Rich Leggit DJ'd our wedding on May 31, 2025, in Hilton Head Island, SC, and we're so thankful he was a part of our day. From the start, Rich was incredibly easy to work with--super responsive, organized, and flexible. He gave us everything we needed to be as involved (or not) in the music selection process as we wanted, which took a lot of pressure off (if I so desired lol). One of the best parts was how easy Rich made it to manage song requests. We were able to collect requests from our guests ahead of time through the RSVP process, which helped us build a playlist of pre-approved songs that we were comfortable with for our child-friendly wedding. This also meant Rich could easily avoid anything we didn't want played--without us having to stress about it on the day of. Rich also went the extra mile to work with us days before the big day. We were able to drop off a USB Drive with MP3's of custom covers recorded by my SIL and her husband to be played during the pre-ceremony seating music. Being capable of incorporating these personal details meant a lot to us. During the reception, Rich found the perfect balance--he got guests out on the dance floor without ever being pushy or over-the-top. He kept the energy just right all evening long, which can be a tough line to walk as I have been to weddings where the DJ would be too over the top and sort of ruin the atmosphere. We had family travel from across the United States to celebrate with us and we wanted it to be easy for people to dance but also chat and catch up. Just a perfect balance for us, but know he clearly asks how involved we wanted him beforehand. So, if you like super involved he can absolutely do that too! The app Black Tie Events promotes for organizing music wasn't the easiest and user friendly for me so we ultimately used Spotify to build out our playlist, and everything came together beautifully. I felt horrible getting our playlist to him at the last possible second (despite him providing everything we could have possibly needed well in advance), so I definitely spent a little extra time creating clearly titled playlists within our wedding folder to make it easier for him, but he was still extremely gracious working with us on a tighter deadline that gave him ample time to do what he needed to do to have everything set for our big day. For us, being able to create a specifically curated music experience made the night feel that much more "us" and ensured we had the vibes we wanted. All around, we had a 10/10 experience and are so glad Rich was our DJ for our wedding! read more

Rich, the owner of Black Tie Events, was incredibly helpful in assisting in making sure a custom speed version of our first dance song was the one loaded into their system. Best of all, the price I came across was very reasonable compared to many of the other quotes I received. One of the things I loved about Black Tie Events was that they have an app where you can load in the songs you'd like them to play for your wedding, There are tons of songs in the app, and you can add songs that aren't in the app as well. Black Tie offers an easy to understand outline for your event where you list things like your wedding party names, first dance song, last dance song, etc. and everything is customized to meet your wedding's needs. Tyler, our day-of-DJ, was professional and everything ran extremely smoothly. Black Tie Events did an outstanding job providing sound for all aspects of our wedding day from microphone for the officiant to music and announcements for the reception. The owner Rich Leggitt was easy to work with and our DJ for the day, Brett, was fantastic. 1) Music - Black Tie has a great selection of music to choose from for events and they worked with us to ensure that music for our special moments (bridal procession, first dance, etc.) was perfect. He was able to take our song list and provide all of the right music at the right moments. 2) Time Management - With all that happens in a wedding it would be easy to get behind schedule. Brett did a great job helping us manage the flow of the reception to ensure that announcements were made at the right times and that we wrapped up on time. 3) Reasonable Pricing - It is easy to see costs rapidly soar when planning a wedding so staying within budget is important. We booked Black Tie Events for our wedding because of word of mouth reviews, and I would say that we were pleased overall, but there were a few snags. Before the wedding, the owner (Rich) worked with us over the phone with all our details. He was very professional and definitely on the ball with everything. On the day of our wedding, I learned that he had pulled out his back, so Jorge was filling in for him. Fine, no problem. I guess I just would have liked a phone call or something? Jorge was exactly what we wanted in a DJ. He was very reserved, not goofy at all, and played some great music and took all requests. Somehow our introduction song was skipped and we went straight to the first dance, though, which kind of was a let down. All in all, a good source for entertainment, just be very very specific when you are picking your songs. read more

Now I will admit, I am not much of a DJ person at all. But we had to save money somewhere, and having a DJ instead of a live band was one way to save tons of money. If I had everything, I'd prefer a band....however, Black Tie Events came highly recommended by multiple sources. The owner, Rich Leggett, actually DJed our wedding which was great! Considering our wedding was half Korean guests, who have never been to an "American style wedding" with dancing and a sit down served dinner, he had a very tough task ahead of him! Well, somehow, someway, he got everyone on the dance floor. My wife said it was the first time in her life she saw her mom dance. We even have a picture for proof! I never heard so many people compliment a DJ...everyone was so impressed! I have to say he did a great job of understanding the mood of the reception and knowing when to tone down, and knowing when to amp it up. He wasn't cheesy and didn't pull out any gimmicks. He even convinced me to play the Electric Slide which I was totally against and had it on the "black list", but he was right...everyone got out on the dance floor, even though I went to go get a drink! But it's about having fun, and he had everyone feeling good. Impressive though, that he pulled me aside and asked me first. Professional all the way. 4 stars because I always say a live band is the best...but if you are going to choose a DJ with professionalism and class, it's Black Tie Events! read more

i left my wedding disappointed with the dj. first off, our dj played the wrong song for my entrance with my bride. i requested several songs throughout the night and the dj told me he didn't have the songs available to play. these were not obscure indie song requests. before the wedding we submitted a playlist through black tie events website and almost none of the songs played throughout the night were on the playlist we picked beforehand. we did allow for people to make requests, but the requested songs should not have outnumbered the songs we picked. so either the dj forgot who was paying him or he left our playlist at home. id look elsewhere for a dj if you want a lot of say in your songs. read more

