We were greeted immediately upon entry and the restaurant was cozy, warm and inviting. Service was excellent - we asked for wine suggestions and the waiter suggested a Vacqueyras (Domaine La Fourmone le Poete 2010) and it was excellent for the price and quality! We searched for this wine in Paris, unfortunately we were unable to find this particular wine (and they do not ship to the US), but we've found other Vacqueyras varietals that come quite close. I ordered the poisson du jour and cheese plate, my husband ordered the ribeye steak and everything was delicious. I wanted dessert but was so full. We will definitely be back next time we are in Copenhagen!

(what?! is that possible in Copenhagen?!) After sorting out the confusion of the ordering process, we found that dinner is a pre-fixe menu of 3 courses meant to be shared between two people. Hold on. If you're thinking, we're supposed to SHARE dishes at a French restaurant where courses are traditionally small to begin with? (we were proven wrong, in fact, we had leftovers) The food is casual and uncomplicated. We had foie gras to start, simply salted and served with pickled plums and grilled bread. I can't get foie gras in California so it's always a priority when I travel! For our main course, a very hearty braised pork shank with carrots, leeks and root vegetables. This comes with mashed potato and French green beans. Dessert was a divine assortment of molten chocolate cake, creme brulee and ice cream. You'll be opening your belt a notch to accommadate your expanded waistline ;-) The street Værnedamsvej is lined with French cafes, small specialty stores and this restaurant seamlessly folds itself into the mix being a former butcher shop. Second course was their famous coq au vin, that came in little pots and it was fantastic. By that time we were already pretty satisfied, as portions were generous. This is a surprising little gem in the downtown area. Surprising because it's wedged between a…read morecomedy club and a handful of so so cafés and eateries that prey on unassuming tourists, but also because the light and elegant Northern European decor doesn't quite prepare you for the authentic French bistro fare you're about to experience. The owners have a serious culinary pedigree, and don't disappoint. I've been here a few times with my mother and some friends, respectively and had seriously satisfying meals every time. Love the chèvre chaud, an old favorite, and the steak with bearnaise is always grilled to absolute juicy perfection. The sleeper hit is the salad; I just really really love a well made salad which is super simple and crunchy but with that thick and tangy mustard vinaigrette that complements everything on the plate. I haven't yet tried all the desserts, since I always go for the crème brûlée. So far I've had it paired with different sorbets, super yummy and true to the fruits, but alas I'm a purist, and really don't want anything cold and tangy interfering with my favorite pudding. Luckily my companions have been helpful in not letting anything go to waste. :) If you're ever in downtown CPH and hungry, keep this place in mind. They even have French "pizza" if you just need a quick bite during your lunch break. The staff are all super friendly and seem to genuinely love having you there. Very un-Danish in that respect. ;)
