I've worked with Matt twice. We talked about covering up a bad tattoo from a shop in Dallas as well as outlining the flowers on my back and adding more color. I have no reason to find another artist here in Lubbock. If you want work from an artist at Black Door Studio, email the artist and tell them what you're looking for. I'd plan ahead to make sure you get on the books because this studio is in high demand. *The music Matt played was the right vibe and he was patient when I needed a break. This review is based on the artist, not the shop itself. The shop is great! It's clean and cozy.. the bathroom could use a functional lock to prevent someone from walking in, but that's whatever. The artist, Yoshi, very talented. She's friendly and does a very good job at what you're looking for.. however, I give 3 stars because her professionalism slacks. Not once in my 5 appointments was she on time to meet me. Matter of fact, not even within 15 minutes of the scheduled time. Never apologized either. If you have a big tattoo, make sure your full day is cleared. You will have 30 minute smoke breaks every now and again. Call the shop to get a hold of her. She's not very good at answering her own phone or replying to messages/voicemails. Again, very talented. Just don't expect to be her #1 priority. read more

I'm all about first impressions, and the guy up front sucked. I came in inquiring about a tattoo artist that had similar artistic flow as my old artist back in hawaii, but they were not available. He was more busy texting and reading on his phone then giving me some desired info. Just a "no they are not here..i think they come in around at a certain time" I was going to drop THOUSANDS to get another leg sleeve, but again the guy up front just sucked. Crap crap crap. I'm a 100% disabled Vet looking for info on a tattoo in Lubbock. I messaged on fb they told me to email so I emailed and then they acted I like I bothered them. They can't even suggest an artist for a tattoo because all they do is $50 college kid tattoos. I wouldn't go here, I don't suggest anyone else go here. They talk in circles and aren't up to date with technology and today's customer. read more

I went in to get a quote from one of the tattoo artist, after about 10 minutes of waiting he had finally gotten to me. I told him about the tattoo, where I wanted it, and my price range. He had told me he's completely booked and his next day available would be two days after I came in which isn't terrible but after I had let him know that I wasn't going to be available that day and asked if I could speak to another artist, he refused, became very nonchalant, and told me they're all busy (I didn't mind waiting) but did he ask that? Nope. Made the whole end of the conversation very awkward (almost like I was in the wrong for even asking to speak to a different artist, wtf). Didn't get the name, wish I did so I could have let it be known because that kind of interaction after asking if I could speak to another artist is unacceptable! Sad, this place was highly recommended to me too. Went over to Death and Taxes down the street and let me tell you, the very complete opposite when it comes to customer service. & their art work is fantastic! Let me just save you the time and head your way over there if you're reading this now, they'll actually take care of you. Unlike black door, pathetic. read more

Went in on a walk-in basis and was helped right away. Was able to get my tattoo drawn up and tattooed in an hour. Matt was an awesome artist and was able to give me exactly what I wanted and asked for. The other artist's that were there were very friendly and everyone was very professional.
