Springfield, MA - I went in bracing for sad shrink-wrapped muffins and reheated paninis, so was completely surprised to find Smoked, a legit BBQ joint and food truck that's taken up residence in the quadrangle of the Springfield Museum as its on-site museum café. Smoked brings the real deal: ribs, brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken, mac & cheese, collard greens, and other Southern comfort food that's so not what I was expecting in the way of typical cafeteria fare. We ordered the Brazil sandwich (smoked Cuban), all hail Caesar salad with chicken, and a large fries. The food took its sweet time arriving but was worth the wait. The Cuban was delicious, as was the flavorful bbq chicken that topped the salad, although I wish I'd gotten dressing on the side as the salad was overdoused. Fries are the best kind of fries I like, with that extra crispy and blistered seasoned coating yet hot and pillowy on the inside. It's a homey operation and Chef Bruce B. Williams Jr. was out there personally manning the counter and kitchen. You don't have to be a museum visitor to eat there, but 5 stars for being a casual cafe with good eats I would actually leave the complex for, and am glad I didn't have to. read more

It's not the fanciest place, nor is it likely the best lunch you could get in Springfield, but it's cheap, convenient to the Springfield museum quadrangle (no need to move your car!), and good enough. The paninis have a good crust, and the staff is flexible enough to switch ingredients around as you like. You could go somewhere else for lunch after visiting the museums, but there's no real need to. read more

Thank you Blake House Cafe! With your location, I expected theme park style soak the tourist prices but nope, completely reasonable. The cafe is order at a counter and your food will be brought to your table. About $8 for wraps and man the $5 kids meal with a hot dog looked good. Highly recommend this cafe for a food stop when you're at Springfield Museum complex. read more

Stopped in while we were enjoying the museum and were happy to find delicious Mac and cheese with smoked meat- your choice of brisket, pulled pork or chicken, sandwiches, salads and hot dogs. Service was fantastic. Wish we lived closer. read more

Went here today. Surprisingly didn't love it. From the outside it looks like it could be a cute cafe with lots of history and personality. Inside, no so much. The setup was Wierd but the associates were not friendly. We ordered two paninis, a wrap and three drinks. Our total with tip was $40. The portion size was very small for the price and came with no sides. Food tasted fine but honestly, for what we got, it wasn't anything special. read more

We were visiting the Springfield Museums and wanted lunch; Blake House cafe was the obvious choice as it was right on campus. I had a garden salad with tuna salad added (and they were generous with the tuna) and my partner had a chipotle chicken wrap, which he loved (I liked my salad with tuna, but there's really only so much you can say about a salad sometimes). Everything was surprisingly fresh and while the four and five star reviews here may be overselling the cafe a bit, just know that you'll get some basic, not terrible for you food that is fresh and tastes good. That's a lot more than I can say about most museum cafes! read more

What a great little surprise the cafe was. Visiting the museums, and feeling rather puckish. As we don't know Springfield we thought we'll just eat here before hitting the road. $17 for lunch for two, consisting of two panini, two bags of a Sunchips, and two fountain drinks! And the panini were terrific! Turkey pesto panini had a generous amount of turkey, terrifically basil-y pesto on both sides of the bread, cheese and tomato and could not have been better. I didn't ask but the pesto tasted house made. The roast beef panini with cheese and horseradish sauce was equally as good, if a little less generous with the meat. We were very pleased with our lunch here, and recommend it highly! read more

$7 exact for a roast beef panini, drink, and chips! What a steal. They take credit card too. Small space to eat inside. Maybe 10 small tables. Looks like outdoor seating at some picnic tables when the weather is nice too. The folks were nice too. Let me add spinach to the panini with no fee, woop. Great, fresh, simple flavors. Besides paninis, they have wraps and very simple salads, as well as coffee, bagels, cookies and other pastries. I didn't try it but I was told their clam chowder and coffee was good! Don't need to go to the museums to enjoy this place. Love this new find for a quick and easy lunch. read more

Great place to eat lunch while at the museums. During the pandemic they have tables outside under the trees and under a tent. The food was nice. The chicken pesto panini was a special request and gets high reviews. read more
