Machines are very sharp and painful thought I was getting a tattoo for min, my fade was done right but half a**, took almost an hour I know and that was only for half a haircut good thing I didn't ask for a full. over all I payed $31 I get haircuts every week my hairline under my edgeup are uneven one sits lower than the other to much was trimmed now I gotta wait 2 weeks to regrow and get it fixed. After relying on a barber in Frisco, I was happy to finally find a black barbershop 3 minutes away from my home in Allen. I wasn't quite sure what to expect from the mixed bag of reviews on Yelp, but my experience (especially for a Saturday afternoon, two days before school starts) was stellar and worth sharing. I was greeted immediately upon entering by Jay, whose chair/shop is to your immediate right when you walk in. I told him it was my first time and I was unfamiliar with the set up (there are barbers all the way to the back of the building). When he found that I didn't have a barber in mind, he told me he'd work me in after the two young clients ahead. Cool! No worries. I was actually prepared to wait much longer, so that was music to my ears. There are multiple televisions, a soda machine and clean restrooms available. I'm unsure of any other amenities--what I saw was sufficient for an hour long visit in a barbershop. Of course you're going to be privy to barbershop banter about football, basketball, etc---but as the only woman sitting there, I didn't feel out of place or disrespected at any time. I cannot speak for every barber inside "Blades & Shears", but I can say Jay is warm, personable, professional, thorough and above all, has mad clipper/scissor game. He gave my son exactly what he asked for and a boy's cut is $12---which is shockingly reasonable. Needless to say, I've found a sweet spot in Allen. I will recommend, as well as return. read more

Great barbershop in the Dallas/Allen Tx area. I left Miami for a work trip and in the mist of everything didn't get a chance to get an haircut. Of course as I touched down in Dallas Tx I resorted to yelp ... Found a couple places and Blades was the best choice out the two. Conveniently located in a strip mall with other businesses. Great staff. Everyone was very nice. Clean spot and amid to Covid19 they observe all mandatory cleaning duties including wearing a mask and gloves. My barber name is Corky. I need to preface this review by says my that coming to a barber shop can be very intimidating for a women. There are very few females, if any in most of the shops. From the minute I walked in the door I felt at home. The shop is very well kept and all of the staff are friendly and accommodating. My nephew needed a last minute hair cut for homecoming. Took my son to see Jay H. HORRIBLE. He was done in less than 20 min. He didn't comb out the top to make it even, and pretty much only lined him up. My son usually gets a bald taper fade. The sides weren't tight at all. Was hoping this place would be great since it's so close to home but, I end up having to go back to Plano for a real haircut. These guys are amazing!! I have a super short pixie. After getting a horrible cut by someone who said she knew what she was doing, I didn't think I'd ever get it fixed, much less find someone I could trust going forward. I was nervous to call because I didn't know if they would cut women's hair. So I called last minute on a Saturday, even though I know better, and Reg agreed to help me out. Everybody was so friendly, the place was cool & relaxed. All I had to do was show him the pic of the cut I originally wanted and it's like he could read my mind. Not happy. After a year of hair growth, went in for a trim. My regular McKinney barber, out of town. By the time they were done butchering my hair, I left looking like i was straight out of bootcamp, cut by an over caffeinated farsighted barber. Very "nice" guys, but overhyped. The first chair was visibly "sleepy" (high). He also uncontrollably dropped the n bomb more times than the entire cast of Django -so not kid appropriate. Nothing against your ability to blaze, just keep it professional. Second chair - might have gotten my hair right if he stopped texting long enough to listen. You're in a predominantly white town and with very little local competition. You should represent our best face, not the mediocrity I saw. I support BLACK owned, but that does not mean I have to "settle". Black should be worn with pride. Very disappointed. Make the drive further north or further south. I was pleasantly surprised to find a black owned and operated barber shop in Allen, TX. They accept appointments Monday - Friday (yes Monday!) and walk-ins on Saturday. I'll admit it's kinda hard to get a same day appointment but that's because my barber (Brian) does not 'over-book' and I respect and appreciate that... never a long wait if any at all. Great experience for getting a haircut! Blades and Shears is black-owned and 100% positive. No loitering or people hanging outside of the shop. All haircuts are by appointment- except on Saturdays. When you walk in for your appointment, the chair is ready for you! Lots of TVs and magazines with something for you to enjoy. Great conversation and people who make you feel welcomed. The Barber in the first chair is rude. I asked to make a payment with my card, and he went on to tell me how much he dislikes cards, and how the cards are a rip off. I then took my only option which was cash, but when I asked for a receipt he was quite unprofessional. He refused to give a receipt, and said he never gives receipts. I explained the need to keep a track on spending, but he still refused. He was very argumentative, and behaved nothing like the owner. He needs some training on customer service, and maybe an audit by IRS. I've never been to any establishment who refused a receipt. Regarding the haircut, it was fair, but he didn't communicate with my son (age 11), and he acted irritated from the moment we asked for his services. I paid 20.00 for poor service. read more

This barber shop has two really outstanding barbers......Brian and Reggie! The atmosphere is pleasant and the guys are very friendly, polite, and professional. Brian use to cut my son's hair for years before we relocated to the northern Virginia area and (fortunately as a mother) I can attest that the setting is very appropriate and accepting of children. Although I don't consider myself to be a big sports fan, I really enjoyed listening and learning about the current topics of the world of sports! My son and I will be flying to the Dallas area for the 4th of July and I have already made his appointment with Brian.
