I am guessing that like many customers of a veterinary clinic in FL, I am a part time client. I drive my dog cross country from OR, once a year lately, and stay for several months and I am considering being bi-coastal regularly anyway now and needed a vet here. This business was referred to me by a friend of an acquaintance. I have an old lab with allergy issues, amongst other concerns. I was looking for maintenance, second opinions and a go to in the event of an emergency etc. I found the staff here very professional, all performing their roles well. The doctor too. They were all broad thinkers. What I particularly liked was it was a homier practice. You don't get that same experience so much anymore with vet hospitals, because of the acquisitions of them, roll ups, unnecessary efficiencies etc. Their fees are reasonable but wholly appropriate. What a horrible so called vet. After pushing all kinds of vaccines on me and me saying no multiple times. He was so rude, cursed at me. Then yelled at me in front of his staff, told me if I didn't like it go somewhere else: he's a walking ATM machine who takes advantage of people's animals with zero ethics. read more

We are new dog grooming business in town and we were looking to help out and partner with other animal businesses. The front desk lady was very dismissive and short when we came in to introduce ourselves. It's unfortunate that local business like this won't work together for the better of our furry friends. I can't say how the practice is but if that's the way they treat newcomers I would not recommend. read more

Dr Ortiz has been treating my Pixie since she was a pup, went in for what we thought a routine teeth cleaning and Pixie had to be rushed to the emergency care after extracting 16 teeth, she was hemorrhaging internally and was brain dead, we were told the only human thing to do is put her down, she was only seven years old, not a day goes by without us thinking about her. While they are very nice when you are there and have an auto protocol for follow up it is BS and meaningless. They spayed my dog and 3 days later she had a terrible cough and choking thing going on. It was during the day I called them - they said they were too busy to see her. $400 at the ER. Gave them the benefit of the doubt and Friday July 15 2022, same thing. My dog puked up blood. They were too busy to see her - $499 at the ER. But they called 1st thing Saturday AM to see how she was doing with one of those BS save the customer calls. Never Never use them! read more

I boarded my cat there for about nine days and they took very good care of her. She's 12 years old and I've never been able to get her to eat wet food and they did. I could tell that she was happy and healthy and that's what I care about. They're very sweet over there. read more

My dog and cat have been long time patients at Stuart Animal Hospital. Both vets, Dr. Ortiz and Dr. Katz will always have your pet's best interest at heart. They and their staff truly care for the animals, they're patient, understanding and compassionate. I feel better taken care of at their office than at my general practitioner, they will take the time to explain a diagnoses to its full extent and provide you with every option for treatment. I lived in Stuart many years but I also visited another state several times a year and I had a vet there as well. Dr Ortiz is great but I had a serious issue with Dr Katz. I had a senior dog with multiple issues and during one visit Katz recommended an antibiotic for an issue I already had medication for. This guy went nuts on me insulting me in the reception area in front of his staff and other clients because I refused the antibiotic. He has a god complex. He went so far as to accuse me of probably not even having my dog on heart worm meds. I offered the phone number of my other vet which he refused and continued his tirade. Saying if this was you you'd be at the ER in a minute. I never went back and I never got an apology. The most unprofessional behavior I have ever encountered. It was extremely upsetting. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. I've taken my dog to Stuart Animal Hospital for a number of years. About 4 years ago, my dog started losing his hair. While Dr. Ortiz seemed to care about my dog's hair loss, he chalked it up to alopecia or allergies. I researched allergies and alopecia, then took my dog to an allergy specialist in southern West Palm Beach. After doing thousands of dollars' worth of tests, there was no definitive explanation. I changed my dog's diet completely and was very careful regarding pesticides, cleaning materials, etc. A few years passed, and my dog lost almost all of his hair. He also developed other side effects which were a pot belly (I was told by Dr. Ortiz to put him on a diet) and sore, stiff legs (diagnosed as arthritis), plus he seemed sluggish (put on Thyroid meds). Eventually, my dog's poor legs became misshapen and he developed periods of shaking (it was suggested by a staff member that my dog might be nervous or cold). The sad look in my dog's eyes was proof that he was ill and no longer able to go for walks or playing for more than a few minutes at a time without becoming tired. I recently took my dog in for a routine check-up with Dr. Katz. I mentioned that I had done some research and my dog showed many of the signs of Cushings. Dr. Katz agreed and ran a blood test that same day. I was astounded to learn that the test came back negative, so I did some more research. The test Dr. Katz performed wasn't done under the optimal setting (my dog should have been tested early morning after fasting, but the test was performed in the early afternoon after the dog had eaten and taken meds). Further, I was told that my dog had shown signs of red blood cells in his urine and since he had a history of bladder infections, Dr. Kats wanted to do an X-Ray. My dog had never been diagnosed with a bladder problem previously, and when I told the assistant that, she seemed confused. She still recommended the x-ray. I wasn't feeling very confident about this latest visit. Concerned about the Cushings test results, how the test had been administered, and the seemingly incompetence of the staff, I contacted another animal hospital for a second opinion. When I requested that Stuart Animal Hospital send my dog's records to the other Vet, one of the assistants said they'd fax over my dog's records in time for his appointment. The next morning, I received a nasty, condescending voice message from Dr. Katz berating me for not accepting his diagnosis, my questioning how he performed the test and for "playing doctor". Long story short, I had to make 4 phone calls to Stuart Animal Hospital to get them to begrudgingly fax over my dog's records. They sent only one year's worth of records. Further requests were met with "we'll do that right away." and stonewalling. My dog was diagnosed at the new hospital with 2 types of Cushings, plus an enlarged liver. No bladder infection. The Dr. was appalled at how I was treated and agreed that I would likely have to go to Stuart Animal Hospital and request a hard copy of the records. The new Dr. showed me that many of the Stuart Animal Hospital record entries were illegible and not even dated. Dr. Katz behaved in a thoroughly unprofessional and negligent manner. Dr. Ortiz, while polite, was ineffectual. Because of the apathetic attitudes and total incompetence of the doctors and staff of Stuart Animal Hospital, my dog will likely have a shortened lifespan. He has suffered painfully and needlessly and his quality of life has been poor for the last few years. He may not improve. If these vets were human doctors, they'd be facing a malpractice suit. read more

We used Stuart animal hospital for 15 years. We brought one our Great Danes to the hospital in November with one of he front legs bothering her. Dr Ortiz treated her with pain medicine. He took lots of X-rays.After we brought her in several times, Dr Ortiz suggested we take her to a specialist. The doctor squeezed her leg took one X-ray and said she has bone cancer. When I said "Why didn't Dr Ortiz find it" his answer was we all miss one. We immediately changed vets. We took another dog to the new vet today. Dr Ortiz said she has Cushings disease. The new vet asked which of the two variations of the Disease Ester has. One has much more severe consequences. There is no indication in Ester's history that suggests Dr. Ortiz even knows about the two forms. read more

Genuinely care about the well being of your pet and Dr. Ortiz is extremely knowledgeable and keeps abreast of all new advances in vetinary medicine. Staff is very friendly.
