The server is actually from Greece and was very knowledgeable in all aspects of Greek cuisine. As always the food was excellent and always served piping hot. Well we were provided a meal during my wife's shiva period observed as a Jewish person after the death of a loved one. She had the amazingly delicious grilled salmon with vegetables and a stupendous feta tomato salad. We dine at Black Olive regularly. My Aunt is 100+ and in a wheelchair. The staff is very accommodating, assisting with the doors and getting her seated. Penny is a delight! She always stops by to chat and we always feel so welcome. Our waiter most of the time is Zach, he is attentive, friendly and professional. Zach welcomes us back and offers a nice conversation prior to taking our order. He manages the entire dining room by himself most of the time (we are there on a weeknight usually). Another server, I think her name is Carly? She has been a friendly face and welcomes us each time she waits on us-she is also very professional. We never feel rushed. The food has been terrific EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. We order the lamb chops regularly (My Aunt orders them every time!) and they are absolutely cooked to perfection! The seasoning and cooked to order temperature is on point every time. You must try the warm feta cheese appetizer with tomatoes-the warm pita bread is perfect for dipping. The Black Olive Chips with Tzatziki sauce is freshly made and delicous! The Horiatiki salad with shrimp (my go to dish) has the perfect balance of seasonings and the perfect amount of dressing. We have had the orange cake for dessert as well as a few others and they are all great. A lot of times we are too full to eat dessert. Sharing a dessert usually works when we do. Been wanting to try this place for a while and we finally made it for lunch. There were no diners when we got there on a rainy Friday ... but 4 other tables and 1 takeout order all came in within minutes. You would have thought the one waiter doing everything would have been overwhelmed ... but he was absolutely awesome and super attentive to everyone. For appetizers, we ordered the Eggplant Salad and the Spanakopita (spinach pie). They were a good start to our meal. For our entrees, we had the Gyro Platter ($14) and the Chicken Souvlaki Sandwich ($12) ... both came with a large portion of Greek Fries on the side. The platter had an ample amount of gyro meat along with a pita, lettuce, tomato, onion and tzatziki ... all very tasty. The sandwich was also good ... but a bit on the smaller side. So we'd probably go with platters to wrap our own next time ... hopefully some time soon! read more

One of the worst meals I've had in a while. $70 for takeout for 2. Left a 20% tip. 3% surcharge for use of credit card. For real. Received: - overcooked little bits of chicken and 1 pita in the gyro. Threw it out. The French fries were good. The lettuce that came with it was soaked through with oil and vinegar. Threw it out. - 5 total shrimp in the shrimp appetizer which was around $20. They were overcooked. Nothing at all with it except 1 piece of lemon. Ordered a side of fries. They were good. I have had better meals in train stations at closing time. Will not be returning! Went for dinner with a party of 6, and the ambiance was nice but that was about it. Service was okay, and the online menu did not match the prices on site. I ordered the 3 dip spread with hummus, tyrokafteri, and melitzanosalata for $21 ($19 online). Decent portion and tasted good, besides the melitz which was off. HOWEVER, I ordered this with the intention of taking leftovers, as I wasn't very hungry and didn't want a full meal. The server offered to wrap my dish, and when it came back, this is what he gave me!!! There were full PILES left of each dip on my plate, but he put a tablespoon of each into little cups and called it a day. I wanted to ask "where are the rest of my leftovers???", but did not want to make a fuss in front of my group, since they were either discarded or eaten already anyway. For $21, I expected to receive ALL of my leftover food in my to-go box, but this is what I got. I would name the server, but he didn't even introduce himself! Knocking off two stars because we went to pick up a takeout order last night and the male server who helped us had his mask down and then put it up barely halfway when he brought his out our bag. We seriously considered throwing out the food we paid for because the fact that he emerged from the kitchen when we came in with his mask DOWN was pretty unsettling. This is our favorite Greek restaurant in the area. We love the Octopus, Saganaki, Dolmades & Black Olive chip appetizers. We also enjoyed the Hummus & Tzatziki. For dinner we love the Mousaka, Gyro platter, Mixed Grill, Chicken Corfu and Pork Chop. Last night, I loved the Catch of the day special. It was Grouper in a white wine butter sauce with Asparagus (we added lemon potatoes too). Dinners come with a salad. For dessert, we always order the Blueberry Gliko and last night they had a Ekmek Kataifi. Both were excellent. It's a BYOB. Ashley and Zach are excellent servers. read more

