That was such discouraging news after we were told they could care for him. The staff is unpleasant and appear to not enjoy their jobs. Most could barely say hello when passing in the hall. The administrator is passive aggressive. She will twist any concerns and make the family the bad guys. After several months of misery for our father and us we are so happy our father is no longer there. He was in rough shape due to their lack of care. His is thriving in his new facility. Tatnuck Park had a great reputation many years ago. Not so much now.

The admission process went well and the staff appeared to accommodate her needs well. Her condition deteriorated quickly and we were not made aware of how critical her state was until it was too late . She passed away before we had a chance to say Good-bye. There was a definite lack of communication about the seriousness of her condition. After her passing, we were due a refund for care services paid in advance. The amount of the refund was confirmed on 12/13/23 and, after multiple calls and almost daily emails requesting a status of the refund, our mother's estate has still not received the refund check. (This is as of 2/8/24.... almost 2 months since the amount had been agreed on.) Emails and voice messages requesting a status of the payment consistently went unanswered and infrequent responses often pointed at others within the organization rather than providing us with the information requested. We even emailed the CFO, asking for his help with getting someone within his organization to respond to our request, and never received a response. We found the staff at Bear Mountain lacking in communication as well as follow-through on administrative issues. Because of these issues, we would not recommend Bear Mountain Sudbury as a hospice care facility.

During that time I saw quite a view very concerning things. The bottom line is that many of the socalled caregivers there don't really care at all about the residents. They are there to collect a paycheck, period. So many times I would see "caregivers" at the nurses station chatting away while patients would call and call for help, and the chatters could even be bothered for a minute or two to attend to the patients calling for help. Several times I would go up to a nurse to ask for help for my mother and I was told, "That's not my job." and there would be no other nurses or aids in sight for a long time. The communication there between staff and caregivers is terrible -- I would try to convey important info about my mother to a caregiver, asking that he and she would please make sure that the other caregivers would be informed, and it never, ever happened. My mother was ignored completely for long periods as she declined. This is NOT a good place, it's awful -- do all you can to find better care for your loved one.

Don't walk but RUN away from this facility. My mother stayed in the Reflections section (Dementia…read moreunit). From the first week she moved in, they increased her monthly fee by thousands of dollars because she needed additional care. I would have agreed to it if they provided the care that they promised, but they did not. And once you are there, you are stuck paying the extra costs until you can get your loved one out. We had to hire private care to come in to care for our mother until we could find a better facility. Management does not care. We met with them several times, but nothing changed. My mother suffered many UTIs and a fall under their care, and several visits to the hospital. She was not like this when she first moved in. Neglect of general and hygiene care put her deeper and deeper into poor health. One example: My mother fell from her bed in the early morning. An aide came in and saw her on the floor. She looked at her but did not bend down to see if she was okay. The aide left and came back 15 minutes later with help. 15 minutes! I would not recommend this facility if your loved one needs assistance.

They are high pressure sales. Buy now or there won't be an apartment available. We have a long…read morewaiting list. If that's true, why are you constantly calling trying to get us to sign on the dotted line? Why not just go to the first name on this supposed waiting list? This facility did not even have my mom sign the contract even though she was perfectly capable of making her own decision to contract with a stay at home service just a week before and to sign the documents herself. Instead, they allowed her grandson to sign for her and to commit her to over a hundred thousand dollars a year. She didn't completely understand all of the extra fees. Almost nine thousand dollars a month for the most basic of care and you charge for phone and cable? You have extra fees for laundry to be done? She said, "They don't even provide toilet paper." When I asked how much it would be if my mom needed to be wheeled in a wheelchair to get to her meals etc., I didn't get a straight answer. It was, oh we'll reevaluate. We just can't say. They also charge $5,000 for you to even move in. When I asked what this was for, they said it's standard to charge for the nurse to sit with the resident and make a plan. Really? $5,000? The at-home service did that for free before she even signed their contract. Sounds like the sales person is getting a nice big commission.

My grandmother has lived here for 5+ years now and it's a great community for her. They have…read moresmaller apartments and larger ones so when she and my grandfather first moved in they started with a two bedroom and once he passed she only had to wait a few months to move into a smaller place. Everyone is very friendly and respectful. My only complaint is a few years ago they switched food providers for the Cafe and the food and service is a bit below average. Just like the government, there is no competition in this market so I understand why. I can't speak for the dining room as I hardly go there. Although rather expensive, I would recommend this place for a nursing home with attentive staff and people who truly care!
