Well this is only my second bad review of a Pub or
restaurant but damn this place is bad. We had popped over to the island for the second time this
year to get away from the rat race which is London!
& had a great break. We did nothing but eat & drink out & chill
& we had some great pub meals. We were in a pub in Cowes
talking to some very friendly locals who recommended the Blacksmiths Arms for
their food so we tracked it down one day for lunch.I now wish we had not bothered! On arrival about 1ish we were not sure if they were even
open as there were no customers there but we tried the door & they were
(that should of give us a clue eh?) anyway the two young ladies behind the bar
were very friendly once they had finished their conversation with each other
& we eventually ordered drinks & a light lunch.I ordered a prawn sandwich & my wife a chicken fillet
burger, this took over 35 minutes but as the menu gave the impression that this
was good quality food we understood. When lunch arrived though we were amazed my sandwich was a
thick chunk of passed its best bread with prawns in an excessive watery attempt
of Marie Rose sauce on top. This was so wet the bread had turned to slop, this
was accompanied by a sprinkle of very bitter unwashed salad. My Wife's chicken
fillet burger was what appeared to be a Tesco's value chicken burger in a
rather dry old bun. I doubt our dog would have enjoyed this. Anyway to top it
all off when we went to pay the young lady enquired & I quote was
everything alright with your meals & me not ever wishing to miss an
opportunity replied no actually they were awful! That was end of conversation she was no
longer interested. Going back to the very friendly Locals in Cowes
I guess they did not like us after all because this is the worst pub & pub
food on the planet. There are some great pubs on the I O W all at different
levels from almost fine dining to cheap & cheerful & there is a niche
for all, this however is neither cheap or even nearly cheerful & I can't
understand how they are still in business!!!!!We will be back but never to the Blacksmiths ArmsOn a positive note as I like to give a balanced review nice
views however looking at a field whilst
waiting 35 minutes for awful food quickly loses its appeal read more
