Technician came out on a weekend and determined that thermostat was the culprit. Said would be $500 for a new thermostat. I declined and got a thermostat (better than we previously had) from Home Depot for only $100 and replaced it myself (with no HVAC training) in about 15 minutes. I get paying overtime rates for labor over a weekend, which I was glad to pay for this visit. But I don't get a 500% markup on an item that can easily be purchased elsewhere. Manager said that the price was an "after hours" price. Again, makes sense for the labor, but totally disagree with jacking the parts price up also because of an "after hours" call. We have three separate systems that have some age on them, so will definitely be needing further service in the future. This could have been an opportunity to gain a long term customer for more extensive work in the future. Unfortunately we will not be calling them back in the future. read more