BE CAREFUL NEW OWNERS & PRICES ARE TWICE AS HIGH!!! My mother and i came in for lunch, and noticed that the menu had changed apparently there's no more lunch menu-only extremely expensive dishes! We had an appetizer and salad and two desserts and the total was 71$ (not including tip) we asked for a side of feta cheese and we were charged 12$ for 1 small square of cheese!!! How can this restaurant openly scam you like this!? And, please beware the food has absolutely no flavor whatsoever, and you'll be sorry when you get the bill too! Complimentary olives, bread and oil for dipping were served with our drinks. He ordered the gyro platter, with meat and fries well done. We hadn't ordered food from this place since the new owners took over. I wanted take-out, was too late to order from the lunch menu, but since it was for a birthday dinner I decided to suck it up and pay big bucks for what I *assumed* would be larger portions of tasty foods than a lunch order. The spanikopita cost $19 and was about 4"x4". The moussaka was fairly tasty, but at $26 it should have been a larger portion. Calamari was $19 for a very small portion, which might have been OK except for the fact that about 20% was inedible. I've never had calamari that tasted like shrimp shells before, but I literally couldn't chew many of the leather-like pieces and had to spit them out. The melitzanosalata was some weird not-quite-cooked eggplant chopped up into a kind of salsa. Nothing like any I ever had before, I ate one tablespoon and threw the rest out. The chicken souvlaki pita sandwich was tasty but for $18 it should have included more than a dozen fries. In the end I spent $100 for less than $25 of edible food. I will never, ever, ever buy "food" from this place again. Very disappointing. #Sad read more

I was a little disappointed in our meal at the Black Olive. It might have been I was expecting too much from all of the excellent reviews. I will give it another try, but based on my recent trip the Black Olive was good but not great. The place is really nice inside now. This is the second or third restaurant that has been in this location. We were there on a Saturday night and they were pretty much full. The service was attentive and efficient. The food came pretty quickly also. We started with the Hummus appetizer. This was not bad but not anything awesome either. It did taste fresh. I had the Moussaka , a dish I order at almost every Greek or Turkish restaurant I try. The Black Olive's was good but not great, it just tasted a bit bland for me. My daughter had a special with lamb over pasta in a gravy sauce. The lamb was super tender but again the whole dish seemed to lack flavor and seasoning. I enjoy Greek food and I will give the Black Olive another try soon. read more

Next to Kuzzina's (no longer in business) this is one of the few Greek places you kind find in the Cherry Hill area. They offer the classic gyro platter which I always order. Nice size portions and decently priced. They give you complimentary dipping oil, but the amount they provide you is so small so you always have to ask for more Service is consistently slow-- often find myself needing a refill but waiting to find the server. read more

She said all the good with tried transported her back to one of her favorite vacations in the Greek Islands! She said the food was the same and so wonderful! Maybe I could understand at dinner time after a crowd might have wiped you out, but this was still fairly early in the day and few people seated. Anyway, I got over myself and opted instead for a pork souvlaki while my dining partner opted for a gyro. The difference between the two dishes were a little surprising; mine came with just a few small chunks of pork while her gyro was overloaded with lamb meat. However, she asked for no onion, which they ignored, and she resorted to picking them all out instead of waiting for a new sandwich to be made. The mountain of fries were delicious - I almost want to say there were too many fries, but I might be accused of being ungrateful.