We attended a wedding recently where Rich (the owner of Black Tie Events) was the dj. Being in the wedding industry ourselves, we see MANY dj's throughout the year as we're photographing events. Rich delivered an amazing crowd pleasing experience. He did a fantastic job in entertaining the guests as well as keeping them well engaged throughout the evening. It's been a while since we've stumbled across a dj with such a warm personality that BROUGHT the entertainment value to the wedding reception. While most dj's we see now tend to take a passive stance on the dance floor and let the reception run it's course, Rich took charge of the event. He took it on as his personal responsibility to see to it that EVERY guest was having an amazing time on the dance floor. We had a great experience with Black Tie Events! They were recommended to us by our venue, Little Gardens, and now we know why. The owner Rich, was very easy to work with - we planned our wedding from San Francisco, so juggling the time difference was a concern. But Rich and his staff made the planning process a breeze! Even when we had last-minute (and I mean last-minute) changes, they were very helpful and professional. Our DJ Brett was awesome! I didn't think my side of the family would get out on the dance floor, but he made it happen! We didn't have time to pick out specific songs for the dance portion of our wedding, so we picked a few decades and left it up to our DJ! I heard a bunch of great music while I was mingling with everyone. I can honestly say, I didn't hear a single song that made me go "Ugh." He played a really wide range of stuff, and everyone had a blast!! We also complicated things by bringing in a guitarist to play certain parts of our ceremony music. Our DJ was then responsible for the rest of the ceremony music. It was SEAMLESS. Everything flowed really well, and he was even able to loop some of the pre-processional music because some of my elderly relatives took a little longer getting to their seats :) Brett had a great energy, and I saw him bounding all over the venue getting stuff ready for us! He did a great job rolling with some last-minute surprises, too, as my husband's best man made an unscheduled toast, and one of the grandfathers played a song on his guitar for us! My only wish was that our introduction song had been played in full - I wish we had known that the song would only be played for about 30 seconds as we walked in and then sat down. I was sort of hoping it would kick off the dinner service since it was such a fun song. Oh well! One of those things that no one but the couple notices :) read more

I host an annual event at my Church for approximately 250 people. We have a member of the church who has DJ'd this event for us for the last 8 years. This year, we found out at the last minute that he was unavailable. We were in the process of cancelling the event when someone asked if I would call the DJ my son had used at his wedding because they had enjoyed the DJ and event so much. I placed the call to Rich and luckily he was available to DJ for us. We were thrilled, but nervous because the same person had done it for so many years and the group was used to him. This fall, my daughter got married, using Black Tie Events to do the music for both the ceremony and reception. To say I was disappointed, would be an understatement. Music was to begin 30 minutes prior to the ceremony, but didn't begin until most of the guests had arrived (about 7 minutes prior to the ceremony beginning). The ceremony music was out of order--starting with the processional music, then repeating it 2 songs later. Additionally, the DJ totally skipped a specially requested song for the ceremony. The sound for the ceremony was so soft, several guests couldn't hear. The sound for the recording picked up all wind, which distracted greatly from the wedding DVD . The mistakes continued to the reception. The DJ was given a list to announce the wedding party--and called the names of every couple incorrectly. He went out of order for the toasts, never announcing the groom's thank you to the guests. He also did not follow the requests of music that the bride had requested prior to the wedding. Many commented at the reception, that the music was so loud during dinner, that conversation was difficult at best (in spite of the fact that soft classical music during dinner was requested). The DJ seemed inexperienced and ill equipped to make the event the memorable event it should have been. Following the event, I called with these comments to Rich Leggett who promised to look into these challenges and get back to me. It's been over 3 weeks with no further contact from him. If professionalism and follow through for your event is desired, steer clear of Black Tie Events. read more

If I could leave no stars I would!! My fiancé and I were looking for a DJ for our wedding next year and this company and Rich in particular were recommended to us by our officiant. At first they sounded great but after receiving some less than impressive documentation such as a contract riddled with spelling errors I began to question our decision. At that point I turned to reviews and read several things that worried me. I emailed Rich with my concerns and I was sent and email back to call him or give him my number to call me to discuss. I called him back the very morning I received his email and left a voicemail with my name and number. That was 5 days ago and I have heard nothing. Needless to say I responded again via email advising him to consider the whole conversation over. We are going elsewhere. Do not waste your precious wedding budget money on someone who will not even communicate about concerns. read more
