I had a terrible experience at this shop on MLK Street. My usual tire shop, NTB in Havelock, was out of stock in my tire size and couldn't help me before the holiday, so I stopped here on a whim, hoping for a quick solution. Brad assured me they had comparable tires at a good price and could get me in and out in 90 minutes--much faster than the 3 hours NTB quoted me. I thought I was saving time and money, but the reality was far from it. On my drive home, my car warned me about high tire pressure--43 and 42 PSI on the front tires when my car's recommended range is 30-35 PSI. Worse, the tires weren't even rotated, despite Brad specifically explaining why rotation was necessary to have the new tires with the most tread in the back. The pricing wasn't great either--turns out, the same tires are $20 cheaper at their competitor. On top of that, they performed an alignment I didn't authorize. I had an alignment done just three months ago, and it's typically recommended only once a year. I wasn't even given a courtesy call to let me know they were doing it--they just went ahead without asking. The whole experience left me feeling like I'd been taken advantage of. Poor attention to detail, lack of transparency, and questionable upselling practices make it hard for me to recommend this shop to anyone. I'd strongly suggest going elsewhere. read more

We use Black's Tires on ML King Boulevard in New Bern NC--Exclusively! Ron Thompson and his staff go above and beyond with their service. Clear explainations of the problem and they show you the damaged parts so you clearly see and understand what is needed. Their pricing is the best around. We had a problem with the tire pressure light going on and Ron himself told us to come in and he takes the tires off and finds the problem and fixes it! I always have a good experience when I visit Blacks Tire on East Palmetto St. I have dealt with them for years and before that my grandpa who raised me did. One thing I also like is that there seems to be a low turnover rate of employees, so there is years among years of experience there from intake and customer service to the more technical positions in the shop. Most know me by name upon walking through the door. There is also a high level of trust. I know that I can leave whatever I need to in my vehicle without worry or concern of missing property. That level of trust has taken YEARS to build and that level of service is priceless. read more
