worst flat top of my life, I called they said yes we know how to do a flat top, it's crooked as hell, skinned me on one side left it crooked on the other side , he said " once I get used to your hair we will get there" !!! don't say you can cut it then tell me it will take a few cit's.... It's been about six months or so since my last visit. The female barber was working by herself and as usual she was taken a very unusual amount of time to cut hair. She would then stop what she was doing every time a dog walked past the sidewalk. She would come out with a treat for the dog and spend some time with the dog. It was then I looked up and saw the new price for a haircut: $30! I did a double take and then ran out of the place. This place is clearly stuck in time. I'm sure it was charming 20 years ago when McKinney had less people and life was much more at a slow pace. But there is no way this place is going to survive with slow service and $30 for a trim.....even with their loyal diehard senior citizen customer base. read more

Palace is an institution that needs a renovation. From the rude woman in the back to the guy who never leaves a chair, you'll feel like you're back in boot camp being forced to get cut up some someone who just wants to cut the next head in line. Luckily, Mike cut my hair and trimmed my beard. He did a good job and made me feel like he actually cared. Unless you're over the age of 65 and are just looking to have your hair cut for the sake of having it cut, try any one of the other 10+ barber shops in this town. I was excited when I found Palace, but more excited to leave and not have that lady stare at me for 45 minutes acting as if my money wasn't good enough because I'm not a senior citizen. She genuinely seemed worried that a younger crowd is going to move in and force her to cut good hair again. Palace has been my go-to barber since I came to McKinney in 2015. I have generally been pleased with whomever has cut my hair...until yesterday. I was one of the last customers to be served before they closed, so I opted not to wait for my usual barber, and instead took the first available, who must be new cause I'd never seen her before. She was an older lady whose chair was closest to the entrance. I showed her a picture of my last haircut to depict what I wanted, and she proceeded to use a number 2 trimmer to shave my entire head, save the top, which was not at all what I asked for. I hate to say it, but in all of my 59 years, this is the single worst haircut I have ever received, and I will be wearing a hat for the next two weeks until it grows in some. When I saw the end result, I said twice out loud, yep, that's really short, to which her reply was "Eh, in a couple of weeks you won't even be able to tell that you got it cut." I would have been better off letting my next-door neighbor cut my hair. read more

So happy that we have a traditional barber shop in McKinney. The Palace has been a barber shop since 1892 and has only had 5 owners. The current owner Linda is the nice lady in the back! My sons and I have been getting our hair cut here for more than a decade. I enjoy the fact that it opens early and sometimes you might find it open a bit earlier than posted! While waiting, you can usually find somebody interesting to chat with. You never know who you will run into there. read more

These guys give great haircuts. Only issue is they have one speed.... slow. Came in here and there was 1 person in front of me. Took over an hour before I was finally seen. This barbershop has an oldschool feel with a very wholesome vibe. Good customer service and affordable pricing. This establishment also hires new inexperienced barbers fresh out of barber school and let's them work on walk-ins with no guidence or supervision. I guess new barbers gotta learn somehow but I would think the barbers apprentice should be apprenticing and learning their craft beforehand. It's a far cry from being a classicly trained oldschool barbershop. I'm going to have to slop this jagged haircut down with hair product until it grows out and I can get it fixed in a couple months . Old school for sure. Best not to be in a big hurry when going in. The barbers are cool though and do good work. Better than the strip mall chains for sure. Old school barber shop. I went in for a fade because my other barber isn't always available. Connie cut my hair and did an exceptional job. They open @ 8 unlike some places that open @ 9 or 10. I love taking my son to the Barber Shop... Especially the good 'ole fashioned shops. We were puttering around the square and decided it was time for a hair cut. We popped into Palace and waited for a chair. The gentleman that cut his hair was super friendly and listened to what we wanted. My son has thick curly hair, and if not done right, wellll... he could look a lot like Ronald MacDonald... BUT - For $15 he got his hair cleaned up wonderfully. We'll definitely be back. read more

Been coming here since I moved to McKinney 8 years ago. Are they the cheapest cut around...no. But, hey, we're talking about your do here....get what you pay for. I myself, am bald, so it's my sons that get cut here. Bryan and Connie are superb, one of my kids is a difficult cut, and will wait a long time for either of these two. read more
