It opened with The Cookout. Let's just say....It was a cookout that I would have left early....before the ribs were done and the potato salad came out. The dance came off tentative and not strongly executed. The movements seemed effortless and not very challenging. With songs like Bra and Movin by Brass Construction....I expected some powerhouse stand-out performances and felt disappointed. At first I thought it was just me but when the dance ended, my best friend said...."that looked more like a rehearsal". The costumes did not do it for me and I think this should have involved more dancers in vinettes telling different stories you would see at at cookout...."The drunk Uncle" The dancing Auntie that turns up......young folk crazy dances all interpreted through modern jazz and ballet. Even the sexy male lead dancers ...(and did I say SEXY) could not save this lackluster dance. This was clearly not DTH's lane. Like when Ailey did "Home" paying Homage to the Paradise Garage days paired with the aids crisis....I felt that all through my body...it connected and certainly resonated with everyone. The other three DTH pieces were brilliantly executed and beautiful to watch. This was truly their lane. All of the Principle dances were absolutely amazing!!!! Kouadio Davis' presences is captivating as well as Derek Brockington. Elias Re has the most beautiful long arms making his extensions memorable. Wanted to see more of this dancer. Carly Greene was FABULOUS!!!!!!!

When I was a dancer I had friends in the company and used to watch them in person all the time at New York City Center! They can't be compared to any other company especially no other African American company. They are in a league of their own! They outclass any other NY company with a diverse repertoire. That is not my opinion that is undisputed in the dance world! Virginia Johnson an original dancer and my favorite of DTH is now the artistic director! I can recall falling on my head numerous of times right in-front of the teacher, and it wasn't until the end of class when I ran out crying to my mom that the teacher would say " I didn't even know you fell ". Completely unsafe and unprofessional. I could even recall one time in an acro class, I accidentally fell onto the owners niece, and the owner got in my face and screamed at me that I could have " killed her niece "? I was 7 years old.

They always have more men than women at the events I can remember. If you attend an event for a certain age range they allow older people outside of the age range to attend. They do this so they can make more money. You have to wait since they allow uneven men and women to attend perhaps twenty minutes in total so everyone can have a turn. They have empty seats in the speed event so you might speak to one person, then have to wait fifteen minutes to speak to another. Then after you speak to them brace yourself to wait another five minutes till it is your turn again. You won't get a relationship out of it but only a date if you are lucky. One person went out with me and another individual at the same time. Expect validation to take place if you do get a date. Most people won't be your type. They also allow people in that are both straight and gay and don't advertise this. This way if you are straight you will be meeting gay people. They do this to make more money. The event was free to enter and shop, I purchased a VIP ticket for $35.00 for myself and my sister. VIP tickets included unlimited drinks at the bar , DIY jewelry making and the choice of 2 gifts. Hook Studios is spacious but it took me less than 10 mins to cover the whole event. I will visit the again but I will pass on the VIP tickets.

We had 165 people and only 75 photos were taken in a five hour period. That's my main disappointment is that no one that was working the Photo Booth told the MC to make announcements that there was a photo booth to go take pictures in. My son didn't even get any pictures because he didn't know there was a photo booth. And because it was such a big room and there were so many people end it was a tucked in a corner that it could be hard to miss. That was a huge disappointment!! I was bummed that I spent all this money and after the party people kept saying they didn't even know there was a photo booth. So many people didn't have their photo taken. Also, there were two people there working in the photo booth and the girl that was working the photo booth kept taking pictures of herself so when I got my link to get copies of the photos there were all these photos of this girl that nobody knew who actually worked with this company. Bizarre to say the least. I got the link pretty quick to order photos but unfortunately shortly after Covid started so I never got it done. The company was nice enough to let me order from them. And they made prints for me. The Equipment is clean the owner and his wife are super nice and accommodating. My next big bash I'll definitely use them.

Over the next 2 years, this woman helped me get in the best shape of my life, and I finally experienced what it truly feels like to be alive! I doesn't matter what age you are, she is so encouraging and supportive that you will be amazed at what you are capable of. I recommend this for anyone, and many of her students are well beyond their 40s ( I met her 20 years ago, and wouldn't have ever stopped if I hadn't left NY). Once in a while I get that treasured experience of being able to go back, and she's always thrilled to see me. She also does a body conditioning class, and it's unbelievable!
