Hired by my HOA for snow removal from our private drives and sidewalks. Snow ended on Sunday evening. By Tuesday late afternoon they still hadn't come by. After a few calls, they finally showed up and plowed our private circle. they blocked in every driveway piling snow on the aprons and never touched driveways or sidewalks. ****updated**** They came back out to our HOA with several workers with shovels plus a bobcat. I don't know what our HOA contract states but the grass in our neighborhood in Fairfax was overgrown for weeks before it got mowed. After being snowed in during February, and left to fend for ourselves, I don't have much confidence in Blade Runners to get anything done. read more

They hire all these illegals because they pay them next to nothing that don't speak a word of English and when you try to communicate with them it's like trying to describe color to a blind man. Our community has been using Blade Runner for its landscaping services for any number of years, and we have gotten consistently high levels of service. Blade Runner determines when we need grass mowing, lawn seeding, fertilizing, etc. and does all of this under its annual contract. There are few, if any, add on's. Staff is always neatly dressed in uniform and BR uses modern, well maintained equipment. Staff does not start work until a set hour, to avoid disturbing late sleepers. In addition, when needed, I can readily contact our service manager. In short, I think Blade Runner does an excellent job for a reasonable rate. read more

This message is long overdue but I would like to extend my thanks to the hardworking men and women at Blade Runners and share my experience. As President of the Village at Gum Springs HOA I led the decision to switch to Blade Runners in 2018 and would do it again without question. At the beginning of any new relationship there will be misunderstandings and adjustments that need to be worked out. When we were unsure of something or had a concern our account manager, Karen, was prompt, professional and patient. Communicating with Karen was very easy and helped us to determine the types of services that would best serve our community. On more than one occasion she would come to the community and walk the grounds with the HOA Board. She would identify plant types that could prevent erosion/flooding, point out trees that were healthy or in need of assistance and offer suggestions on how to improve the overall aesthetics of our community. I could tell she genuinely cared about our community and the service her company provided. At the conclusion of our walkthroughs we received a breakdowns with several options of services and improvements that we could use to improve the worn down and drab areas in our community. The following year we decided to move forward and expand our services with Blade Runners and the result was more than we could have imagined. During the spring of 2019 our community won the "Southeast Fairfax Development Corporation" award for residential beauty! This was the first time our community received an award for anything and we owe it to the hard work from the Blade Runners team. Our community uses Bladerunners and they're just not effective. If it were up to me, they'd be fired today; can't believe we pay for this. The lawn mowers used to run their mowers into the AC units outside and literally break the legs/equipment. Took several times to rectify. Today, we had 8" of snow and their excuses for not plowing included Covid staffing, late notice of snow, and not anticipating as much snow as we got. The first is ridiculous - every business is operating in Covid environments. The notice of snow and amount of snow were both announced many days prior, everyone else in the DC metro area was aware. Not sure why there's so many excuses. Temperatures are going to drop tonight and stay freezing tomorrow, we have 8" unplowed streets. Thanks a lot for nothing. read more

Their crews don't know how to follow instructions. They over mulch beds killing plants and go onto properties they've been instructed to leave alone. They mulch trees improperly and it's not healthy for the trees. Our community uses them and I would agree with Lily H. If it were up to me they would be fired. I called and talk to a manager and he thought I was being unreasonable expecting the crew not to trespass on my property and it was too hard for them to remember to leave my property alone. They could easily mark it with a small flag as a reminder like I know other lawn care services do. read more

Blade Runners services our neighborhood and does an excellent job keeping our community beautiful, so we were excited to hire them to manage our front and back yards. The work was great! My only complaint is that they were not very clear about when they would perform the work. However, the work was flawless, making it easy to overlook the scheduling piece. Bladerunners, you do a good job for our HOA at Rhygate but please lower the blades. The common areas are overgrown and very messy after just one week. Please stop mowing when it is raining or having just rained, the grass gets pushed down and it is not mowed evenly. Blade Runners does flawless work for me and my family. At my condominium complex, they take excellent care of the grounds and always have our drives cleared out and walkways safe during snow events well before Arlington County clears the streets! My parents' basement used to have a huge water problem in their basement. Blade Runners did their magic with french drains and some regrading and they haven't had a problem since. My brother recently purchased a home and turned to Blade Runners for help. They completely transformed their yard at a very reasonable price. Highly recommend! And what a great name! read more

