This is not going to be an easy review to write. I have so many conflicting thoughts and…read morefeelings... reviewing a restaurant should never be this dramatic! Seriously though... speaking as someone who was a partner in two restaurants in NYC for 4 years, who does not claim to "know it all" but knows some tricks of the trade... I think they've got great potential and would like to share my thoughts with them. Saying they've "got potential" probably come across as smug, obnoxious, and ridiculous, especially because they've got like 4.6 stars here on Yelp! And that's mainly why I found myself here... Staying in Mansfield for the night, I looked up restaurants that were enroute to our hotel. Some of them had 3 or 3.5 stars and I said "no way." But 4.6 stars with as many reviews as The Farmer's Table has? Absolutely! The atmosphere is a little bit diner but cozy enough and has the farm as a theme. There are some cool design elements, like the steel ceiling, the tables... The bathroom was clean and well stocked, and that's a really good sign that the place is sanitary and organized. The waitress was really, really nice... and we loved that we were in this tiny little town and yet she had this really cool, funky image. Great fingernails! I'm jealous! A tip for her to make service even better... think about sequence of service. Think about the extras that the customer will want with the specific thing they ordered so that they won't have to bother you. If they order something with fries, definitely put ketchup on their table, and do it before the food is delivered. There were also a lot of empty tables with salt shakers, but it's had none. Some customers notice these little things and appreciate a server who anticipates their needs. On the other hand, maybe she was just really slammed busy before we got there. My wife and I waited like 2 minutes for her to take my order and she apologized profusely for having us wait so long for her. I was like, "am I in Manhattan or wut???" She was on point, generally easy to find when we needed her, she was never trying to hide from customers (a huge no-no) and very well-intentioned. Definitely a keeper. The food though... I was surprised we didn't like it very much being the reviews were so good. When I got the check to pay, I asked the server what their most beloved and popular dishes are. She said that ppl order a lot of the prime rib sandwich, and also the cat fish. Incidentally, I had ordered the prime rib sandwich, and my wife had the breaded cat fish. I was expecting a lot more meat on my sandwich, and the bun was just a regular burger bun, but it was ok. It came with 3 slices of pickle and cost $11.90. I was still hungry after that so I finished my wife's catfish 'cuz she gets full easily. I liked the catfish more, but neither of us thought it was anything special. What was special were the prices. The catfish included 2 sides, and it cost less than $14. Being from NYC, it was so refreshing to see pricing that reminded me of year 2000! A burger for $7.85 that's not Burger King? Incredible! But the cole slaw... ewww. I didn't hate it, but I kind of forced myself to eat it even though it had a strange flavor. The sweet potato fries were ok. Everything was basically O.K. I imagine that, if I lived there, I would go pretty regularly cuz it's probably the best thing the neighborhood has in a few square miles, and it's easier and more fun than cooking at home (if you're not a cook and you're busy at work). But I think that some improvement in the food could make the place more of a destination. And a destination could actually bring more business to the surrounding businesses! I can understand if the townspeople want very basic food there, but at least offer a few specials that are fancier, better ingredients, something that stands out and is memorable. I know I'm spoiled coming from NYC... a 4.6 star review in places like Manhattan are different than a 4.6 star review in a small town. But this place has some nice things about it. Take it all the way!

Her situational awareness and attention to detail are spot on. Her positive and upbeat attitude instills that back into the establishment and the people around her. With the closest city of any size, Williamsport, being over 50 miles away and a lack of chain stores and restaurants in the community, downtown Wellsboro seems frozen in time. Opened to the public in 2008 as a family-owned/operated restaurant and added their brewery in 2013, this establishment is worth checking out located just outside the downtown area where we came for a celebratory birthday. The Wellsboro House accommodated in a building that dates back to 1862. It was once known as "Hotel Roosevelt"--named after US President Theodore Roosevelt, who used to frequent the area. While the brewery started out inside the building as well, it quickly grew out of the space and now occupies the restored train station across the street. The reservation was easily done via Google Assistant. Upon entering through one of the two doors into a welcoming, casual, and comfortable vibe, my partner, his family, and I were greeted by the staff and got a table immediately as first-timers. Their 20-foot wooden bar is a highlight of the 3 dining rooms. Their menu is extensive with delicious appetizers, sandwiches, and salads for lunch. For starters, some of us ordered the poutine. As the main meal, we opted for Crispy Chicken Salad, Grilled Chicken Salad, Impossible Burger, Eggplant Parmesan Sandwich, Veggie South Philly Sandwich, and Turkducken Burger, aka "The Madden." The food was excellent, well seasoned, and the service was attentive. Our server was Ashley. The price was reasonable and the portions healthy. We definitely enjoyed our experience, which we can recommend.

