No Follow up over 3 years to service their own work! Time after time I have just been humored!!

The female customer service representative was appallingly unprofessional. If it is Margaret/part owner she should be ashamed. There are wonderful alternatives and the market is far from cornered. Do yourself a favour and pick a different company to deal with. They are also the highest priced and that does not indicate quality. Pick a different chimney cleaning company. read more

No problem with the actual service but the guy who showed up needs to work on his social skills. Not the nicest guy. He told me also there was no way I could clean my chimney myself but he was wrong. He said I couldn't get the flexible rods that attached to a drill on one end and the brush on the other. Amazon had it and now I do it all myself. $250 to clean one chimney? Chosen purely because their phone number was stuck to our furnace by the previous owners of our house, we've turned to Black Magik a couple of times now for annual chimney sweeping. Overlooking the fact that I typically prefer my chimney sweeps with a side of musical numbers, jaunty hats, and British accents, they've always done a pretty decent job at something I still have a hard time believing is still a profession. Since I don't know much about chimney sweeping, I'll just break down the experience as best I can... The goods: - Friendly customer service while booking over the phone. - Flexible appointments and advance calling notice to let you know when they're on the way. - Knowledgeable service staff who really know how to keep your chimneys safe. The bads: - We've booked by phone before only to have no one show up. - It's tough to get a call-back after leaving a voicemail. - Felt a bit pressured during the last visit to make a judgement call on a $500+ weatherguard installation. read more

This was our first experience with this company and I was very disappointed. It was nearly impossible to book an appointment. I had to leave multiple voicemails, before talking to someone. When the chimney sweeper arrived, he was very pleasant then proceeded to pressure me to have other work done. I seriously despise it when people coerce me into spending nearly twice the amount quoted with fear and emotional blackmail. I would much rather trust the people I hire to be honest and not out to make a quick buck. The entire process including the extra cleaning took him approximately 30 minutes to complete. Our previous chimney sweep took 45 minutes to an hour and only swept the fire chimney not the furnace chimney. He was clean and did a passable job. There was no attention to detail and he wore his work boots in my house. We will not be hiring this company again, mostly due to the pressure sales. I felt absolutely scammed after the fact, not fun. read more

We had Black Magik come to our home in the spring to look at our chimney which needed repair. I phoned them and found that the woman was very rude and short-tempered. I was also surprised to find out that their "free" estimates cost almost $150. We went ahead anyway since they said the estimate cost could be applied toward the work. The gentleman that came to our home Marcel was very friendly and helpful. He took a very thorough look at things. Inside, outside, upstairs, downstairs etc. He sent us a quote the following day by email and we booked the job with them about a month and a half later. They said they would come in August. Unfortunately, they pretty much stopped returning our calls and emails after that. The quote they provided was only a rough estimate. As other Yelpers have stated, there aren't too many quality chimney experts in town so there isn't much incentive for these service people to offer excellent customer service by returning calls and emails and keeping customers informed about timelines for beginning work. Fortunately, they did eventually reach out to us. Compared to other chimney companies, these guys were really reasonable, clean cut and honest. They brought the materials to us, and were up front about the scope of work. We're really impressed with the quality of their work and feel that we got good value for our $. While it took us a while to get the job lined up, we would likely recommend them to others. read more

They may be OK for sweeping chimneys but NEVER allow them to do any masonry work. They rebuilt our brick chimney and ten years later it is leaking and falling apart. I contacted two professional bricklayer and they said no qualified bricklayer did this work. Too much sand in the mix. Called BM and the owner was away so his son in law came over to see the chimney. He said he was embarrassed by the job and he will talk to the owner Maurice about fixing the problem. Two weeks later Maurice came over and hummed an hawe d then said it was falling apart due to creosote. We never had a creosote problem he was trying to shirk his responsibility. Sadly I did not learn of his reputation until after speaking with others in the profession. BEWARE!!! read more

I should have came here first... I would like to rate my experience however my appointment was cancelled after being booked for 3 weeks not even 24hrs away. I have never had worse customer service, sadly it made me realize there are not a lot of chimney sweep companies out here so they more than likely dont even care if they loose a customer. Having moved into a new home and no experience with a pellet stove I called to have it serviced. Although we were disappointed it would take 3 weeks to get an appointment to work with both our schedules we managed to get it working so we did have heat. Then the feeder stopped and through all of my trouble shooting it seemed this service appointment was needed more than ever... I get a phone call on Friday the 21st as expected, day before our Saturday appointment. 2pm. She is friendly same person I spoke with when booking advising she was calling as she assured she would, but had bad news. They could not get us in on Saturday!!! Claimed they became really busy with issues after some high winds. Now I understand that this would keep you busy but what I dont understand is the fact that she could NOT even give me a rescheduled appointment, advised she would need to call me on Monday the 25th to reschedule. I advised her I had no heat the pellets were just trickling in that we needed this appointment to only be advised that they have several people in same position. So my question to her was why, when they are so far behind, wouldnt they perhaps accomodate the affected customers with after 5 appointments or perhaps even work a Sunday, just a thought rather than leave people WITHOUT heat! To which she made a groaning sound and suggests they are doing everything they can..... clearly NOT the case. So the call ends with me advising her to call me on Monday and in the mean time I will also (after 2pm on a Friday) do my attempt to call around as well to see if I can get in before the Saturday she was suggesting, that I would let her know when she called me on Monday with my options..... well surprise... no call! read more

We had this company sweep our chimney and then they said we needed to have it re-built and some repair work done on it. We agreed and they went ahead and did the work. ... and then it leaked. We had other work being done at the same time and had workers who watched them doing the work, who knew about this field. It was a TERRIBLE job and we asked that they fix it. They flatly refused and were aggressive and rude. I would never do business with them! The roof is still leaking and we will likely have to pay another $1000 to fix it.
