My child went to Guildwood Village Montessori from mid 2016 to mid 2018. In the second year, these issues became numerous. Here is a rundown of my personal experience with GWMS: The school hires its teachers' assistants at an alarming rate. Some we never knew the names of. One girl was let go because a child had reported her pinching her and the girl's mother was gathering evidence to escalate the matter. She also took her child out immediately. The French teacher left in the first month and was never replaced - this last school year our children received no French lessons, although 'French' is advertised clearly on the school's front signage. The teachers and assistants have appeared to show little enthusiasm in most respects - there might have been two day trips and both had to be rescheduled due to lack of foresight - eg: bus supply and library schedules/openings had not been researched. Children walked to the library twice and both times it was closed. Yet another replacement assistant I caught handling my child at the wrist, lifting the child up angrily, and twice screaming at my child -in a display of overwrought emotion in the playground that was clearly not 'the Montessori method.' Although this occurred in front of other assistants, no one seemed to care because clearly they have not been trained to the standard we expect. I was also dismayed to hear that another 'helper' had been overheard taunting a child - calling them 'a baby.' An unfortunate aspect of my child's 'education' was the fact that some older boys with behavioural problems exhibited inappropriateness verbally and physically in the presence of and towards our young children, even though we had all been assured they would not mix with each other. 3 and 4 year-olds did mix with 8 and 9 year-old boys with issues that require a great amount of disciplined and unflagging observation, which I did not see happen, henceforth my small child brought home language and behavior that frankly shocked me. I expect this to a degree at any institution but this was extreme. Number 1 in any parent's book would be student safety - this has had to be parent led in every sense as the owners did not meet our expectations. The school did not have a door code in place to begin with - this was addressed by a parent and then implemented. During a school barbeque the gates were left open for ease of car traffic - I did not feel my child and another 3 year-old were at all safe - it was an easy escape on to the busy Old Kingston Road. We pay for vigilance, which is needed for young children who generally have no sense of danger. Furthermore I am sorry to say that my child has shown no evidence of learning anything this past year - mostly due, I suspect, to the growing exasperation of teachers (whom we felt very warmly towards by the way) and staff with the present ownership - and so my child is actually unlearning frustration and aggression that has impacted our family life to a surprising degree. Good point? We have, in our experience of one GVMS teacher, a great respect and gratitude for her unflagging love, sense of fairness, and care of our child in their first year.

Great for getting a head start in school. A bit of bullying here and there but the children just…read morelearn so much!
