Museum glass cut.
Grace S.

Dick Blick has long term staff (low turnover) that are artists themselves & treat their visitors, clients, shoppers with care & make sure we are taken care of. It's not as easy as it looks to get glass cut to fit thin frames & so the third time was the charm, on the spot (luckiky there was no line or heavy traffic at this 3:00 pm Monday moment). Thank you, it's as it should be & yet this level of talent is what makes good service even possible for our art community. Dick Blick, keep up the *good* work & keep your artful staff happy so we can stay in good hands!

It seems like I'm always looking to frame something and a few years ago a co-work of mine…read morerecommended this place. They did a really nice job helping me pick out a unique frame for the unique piece I had plus I didn't think it was too expensive when compared to other custom framing spots. Since a then, I have acquired some nice pieces of "real" art and chose to go elsewhere to have them framed (for no other reason than I thought this place couldn't handle it). I definitely ate my words. I really didn't like any other place I went to and I was extremely unsatisfied with the quality of work of the other places. So I went back to this Fast Frame. I guess all Fast Frames are all independently owned so I don't know what kind of experience you'd get if you went to a different one. This one on Lake Street in Calhoun Village is wonderful. The proprietor, Steve, is excellent. He's very non-pressuring but he gives you very good guidance and ideas when you're looking to frame something. Like I said earlier I've felt that Steve prices things very competitively and if you look online you can usually find a $40 off coupon. The framing is done very quickly (usually less than a week) and the quality is spectacular. I don't know why I ever thought to go anywhere else. I recommend this place to anyone that will listen and I will be back soon!

I asked them to fix the last piece that they had framed since it was crooked and they said the workshop could not do it. I suspect they did not WANT to do it. I have spent a lot of money there but now am going elsewhere to have my items framed as I do not need their aggravation. They made me feel like they did not need my business. You are much better off elsewhere for your precious framing.

Recently, a friend with a newly acquired print in need of framing asked me where I'd had a some…read morepaintings framed. I told him I'd gone to Calhoun Beach Framing. At the time they were near 50th and Penn in South Minneapolis. They've since moved to their current location on Lake Street. From the Web site, it appears that despite the relocation the business is under the same ownership/management. As such, I highly endorse their craftsmanship and expertise. In particular, I brought to them a couple of large oil paintings on raw canvas acquired at an open art fair. They had been rolled up and were a bit frayed around the edges. Despite the less than pristine condition, the works themselves were striking and needed just the right frames to make them really pop. I couldn't be happier with what they suggested and the work performed. In each case, the canvas was properly stretched and mounted with stunning results. The custom frames were not inexpensive. However, given that the paintings were purchased for a song and after framing were near-museum worthy I was more than pleased. I also brought in a few works that my son and daughter had made over the years in art classes. They were painted on medium quality art paper and were somewhat fragile. For each I chose simple metal frames with non-glare glass. I was very happy with the matting and mounting at comparatively modest expense. I was surprised to see that thus far CBF had received no Yelp reviews. I'm glad to be the first. I hope others with similarly favorable opinions will follow.
