The outside view of Blatch's BBQ.

Blatch's BBQ not only lives up to the hype it exceeds it. I got the platter that gives you a half pound of every smoked main and each side as well. The flavors are so smoky and rich. This is quality BBQ. The sides are excellent as well. My favorites were the mac n cheese, Cuban beans, and slaw. The rolls were also great to make sliders. I can't recommend this place enough. The chef is a master of his craft. I can't wait to go back.

As a vegetarian, I was overwhelmed with the goodness of all the BBQ delights I'm used to having to forgo- it's all Vegan. If you are a meat eater- don't let that stop you from trying this place out. My husband who lives for his carnivorous BBQ said that this was "the best BBQ [he's had] in Utah!" The owner is legendary for his kindness and for his passion. He really wants people to enjoy what he is offering. The amount of work he puts into this is obvious! The set up is charming too. It's someone home, and you go eat in the backyard. It combines a sense of community and deliciousness that is completely unique. On Wednesdays you get what he makes. One option- don't worry- you'll love it. Of Fridays there is a menu to choose from. It's only open those two days. So don't miss out.

Rarely am I able to go to a place and eat the menu in one go. This would be the first since they only do take-out. I ordered ahead since any meat order (not vegan) needs to be pre-ordered. We had 1/2 of jackfruit, tempeh burnt ends, seitan brisket, and Korean bbq strips. My vegetarian spouse loves everything. The burnt end was good but not a favorite. The other three, we will definitely go back for. For a place that specialized in vegan bbq, they do not disappoint with the food for all the carnivores. The brisket, pork belly, chicken, and slow cooked pork were all so juicy and flavorful. Truly truly some of the best bbq in SLC. The sides are also great. Very good complement to the bbq. Favorites of the sides are the Cuban beans and the slaw. The rolls are just necessary to mop up all the sauce. I also love all the hot sauce that you could sample at the location. All made in house also! Great place to satisfy our vegetarian/carnivore household.

Awww. Oh yeah! Summer is here! Praise God. Today, on Cinco de Mayo, we headed to Blatchs Backyard BBQ (blatchsbackyardbbq.com) up on I (eye) street in Salt Lake City. The map app took us there straight away. It's nestled in a comfy community.  You'll want to keep your eyes open for the sign that's up on the front of the home. The welcome sign on the front door read "come on in" so we did,  and with that, we entered into a truly magnificent environment filled with the smells of BBQ; and it's the real deal!  Trappings of BBQ were on display with BBQ sauce, frozen vacuum packed BBQ delights, breads of all kinds, and many other yummy items.   We ordered the Seitan Brisket,  Smoked Jack fruit,  Tempeh Burnt Ends, Korean BBQ Strips, and fresh baked dinner rolls. Yep! They make bread and rolls fresh on site. We took the BBQ home. Combined with vegan baked beans,  homemade vegan potato salad, and the dinner rolls, each was simply delicious.  If you've not been to Blatchs Backyard BBQ yet, come on down and try it out!  I'll see you there sometime!

I heard about this place in some Best of SLC newsletter aaaaand I'm trusting all recommendations for this source from now on. You go to the cutest house, meet the cutest couple whose love for providing epic vegan bbq is so apparent, it makes you want to quit your day job and go work for them. (I'll do anything, water your plants, wash your dishes, etc). I had to wait to try the bbq sand which and potato salad I chose because I was on a really bad first date whose nascar driving made me super sick, but wow, I woke up that next day and my bbq breakfast did NOT disappoint. Can't wait to go back (by myself this time) and try other things on their menu.

I thought the menu options looked great, then the customer service blew me away. So I ordered and the food did not disappoint! Overall extremely satisfied with everything about this spot.

    Wood fired sour dough

What a delight!! I purposefully stopped at Blatch's on a Friday while traveling the country solo, so that I could get my hands on some vegan BBQ. Everything was absolutely delicious! My favorites were definitely the wrap (with Mac n cheese ), the smoked brisket, and the tempeh burnt ends. I also had these orange and maybe peppermint confection filled chocolates that he was selling on behalf of another vendor that were amazing. I got there before the dinner rush, so I had some time to talk to blanch about my travels. He was very kind and welcoming and even invited me to hang out on the back patio. He topped it all off by bringing me a complimentary order of his wood fired sourdough that I ended up saving some of to eat with hummus later. All in all, a wonderful experience and can't wait to come back to town!

