This restaurant is really cute and feels very much home-yish. We were greeted and seated as soon as we walked in and the server was friendly from the start. I had a breakfast dish which included the basic pancakes, scrambled eggs, ham, and hash browns. My food had no flavor :( it was the most basic dish I could've possibly ordered and yet it was not good. I basically poured the whole jar of salt on top to give it some flavor... Service was good though and she kept our cups refilled. Prices are reasonable. My fronds weren't too impressed with their foods either sayin that theirs lacked flavor as well, maybe it was an off day for the kitchen staff? read more

WOW! I'm so impressed, I ordered the Tequila Shrimp which was flambés my partner loves Caldo de Queso and that was also so delicious. My shrimp was so fresh and cooked to perfection! We also enjoyed the "Sautéed mushrooms" -Mexico does them very well! My margaritas were the best! My partners pina colada was the best too! The ambiance was great, the service GREAT, Armando was GREAT!! Oh, and the prices GREAT! Appetizers include chips, salsa, bread and a ham salad....old school but I loved it! By far the best restaurant in San Carlos! Blackie's did not disappoint. My wife had the pasta with lobster, and I had the short ribs with shrimp--both dishes were packed with flavor. We also enjoyed some amazing wine and thoroughly loved our evening. The service was second to none--hands down the best in San Carlos. Caveat: I am a Korean-American professional who's lived most of her life in the Boston area. I prefer local food to "Americanized versions" of the same while traveling abroad; similarly, I tend to avoid American chain restaurants when away from Massachusetts. I have spent several weeks Central and South America: Costa Rica; Cancun, Mexico; and Colombia. We ordered a prime rib "New Year's Special" and it was 25% gristle. When the wait staff came to ask about our satisfaction with our meal, I mentioned this and pointed to my plate. His response was to give me a dirty look and tell me that's how prime rib is supposed to be. Besides it being a fat-laden piece of meat, it wasn't very tasty besides: tough and the flavor was fairly mediocre. We also ordered a shrimp salad and, oddly, it was presented on a bed of thick orange slices. The dish itself was primarily a mix of boiled shrimp and shredded romaine lettuce tossed in mayonnaise and flanked with slices of raw tomato. We would not have ordered the dish had we known what it was: we were expecting a local-style salad of shrimp, avocado, onion, and seasoning like we had at other San Carlos restaurants. Lastly, the cilantro soup was overly creamy. Literally, the best part of the meal was side of mashed potatoes besides the complementary tortilla chips and dinner rolls. Our total for 2 people and the above plus 2 non-alcoholic drinks was about $40 USD or $20/person. We were disappointed and regretted that we had one of our 3 non-resort, restaurant dinners while in San Carlos. All it all, save your money for the Soggy Peso, where you can get SO much more for your buck, delicious local fare, and a beach sunset to boot. If you want to spend closer to what we paid at Blackie's and have plenty of American-friendly menu options, definitely check out Soggy Peso's beach neighbor -- The Sunset Grill: the portions are small, but flavorful and beautifully presented. read more

Pretty great compared to our other options on this weird vacation due to the pandemic. It's very clean here and smells clean. Lots of art on the wall a whole wall full of freda karlo. Father in law had hot cakes and said they were good and tasted homemade fresh. I had chiliques verde and they were good. Not spectacular but the basic and I'm glad it didn't have the funny smelling cheese. read more

Great place in the middle of San Carlos. My fish was fresh, perfectly prepared, and filling. The caesar dressing was some of the best I've had, and the salad was worthy of the dressing. The ambiance is second to none. The high vaulted wood ceiling with natural light really set the tone for a great meal. Great staff, great food, at a fair price. I will be back. read more

We ended up at Blackie's late at night, close to closing time. Everyone was very nice. We had like 5 people waiting on us. The menu isn't big but all the dishes sound good. I had the Fish deluxe (Spinach stuffed fish cooked or drizzled in white wine). The portion was enough, not too much and too little. Maybe like 6oz of fish with a side of green beans and a scoop of Mexican rice. It was so savory, I wish I had the recipe. The entire staff is very professional. I would recommend this place to friends and family. I would definitely come back when we are in San Carlos. read more

Delicious! Mini-chateaubriand cooked tableside was perfect. One caveat - I tend to ask for steak done less than I'd really like because almost every place cooks it one notch more than what I request, it seems. Don't do that here! I have been coming to Blackie's since I was a little girl and to this day, the food is consistently good. You will immediately notice how attentive and happy the servers and bartenders are. They're quick to serve you and very friendly. The cocktails at the bar are always a hit and the food is delicious. This last time I went I had the special which was a lightly breaded lenguado fish covered in a white wine, chili pepper flake sauce served with a side of rice and steamed veggies. It was so good in fact that I forgot to take a photo of the dish before I dug in, sorry! Their banana cream pie was also tasty! The atmosphere and inside décor is just another reason why I love coming to Blackie's and will continue to do so for dinner. read more
