When I called, the staff understood the urgency of the situation and scheduled the kittens to be seen right away. From the moment we arrived, everyone was welcoming, professional, and genuinely caring. Dr. Liberman performed a thorough examination, carefully listened to our observations, and took the time to explain her assessment and treatment plan. As first-time foster caregivers, we appreciated her knowledge, patience, and willingness to answer our questions. The exceptional care didn't end after our appointment. Robin called the following morning to check on the kittens, which was greatly appreciated. A few days later, I brought Chandler back because, although his fever had resolved, he was still experiencing gastrointestinal issues and remained very lethargic. During those several days, I communicated with Dr. Liberman and the staff multiple times, and they were consistently responsive, compassionate, and attentive. It was clear they were genuinely invested in Chandler's care and recovery. I highly recommend Dr. Liberman and the entire team at Sunshine Veterinary Hospital. I was in tears thanking her for her way with him at the end. I had never seen him be so receiving with a veterinarian before! I felt so at ease not having to watch him scream and cry. One of the main reasons…read moreI chose this hospital was because their website describes Dr. Maria Lowry as practicing both conventional and traditional/holistic treatments. I was desperately looking for a more holistic and integrative approach to help Leo, who had been struggling with severe allergies and constant paw licking. During Leo's first evaluation, Dr. Lowry told me, "Leo is a mess, and I wish I could give you a magic holistic pill to help him, but this is not the case." At the time, I was desperate to help Leo and trusted that her recommendations might be the right path. After extensive and expensive testing, including bloodwork and allergy testing, Leo was placed on prednisone, Sporimune (cyclosporine), and a strict Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein diet. Unfortunately, Leo did not do well with this treatment plan. He gained considerable weight on the new diet, and while taking the medications, he became extremely lethargic and weak. He had very little desire to walk or participate in his normal activities. Most concerning to me was that despite all of this, he continued licking his paws desperately. Seeing such an active little dog become so unlike himself was heartbreaking and alarming. I eventually felt I needed to seek another opinion urgently and consulted holistic veterinarian Dr. Michael Dym. His approach was very different. He changed Leo to a completely raw diet and focused on addressing his allergies from both the inside and outside, including supporting and rehabilitating his digestive system. Under this different approach, I saw a noticeable improvement in Leo's overall condition. Another disappointing part of my experience with Chasewood occurred when I asked whether I could return unopened medications and expensive unopened bags of prescription food that Leo would no longer be using. I was told they could not accept them as returns. When I then asked whether they would accept those same unopened items as a donation, I was told they would gladly take them. I also found my interactions with the front desk unpleasant. On several occasions, it took considerable effort and repeated follow-ups to receive Leo's evaluation and medical information by email. I spent a significant amount of money on consultations, testing, medications, and prescription food, but unfortunately, our experience and the results were not what I had hoped for. I am very grateful that I sought another opinion when I did and that Leo subsequently improved. I am not writing this review out of anger or retaliation. I am sharing our experience because I sincerely believe other pet parents deserve to hear different experiences when making decisions about their animals' care. Every animal is different, and another family may have a completely different experience. I can only speak honestly about what happened with Leo. If you are specifically seeking holistic or integrative veterinary care, I encourage you to ask detailed questions about what "holistic" means in the treatment approach being recommended and to consider seeking a second opinion if your pet is not responding well. Our pets cannot speak for themselves. As their caregivers, we have to pay close attention to what their bodies and behavior are telling us and advocate for them when something does not feel right.

They will also try to convince you to leave your dog there for "observation" all while the clock is ticking and money is racking up. They also took our dog to the back and said she was resting while they watched her, yet when they brought her back to me two hours later, she reeked of pee. She does not ever pee in the house unless she is outside. Would I ever go here ever again, never ever would. There are other quality emergency vets that will take you as a priority, treat you with compassion, and not keep you there forever while the clock ticks and the money goes up. It was suggested by the vet that she see a surgeon due to the position of the teeth near the jawline. I continues to leave messages each day at Dr. Wiegand's office and also filled out patient request forms online. My messages were that my little dog was in pain and I was told she needed back teeth removed by a dentist. NO ONE CONTACTED ME UNTIL 6 DAYS LATER on Saturday evening at 8:30PM THE RECEPTION WOMAN (AT 8:30 ON A SATURDAY NIGHT) acted as if this was normal. I told her that I could never trust a dentist that took a week to return a call especially knowing my pet was in pain. Her answer to me was this: "You are a cold-hearted person. The Dr. was at a funeral and he wouldn't want your dog here anyway. Then HUNG UP on me! Note: This was one of the strangest things I have ever experienced! Please DO NOT trust your pet with this Dr. Wiegand.

He and his wife went out of their way to reassure us about our decisions, the process and the surgery and post op. Our Siamese, Kizmet, needed full mouth tooth extraction. The surgery was a great success and Dr. Wiegand personally followed up every evening. Kizmet was having difficulty eating in the beginning so he met my husband at the office on a Sunday to give her fluids and show my husband how to feed her and teach her to eat. He was so patient and kind. It worked and she soon ate on her own and her mouth fully healed. During our initial consultation with them I can remember thinking they were nuts for saying that my cat would be happier after the full extraction and that she'd adapt to eating without teeth. They explained everything so thoroughly. It was still not an easy decision. We placed our trust in Dr. Wiegand. One year later we can honestly say that Kizmet is the happiest cat! Happier than we have seen her in the six years we have had her. She's super loving and playful. She has fully adapted to eating without her teeth- even her favorite solid food. She's warmer to her siblings and most of all, enjoys outside playtime with Daddy. We cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Wiegand! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him - and have already done so.

Unfortunately, after only one night there, I got a call in the morning to pick up my dog because she was barking all night, and the trainer couldn't get her to stop. I actually thought she was joking, but she was not.... After all, crate training in a room, other than my bedroom, was one of the goals. After the trainer offered to continue a training program if I would bring my dog to her daily, I decided not to as I wanted someone who could do a board and train. I was sent a refund for only a portion of what I paid. She kept the initial consultation fee, and she also charged me for the overnight, which was more than four times what my kennel charges for an overnight. I kid you not! All of the above is "fact", and needless to say I was upset that she didn't give me a full refund. So decide for yourself whether this trainer is right for you! My twin sister and mom both were invited to this event as well. This shelter is soo beautiful and I can tell that they really love their animals. Nikki gave us a tour of the facility and I really loved her energy and she explained everything so well. I love their dog walking schedule and they have the board color coded to make sure the different level of difficulty of walking the dog is connected with the level of experience that a volunteer has. I love that Yelp invited me to this event because I was able to cuddle with kitty's and touch beautiful dogs. They had delicious macaroons, bagel and yummy donuts. I got to meet Kelly the photographer and she was super sweet as well. Although I don't live near this shelter, I would like to try to volunteer as often as possible.