As they say it's a red flag when u walk into a restaurant and there's too many seats and not enough asses to fill them. And then my fiance his chicken he said tasted sour, I hope he didn't get sick like I did right after I feel like throwing up just writing this. As my mother would probably say "this tastes trouble" but unfortunately my fiance is too introverted to say anything, thank fuck we didn't order any appetizers too, wouldn't want more food to go to waste in this establishment. Oh can I mention the bugs too? There were ants on our table, ants, they probably got worse and the bathrooms soap pump doesn't work so they had to put another whole bottle separately on the sink for people to use. And guess what.. the manager still charged us for the dish that tasted like nothing even tho I only tasted a small bit of it, for that, you can go fuck yourself. As for our server, hun, when a customer is trying to be nice and understanding u don't say "ok" dismissively multiple times, you need to learn how to be a good server and learn how to serve your customers.. and for that, yes I left that no tip on purpose. I tip very well usually but when a service is absolutely horrible like that and the manager just decides to be petty? You won't be getting anything from us at all. Save the time and effort, drive somewhere else.. this place will never be worth it, besides you'll be stuck at the entrance for about 5 mins or so before a server gives a shit about ya anyways.

We actually stopped up yesterday to check the place out, erroneously thinking this was a hotel with a small restaurant attached. (It's actually a restaurant with banquet facilities.) When we arrived, there were no people sitting inside, and we couldn't see the outside dining area, so we, again, erroneously, though they were closed. (Everyone was dining outside enjoying the view!) We asked about making a reservation for tonight at 7, and the hostess told us they should be able to accommodate us no matter what, but we made one just in case. Then earlier today we decided to try to eat dinner around 6 pm, and figured we would go up and take our chances an hour before our reservation. The restaurant was pretty full, but there were still some outside tables, and we were happy they could accommodate us. We had a great table overlooking the Chemung Valley. Friday nights there is live music, and our table was nicely situated to enjoy it. We ordered a glass of wine and a prosecco, the brussels sprouts and salmon cakes starters, a Caesar dinner salad, and I got a dessert. Our favorite was the brussels sprouts which were perfectly seared, and were dressed with bacon, onions and slices of parmesan. The salmon cakes were ok - they tasted fine but texture-wise they were very soft/mushy, and fell apart when we tried to move them to our small plates. The Caesar salad we had mixed reviews - I thought the light house-made dressing over fresh romain with slivers of parmesan was a great palate-cleansing final course, but my friend felt that the dressing did not taste like Caesar at all, and said she would not order it again. Despite the mixed reviews (sorry no picture) we ate the whole thing. For dessert, I still had room, so I got their 'summer dessert' of lemon meringue parfait - basically lemon curd over vanilla ice cream topped with toasted meringue. The curd and ice cream were exactly what I wanted, but the granulated sugar in the meringue was not fully dissolved, so the meringue was gritty and very very sweet. Still, I ate it all. Service was fantastic with a team of young ladies taking care of us. And, despite the restaurant being really busy, our food came out fairly quickly. A few additional notes - we were there roughly 2 hours, enjoying our meal and drinks, and in that time the temperature dropped about 10 degrees. We were ready for it with sweaters and scarves, but many outside diners were not. There are some big fire pits which they turned on just as it was getting dark - these were great and if we had more energy we might have stayed longer and enjoyed the ambiance. Also, reservations are definitely recommended if you want to sit outside. The place is quite large so there's lots of inside seating, but outside is pretty special. Finally, like other spots in Elmira, almost all the wines on their list are fingerlakes wines - there are a couple from outside of NY, but for such a nice place with nice food the limited wine choice was a bit disappointing. Still, giving this place a solid 4 stars because we really enjoyed the whole experience. We will definitely be back!