Hired them to remove four trees, elevate our tree line, and wood chip a portion of our backyard. We have dogs and due to them consistently peeing in the same spot, they killed off the grass in one area. Each time it would rain, it would turn into a muddy mess. The wood chips have significantly cut down on the amount of mud the dogs are tracking into the house. We were skeptical at first on how the wood chips would look but it turned out nicely. I have usually been pleased with the work provided by Blade Runners. The workers are always pleasant and polite even though they do get a little wild with the weed wackers every once in a while. They have the contract for our HOA and until this year I really have had no complaints. I was even asked to leave them a review last year on Facebook, which I gladly did. This year I signed up on February 24th and paid for a full maintenance package plus lawn weed and feed. Then today, March 11, I get an email asking me to pay an additional $425 for spring cleanup because of the amount of weeds and extra work required...well, there are no weeds as I keep up with that along with maintenance for my perennials. So I assumed they had me confused with another customer. But when I called I was assured that they were very aware of my location. When I asked about the "weeds" and extra work that was mentioned in the email I was told it was a "form letter" and that the extra charge was because someone had come out to review our location and said it would require 5 extra hours of work and not really because of any weeds. So my spring cleanup went from $220 to $645 with no real explanation. The implication is that we have just been getting a really good deal the other years. Well, guess that means it's time that we look around for another landscaping company. If this had been handled differently, it would have gone a long ways to keep us as a customer. I asked for a bid in February and if the amount for the services I requested needed to be increased, that would have been the time to discuss or make changes. Not three weeks later after I have paid and services are ready to start. And I still can't get over the increase for spring cleanup going from $220 to $645! Company tends to our entire neighborhood and does an excellent job - although they do spend A little more time in some section that others-I also hired them to do some individual work on my enclosed backyard and they do a terrific job and even did a little work on my front yard as well without being asked (added left over mulch to beds). My first post was deleted by the Blade Runners due to them reporting it did not have enough detail. I am re-posting with additional details. Our HOA chose them to cut the grass in our community. The first year, mulching was included. The employees while mulching damage several solar lights. I contacted the company an our HOA about what happened. The manager of company defensive and basically acted like they would never damage anything. What a load of baloney. Who in their right mind tell their boss that they broke something even though they did. In addition to this incident, their mowers went over some rocks. The rock flung from the mower and ended up hitting a neighbor's car causing it to make a small whole in the rear lights. I would not recommend this company, due to poor customer service and Sloppy work ethics. I hope they don't try to remove my post again. read more

Re-sculpting and mulching my flowers beds after a winter beat-down, creating color combinations of plants and flowers that complimented the hues of the bricks and shutters--I was proud to present such a lovely picture for my neighbors to enjoy. We also had to have a tree removed. The stump was ground down completely and professionally, the spot was re-sodded and voila! It was as if the tree had never been there. Competitive, reasonable pricing, courteous professionals who pay attention to what the customer desires--this is what I look for in a landscape maintenance company. Fun times trying to get your weeds pulled and treated. I first contacted Blade Runners in April to take care of the weeds on my property after having the winter blissfully deposits seeds and having spring rain ensure that Sherwood Forest would sprout up from the soil. Of course, it was bad for the dog since he would go and eat the weeds and get sick. So on Tuesday, April 28, I faxed in the forms that their receptionist, Tatiana, sent to me. After a couple of phone calls and emails during the week, I was told that their folks had already gone out to the property to survey what needed to be done and they would get back to me. Fast forward to the next week and a few overcast/sunny days in between. I ended up receiving an email from their guy, Peter, on Wednesday, May 6th asking me what the issue was since had a note on his desk to call me and didn't have recollection of what the issue was. So I sent him an email back explaining that it was to get the estimate for the spring clean up package ($100) and what it would cost for a weed treatment (no estimate provided). I got no reply. So finally, I call the office again on Friday, May 8th around lunch and told them that if I didn't get a call from Peter to explain what needed to be done by that afternoon, I would cancel the job. Of course, Tatiana said she would pass the message. No phone call. So after 3 hours, I finally got tired of it, went to Home Depot and got the mulch and a couple of hired hands to help me with the work. Of course, when I show up to the house, a guy shows up in a Blade Runners truck to start working on another property. As he approaches me, he tells me that he came out to perform the work - I told him it was too late since I didn't get the phone call back that I wanted and better luck next year when I need service. After trading a few more emails that afternoon with Tatiana, I found that there apparently was some miscommunication going on. The owner, Eric, called me and left a message informing me that they sent someone out after I called and told them I would cancel if no one went out (they told me someone would be there Saturday but that's beside the point) but then I refused the work. So to him, after getting the estimate and making a "good faith" effort to perform the work, they felt they were still owed something for the work. WRONG. I called him back today to explain to him what I said and he, of course, sided with him employees (what a good boss, right?). Well, here's a snippet of the conversations: Eric: (Irritated) I guess we'll just have to let this go. Me: Well, sorry. Maybe next time. Thanks. Goo--- Eric: *hangs up the phone* Well, Eric, congratulations, you just earned your first review and it was a one-star. Oh, and never mind the fact that you're our yard service for the common areas who leaves grass clippings in the gutters, on the side walks, and allows our grass to get up to six inches before cutting it. Yelpers, steer clear of these guys. I guess once you get to being an established service, you think that you can jerk your customers around and forget courtesies. I'll stick with our neighborhood kid who faithfully cuts my grass every Sunday for $50 a month. You @$$holes can just pound sand. read more

