What started as a modest little spot now feels like a staple, complete with an unbeatable selection of home baked goods you won't find elsewhere in town. Enjoyed a stop here for coffee and a light breakfast. A slight wait, but nothing crazy. Space inside is nice, definitely a place you can sit a bit. Had the acai bowl and a breakfast croissant. The acai bowl was really filling, they certainly didn't skimp on it. Coffee was good as well. Make a stop at Blackbird if you're looking for a coffee fix. read more

I won't lie, I may have chirped with glee when I walked in the doors of this place. While I wasn't a fan of the person who took my order, (she was a little standoffish), I cannot deny the amazingness of all the things that we got while we were there! I got a cardamom Thai latte which was delicious, and my father and I got a ton of pastries, a quinoa bowl, and a turkey sandwich all for our long trip to North Dakota. Every single thing was so, so good. Not a miss in the bunch. There is lots of seating and looks to be a great place to hang out or to get work done. I wish I lived in the area so I could try everything. read more

My only regret is we don't live closer! My wife had a mocha and I had a simple latte. Each was excellent, not too sweet to cover the espresso flavor and the right consistency. We also got two pastries - both delicious. Expensive, but deservedly so. We have family nearby in Wyoming and will make a point to hit this place every time, both on our way and way back. read more

Love coffee shops like this that aren't a chain. Character, mismatched furniture! But the review really should be about the food, it is excellent. We had a Kings breakfast pastie. Excellent flavor. And topped that with a homemade raspberry pop tart. These are NOT the pop tarts of your youth. Delicious! There's lots of seating inside, plus several tables outside as well, in shade or not. We did not try a coffee, but the selections sounded amazing. read more

Quick stop for my daily latte. Loved this place. I saw people chatting and working inside. The decor felt very hip and creative. It was a chilly morn so no one enjoying the covered patio but it looked like a great spot to hang. My latte was delicious. Service was excellent. Very good cappuccino, we actually hit them late in the day. I think it was about 20 minutes before closing. They close promptly at four. Hey, I get it. They've probably been there all morning since 6 AM. Pastries were very good, I got the homemade pop tart, my wife picked up two bags of granola. It was stellar. All around good coffee and edible items. It's a shame they're not open later but hey, we can't all have everything we want. read more

The cozy enviroment and friendly baristas makes this a comforting place to chill for a bit. Having a stressful day? This the place the ground yourself and chill. The first time I went here I got an iced matcha that tasted nothing like matcha, despite asking for extra powder in my drink. I left a review on this and got a reply from the business telling me they fixed their matcha process and will buy me a new one if I give them another chance. I went into today for another attempt at a tasty beverage and was not disappointed. A very helpful and understanding worker named Maggie gave me my free tea drink and was very considerate about my experience. This drink was much better than the first one. I asked for more powder just because I like stronger matcha, but it was so much better I could even drink it without the extra matcha. I highly recommend this business especially for their chill vibes and top-notch service. read more

The service at Blackbird was amazing! The staff was very attentive and helpful with our questions. We ordered a vanilla latte and an americano. The coffee is AMAZING! Probably the best coffee I've had on our trip to SD. We also tried the raspberry pop tart and lemon poppyseed muffin. The pop tart is homemade and is delicious! The lemon poppy seed muffin was good, but was raw dough in the middle. The flavor was really good, just wish it had been baked a bit longer. This is my favorite place on all of I90. I make a point to stop in Spearfish specifically for this coffee shop. It is so cute in there and the staff is amazing. Very friendly and accommodating. We stopped in right before close as Yelp said they closed an hour later than they actual closed. They still served us with smiles on their faces and gave us recommendations for a quick bite to eat which was so helpful. Their food looks amazing but haven't had the chance to try it yet. I love the oat milk cappuccino and their iced Americano is the best. I had to order both for the road. Super cute cup sleeves. I wish they had shirts/hats/sweatshirts with their name and or logo. Would like to buy them. Always look forward to my stops here! read more

Hands down, 5 bold gold stars. They have a walk up window, very Covid safe. The person taking my order was sweet and goofy. My husband ordered his usual espresso and I probably ordered a specialty latte (I don't remember) both were outstanding. There is plenty of outside seating, some shaded. Soon after, we decided to get breakfast. Both the Elvis waffle and the acai bowl were out of this world. Ok, that might be a slight exaggeration, but they were really good. read more

Stopped here on the way out of town. The breakfast food was soooo good!! Hold on to your seat if you order the Bright Eyes Açaí Bowl!! I could eat this for every meal!! Delish! And the breakfast pasty....perfectly seasoned, so warm and the crust was so flaky!! read more

Celiacs beware! I went here since I found a website saying they had gluten free options. The labeled gf options were out, so I asked about the paleo pumpkin bread. When asked if it was gf, I was told by 2 employees that it was paleo. I don't eat paleo, so I'm not familiar with that diet when it comes to grains. I would think that if a restaurant serves gf options that the employees would be familiar with what gf means, especially when eating gluten can make me very sick! read more

Great little place to stop for breakfast on a road trip! Got the paleo pumpkin bread and the chèvre & rosemary muffin, with a green tea. My 'rents got an apricot pop tart, peach-zucchini muffin and a scone. All delicious, but the very best was the pop tart, peach-zucchini muffin (very moist!) and goat cheese muffin. I stopped at this shop on my way out of town during a cross-country road trip. I ordered cold brew that was described as having "notes of lemon," and I thought it was just a marketing ploy - but I tasted the notes of lemon. It was the best single cup of coffee I've ever had. I was about 20 miles out when I finished and wanted to go back for another, but my co-passenger said no. Blackbird Espresso is a special coffee shop in a special place. Situated on Main St in Spearfish, this coffee oasis has great service and top notch coffee. Indoor and outdoor seating make for a great experience all year long. My husband and I are avid coffee drinkers and we've tried everything in the area. The baristas were easily able to figure out how to customize the drink and they even explained to me how I could order it again. Although this is located in a grocery store and doesn't have its own building, the employees still give off a great ambiance.
