my natural nail plate instead of hand filing, which in my opinion appears to be a time-saving practice rather than a safe or appropriate technique for natural nails. Over-filing with an e-file on natural nails is widely known to cause nail bed trauma and injury. Under California Board of Barbering & Cosmetology regulations, licensees are required to: * Perform services without causing injury or harm to the client * Avoid unprofessional conduct, including practices that endanger client health or safety * Use tools and techniques appropriate to the service being performed Based on my experience, this conduct may constitute unprofessional conduct and unsafe practice. After my nails were visibly injured, I was still charged an additional $30 just to over file and take off the nail polish from previous visit nails here . When I calmly asked the owner's daughter if I was really being charged after being injured by their employee, she responded "yes, ma'am." I paid nearly $135 total, even though only my toes were done and my fingernails were left damaged and painful. I did not argue, yell, or cause a scene. I simply paid and left. However, I will not return. If you have real/natural nails and care about nail health, I strongly recommend being cautious or choosing another salon. They need to pay attention to details, the artistry and passion for delivering beautiful nails is lacking. I'm now left with my right hand and left hand with two different colors because the thickness of the paint is different on each hand, and the shape isn't nice on my left hand. The First Lady shaped my nails crooked toward the left, the some inconsistent and ugly, another lady had to fix. Even then, the Second Lady still left my nail with thin paint in some areas. I don't like my nails, especially in the sunlight. Now annoyed and don't want to drive back to waste more of my time to fix it. Also, when I was getting my nails done this random man walked and peed in the bushes, by my new car. Disgusting. A good day, turning bad, and I'm just trying to shake it off and stay positive. I just looked at my receipt, they charged me a 3% credit card processing fee without my knowledge, they need to be transparent and tell us that ahead of time- so we can grab cash to avoid that fee! Pros: parking is free in the lot, service was fast Cons: 1) I was given a very small color selection for a regular manicure. The back wall is filled with what seem to be gel polishes. I was not able to pick out a color in a bottle like at other salons. The color you could only see as painted on a fake nail. The salon seems to specialize in gel/fake nails, hence very tiny polish selection. 2) Language barriers: pedicurist started chopping already short nails, when I had to clarify that they were already short and that I needed them filed only. Pedicurist had to translate my request for nails to the manicurist. 3) Polish used was one of those very glue-y, thick polishes. Job on nails was sloppy - thickness in certain places, ridges, lumpy spots, uneven, left/right edges of nail not painted over. Basically this is a paint job I could have done at home! 4) Price does not fit quality. This was a $10 manicure job at best. 5) Vibe: compared to my go-to salon, there is too much chitter chatter. I grow out my nails pretty long so I like to protect them with a gel mani and the techs are always very receptive to what I want. I don't like my nails over filed or re-shaped and it's never a problem for them when I tell them this. I think I've had my nails done by most of the techs there and they all do a great job. The place itself is very clean and the staff is really nice. I usually go as a walk in and they take me in pretty quickly. Even when it's busy I only wait about 25 min, since the staff is very efficient and they also don't rush when they're working on you. I've stopped coming due to lack of customer service ( taking an hr long due to him getting up and going on his phone.. than my toe nail wasn't fully cured (gel pedi)). However the lady who did my nails wasn't as skilled and I didn't get a quality set. She did listen to what I wanted fix and fixed it with no problem but the set is a 2 star job. One hand is longer then the other and lumpy I had her fix the very noticeable ails but at some point of me continuously asking for fix I figured I was better off fixing them my self at home also asked for short coffin which she trimmed them but did not shape as coffin they are very squared and I did mention I wanted skinnier but she hit each side with a file once and continued what she was doing which made absolutely no difference in the nail shape I'm very pregnant right now and just didn't have the energy to keep directing her on how to do her job. Nice lady but definitely needs more practice if she's going to be charging 65 for a set. Anyways the lady who did my toes was awesome did a great job all around and took time to make them looks great. Ive been looking for a solid nail salon located near me, since I moved to LA just