We had a huge tree (which I don't know the name of) in our backyard and it grows beyond the entire yard. I called Blade runners and they gave us a bid that was lower than three other companies I called. Their proposal look very professional, so is their work. They spent three days cutting the trees and make sure everything is safe and the tree look perfect after it is done. My wife and I are so happy with a cleaner and better looking tree! I saw there are other negative comments about the customer service but I didn't meet any problems by myself. I would 100% recommend these guys for any tree work. read more

Blade Runners seem to be a convenient commercial landscaping company but are very unresponsive and seem to have very poor customer service to community property management needs. I have been calling and emailing both Erick Stork ( President's and owner) and Mike (account manager) With questions regarding our contract and they have not called or emailed back. Many of our neighbors also complain that their workers seem very neglectful when it comes to ensuring that personal property like their vehicles are not damaged while ground maintenance is being done. Not sure if anybody else is having this issues but just know that Blade Runners is very unresponsive when it comes to customer service. I hope that after they receive this review they reach out to me and correct any deficiencies in their customer service relationship. read more

If there were an option for negative stars, this company deserves it. With extreme displeasure, I report that Blade "Butchers" has continued to hack away at my morning glory plants again this year. TWICE ALREADY THIS SUMMER! I've absolutely had it with them. Today, their crew came by to do the landscaping and once again, my once beautiful flowering vine which had climbed to the top of the light pole was destroyed. All the flowers cut off around the entire vine, now depleted of all blossoms, it sank to the bottom of the pole in a heap of worthless, unsightly, flowerless, disconnected vines. I repeat, this is no deer! I vouch my well-earned Yelp Elite status on it! The company's excuses about "sensitivity to residents' needs" is a crock of B.S. They did absolutely nothing to rectify this with me, only made outlandish excuses, and with it now having happened two years in a row to my flowers, I will be spreading the word about their disservice to everyone I know (Yes, and I mean everyone!) and resubmit my complaint to the HOA cluster. Last year, in addition to the owner's pathetic excuse about deer, his other excuse was that their crew had been confused about where the garden started and where the lawn surrounding it ended. This year, I not only put large rocks around the light pole but even a small wire gate around the edge of the bottom of the morning glory to shield it and make it blatantly obvious. Despite all of this, their crew must find it a funny joke to continue destroying this. Its quite obvious this is no weed but a flowering plant on my property. I can't emphasize enough how frustrating it is to come home each night and have to see the destruction caused by Blade Runners. Please do not use this company!! read more

I initially tried a local "boutique" gardening service, but found they promised a planting date that was unrealistic - continuing to slip as more business came in... By contrast, Blade Runners gave (and met) a more realistic planting date. Karen was excellent both in creating the type of front yard we wanted for our townhouse, as well as in providing advice on how to maintain it over the long term. This was our second experience with Blade Runners in the past year and we've been very satisfied both times. read more