I'm soooo excited to review this company with you because I really enjoy SUPPORTING SMALL BUSINESS'S. and  the owner Christopher definitely deserves a shout out !  He has so much character, and he works so hard at providing all his customers with the best quality food and a great experience. He's located in the avenues downtown SLC. He has super FIRE BBQ   He also offers VEGAN and non vegan options which for BBQ is SO UNIQUE! They do pre-order, catering and takeout because  he feels BBQ should be shared with family and good friends in a backyard, their own home, or somewhere comfortable.  Which I agree . We took ours home and had a great night with family eating and watching scary movies . All the vegan items are in house crafted with items from his organic garden when it's in bloom. All his sauces are made from scratch and new ones are constantly rotating through. Anytime you can introduce plant base to barbecue it's a win . As far as the classic BBQ, everything is slow smoked and it tastes so moist, tender, & delicious. You can really taste all the delightful nuances of the cooking journey recorded in the meat itself. When you pair it with his homemade bomb sauces  ohhhhh it's good and don't get me started on the wood fire rolls oh my these are not your average rolls.  I'll just say that ! You have to try them, they are so good. We got : BBQ *  1/2 lb of pork belly burnt ends * 2 raspberry jalapeño chicken thighs, * a half rack of beef ribs And we had to try the VEGAN * Vegan Korean bbq strips * Vegan smoked and crispy wings with old bay buffalo and dilly ranch * 1 order of raspberry jalapeño tempeh burnt ends * 2 cups of Cuban style bbq black beans * 2 cups of purple citrus slaw *  a dozen wood fired rolls.

    Trifecta + Korean BBQ strips

Chris - we sampled the food "in prep for" our pool party tonight. We can't stop eating it. Ignore the barren corner of the tray. We bought the Trifecta and added the Korean strips. The rolls with crunchy topping - delicious. We haven't tried the beans or the coleslaw yet, so very excited to dig into those. The bbq is insanely yummy with the perfect balance of spicy, sweet, smoky. We'll see you again very soon!

Their chickpea bao buns with chipotle aioli blew me away. It was the perfect level of spicy and very filling without making me feel heavy. It seemed actually nutritious, so no need for the guilt after (that I saved for the cinnamon roll dessert I picked up at the same time). The price was also very affordable. I love how much variety is available here and that it's all vegan. I always feel spoiled for choice, I never know what to get because it all looks so good. There's a decent amount of seating inside. The ladies at the shop are always very friendly. This is an amazing spot for a sweet treat or a quick meal. One of my top vegan spots in Salt Lake.

Their burritos and fries are my go-to favorites. The burritos are just top-notch, but I have a soft spot for their fries -- it's kind of an inside joke for me. Whenever I go out to eat with people, they always say, "Well, I know what El is having," because I always get fries with my food. But theirs are surprisingly amazing. Fries are usually just "fine" or "good," but theirs? They're very good. The owner is incredibly kind, and their baked goods are fantastic -- especially the peanut butter brownie, which I can't recommend enough. Their soft serve is also really good, and I'm excited to try some of their candy next time. I even took a non-vegan friend there, and he really enjoyed the food. Beyond the food, the team is so nice, and they have a little vegan market with some really cool products. I bought about half a pound of vegan bacon from them, and now I'm making all kinds of breakfast sandwiches at home. If you're in the area, whether you're vegan or not, Sweet Hazel is a must-visit. And if you can't stop by in person, their partner company Break Free Candy ships their sweets, which is awesome. Seriously, if you order anything from the menu, make it the peanut butter brownie. It's life-changing -- and I say that as a huge brownie lover.

A Place That Fails on Every Level, Safety, Integrity, and Basic Care…read more I've eaten here multiple times and every visit left me, my friends and family feeling physically ill. Why? Because they use cheap low quality canola oil and it shows both on the palate and in the body. But the deeper issue isn't just what's in the food. It's what's rotting beneath the surface. A close friend of mine Brittney (17 and under age in this experience) reached out to the owner to explore a collaborative business opportunity. Instead of professionalism she was met with a shocking invitation to hot tub together. Completely inappropriate and wildly unprofessional. Even more disturbing are the longstanding sexual allegations against kitchen staff he's kept on for years. Employees are routinely fired often for things they didn't do while the owner claims surveillance cameras prove it. Yet those cameras never seem to catch actual wrongdoing. Convenient isn't it. Meanwhile he creates a culture of fear instability and dismissal. People are disposable. Boundaries are not respected whether in the kitchen or in conversation. This isn't just a bad dining experience. This is a pattern of neglect abuse of power and willful ignorance. I urge you support businesses that respect people, employees, customers and community. This is not one of them.

When I arrived, it seemed like the kitchen was understaffed. The person at the front was doing his best to take orders and cook at the same time, which I respect, but it did mean a long wait for food. Another table that ordered after me was served first, and when my food finally arrived, the biscuits were unfortunately very undercooked--pretty raw in the middle. I was starving, so I ate them anyway rather than wait even longer, but it was disappointing. The vegan cookie I got wasn't very good either--kind of dry and bland--but again, I ate it because I was really hungry. The biggest issue, though, was the group of five people loudly rehearsing a play at full volume right in the middle of the restaurant. I totally respect the arts and love that people are creating things--but the entire time, they were projecting their lines as loudly as possible. It was impossible to read or relax. I was quietly working on finalizing the publication of my novella, and even though I was doing something creative too, I managed to do it respectfully and silently from my seat. I really think a different venue--or at the very least, a lower volume--would have made a big difference for everyone else there. That said, I'd still be willing to give this place another shot. The food has a lot of potential, and I think with a little more structure and a quieter atmosphere, it could be a great spot.