under a year ago. Ive tried several (4+) other locations and I'm glad to finally find a salon I want to return to. I wish I had a before and after for all of you - I bite (well, actually, I rip/tear) my nails whenever I'm stressed. I sometimes get my nails done to avoid that and since I am attending a wedding soon, I decided it was time to get my nails redone. Im so happy with the results! I showed my tech (I booked with Kristy online but not sure if thats who I actually ended up with) what I wanted online and she nailed it (pun intended) I was welcomed promptly and when they saw I was watching something on my phone, immediately gave me a stand so it was easier to watch. Took the extra care with me, knowing the short, haggard nails (and smaller nail beds) would hurt under some of the tools. She also explained her process when she changed it up (added a little acrylic to give it a better base before putting the extensions on). I've been to this location three to four times and unfortunately I will not be coming back. To start, I always get a regular pedicure and gel manicure which is $65 (price seems reasonable enough to me for LA). Despite the salon being in a run down area, the salon itself is very nice, clean and organized. They even have massage chairs when getting a pedicure. All of these things are great. However, I truly feel their issue lies in not listening or communicating well with customers. The second to last time I went, I had a manicure done by a male tech and he filed so low and hard into my skin it hurt for days. I told him to stop and kept going. So, when I scheduled for my next appt. I said please, I want a female tech. But for my pedicure they gave me a man and the same thing happened. I don't know what the hell he was doing but again he was hurting me and I audibly gasped at least twice to the point where other technicians were looking at each other. I told the man to stop and he didn't listen. He kept going back to the same nail and working on it more and more. I told him to stop at least three or four times. I don't even know if he spoke English but other techs seemed to be talking to him and relaying messages on my behalf. I told him NOT to cut my nails and just do a simply file because they were already short. So tell me why he got on the clippers and began to cut and hurt me. Then tried to have one of the other nail techs explain what he was doing, and I said "I know, but I said no, and I don't want that." I really hoped the mani would be better. I told them I wanted a female nail tech for my mani and they did give me one. I told her not to cut my cuticles and she did... and hurt me on two nails. After the first hand, I told her again, just push back the cuticles and do not cut. I thought she was going to stop but she started cutting cuticles on the next hand... Then when she put the alcohol (or maybe it was oil) on my fingers, it burned like crazy because it was an open wound. Then the gal next to me was mentioning her pinky was burning and sure enough I look over and she has been cut too by a different tech and it was very visible and red and I could see where the blood was drying. I'm sure this simply happens at salons but between my experiences and seeing this, I'm thinking they need to slow down and be way more gentle and mindful. Otherwise, the gel nails turned out fine. I do recall though, in the past the nails didn't last very long for myself or my friend, and I see this issue in another review or two. I'm really hoping they last at least a week. I can see the owner reads these reviews and kindly replies but unfortunately I don't think there is anything to remedy the situation. I tried giving this location multiple chances because it's so close to my house but it's just not working out. I have anxiety about coming back and the thought of getting cut and hurt again. I'm thrilled to have found Bloom nails right in my neighborhood. Since moving to LA 2 years ago, I had yet to find a place with reasonable prices and quality work. I love Bloom. I've been 3 times in the last 2 months. The first time I went, I just had a gel polish change. It was done flawlessly, and the technician (I believe her name was Karen) pointed out where the previous manicurist didn't do a thorough job. Loved her attention to detail. That polish lasted almost 4 weeks. I've never had gel last nearly that long. Jenni and Emily also do a beautiful job, they take pride in their work and were extra thoughtful about helping me find colors for my toes and fingers that were complementary. I walked in and they took me in within 15mins. I paid $70 plus $2.10 credit card fee for small size, gel acrylic French tip full set, which is reasonable. The nails looked nice but lacked a lot of details, for example, the nail tech left a lot of acrylic underneath my nails --one got stuck to my skin and made it separate from my nail and skin-- they do not clean the cuticle prior to doing the full set (most do a "dry" cleaning), and the nail polish is not filled in on the sides.