In my opinion, this is a terrible and very irresponsible company. It was hired to clean up our community grounds and they do more than a TERRIBLE job!!! Their workers are stepping onto other home owners' properties, flower beds and lawns and have killed many of my plants, while all they had to do was to blow the leafs off the parking lot and streets. Every single time they come out here to clean up the parking lot & street, they blow all the dirt + leafs from the parking lot onto my lawn (to leave it there!) - They also blew off all my mulch off my flower beds (WHO does that??!). I will now have to replace all my mulch, hoping that it will stay where it's supposed to be! And who will compensate me for that? In ADDITION to that, they do not clean up after done blowing the dirt around. Instead they blow the dirt with the trash that has collected into the surrounding bushes, (plastic, cigarette butts and paper included). Luckily I have proof of that via video (which I made just a few days ago while they were screwing everything up out there). I've tried to talk to the workers already a few months back, I've called our NRP and they promised they would resolve the issue, but nothing has changed. I am so angry that I will call the police the next time they step onto my grounds. I will also report this company to our city, because they are blowing the dirt/leafs/plastic/paper into the bushes of our golf course here, and I'm sure that is considered as littering. I wish I could post the VIDEO, but if you would like to see it just write me a private message on here! This company hires people who don't seem to be trained at all and who did not understand a word when I tried to talk to them (about what they were doing wrong). I have had trees trimmed on at least 3 occasions, as well as spring mulching and fall cleanup, and feed & weed treatments. Never any issues and never any problems. Blade Runners did a great job of removing snow from my townhome community in Alexandria during the blizzard of 2016. As much as I wanted to stay inside, I had to get back to work. Since I was at home, I was able to see the trucks move through the streets at least once or twice a day. I know they had other customers and the crews were most likely exhausted.  Blade Runners communicated by email to let us know what the next steps were. It was an awful lot of snow, so my expectations were that they would be methodical in the removal. I shoveled my car out myself and truly understood what it took to get rid of a large amount of snow.  I heard from friends that their snow removal was slow and in some cases non-existent, but Blade Runners came through for our community. read more

Blade Runners service was all promotion about their sophisticated communication and magic ice-prep for snow removal, with precious little follow up. We never knew when they were going to show up and then, when they said they would, invariably they didn't--and radio silence. Our cluster contracted for snow removal and landscaping. They were unreliable and snow removal was very expensive. The grounds looked miserable...minimal trimming, very little cleanup of leaves and sticks when they mowed and little attention to detail. One time, they showed up when no one on the committee had been informed and trimmed all the lower branches from a tree that we'd protected from any trimming for decades. Nothing we could do except to express shock and request future communication, but that never happened. We actually had a small dead tree on our property which, despite the manager's even having taken photos, was never removed. We left it there throughout the contract as an "experiment" testing repeated non-service. Today, it was removed in 5 minutes by our happily returning contractor Genesis Landscapes--yaaay! The seasonal flowers were installed without any sense of design and totally boring no pop, compared to the neighboring cluster. The service was so bad and we were so disappointed that we got out of the contract after less than a year. Do not recommend. read more

We have been in our house about 10 years and as our trees matured they were causing big problems in our backyard. We kept putting off doing something because we liked our trees very much. We finally decided to have it taken care of last year. We had a few companies come by to give an estimate. We decided to go with Blade Runners because their design was the only one that allowed us to keep our trees. They truly listened to our wants and were very professional. One star is one more than this company and its owner Eric Storck deserves. I contacted this company because one of their employees was sexually harassing my girlfriend. The employee, Francisco, stopped working when he saw my girlfriend in our backyard. For the next 30 seconds or more he stared directly at her from about 15 feet away without moving or averting his gaze. Since she had her back to him, I eventually noticed and asked if I could help him. He did not respond and continued to stare. Eventually he meandered away. I left a message with the company. The next day the owner Eric Storck called me back (although he claimed to be an accounts manager named Thomas... even though his voice was the same voice on their website and voicemail system). He said he would talk to the crew (I don't know why an accounts manager would do that) but that he couldn't fire him (also not the decision of an accounts manager). I tried to tell him he could do whatever he wants but that he would be responsible for this employee's future misdeeds. Unfortunately, he hung up on me before I could finish. I then left him a message informing him that I knew he was indeed the president of Blade Runners and that he was a liar and a coward. Twenty minutes later Eric Storck called back this time properly identifying himself. He claimed he didn't know who I was and was just returning my most recent message. I asked him, "Are you really going to play this game?" Eric suddenly guessed who I was and began cursing and asked, "Who the f*** do you think you are?" "I'm the guy who's trying to save you from a sexual harassment lawsuit." I calmly replied. "F*** You! Go for it, you F***ing P***y!" he slobbered into his phone before hanging up once again.
