Let me start by admitting straight up, I don't really have much knowledge of french cuisine, but would have no problem what-so-ever moving to France and becoming an expert.
But from the moment we entered the front door of Bistro Cocotte for the first time recently, it is what I imaged a modern French restaurant would be.
It was open, clean, strong in decor and even with the small crowd of early diners, was buzzing.
I loved how all the tables were close so we had to acknowledge who ever was sitting next to us ... and even listen to their conversations, which was mostly noise of enjoyment as they ate.
We were the guests of friends who had brought us here to share their favourite 'local' so we were spoiled with attention from the wait staff, especially the manager, who I must say, skillfully dealt with a couple of new staff on the evening.
Being our host and we love our food, we went a little all out, three entrees, which included the Charcuterie Board, Pork and Duck Terrine and twice baked souffle .... yes, silence came over the table whilst we consumed it all.
For mains, we decided on the Confit of Pork, Eye Fillet of Beef, Boeuf Bourguignon and Lamb Noisette - all of which were beautiful, except the Lamb. Sadly, much to our host's surprise, we think we got the ends as it was more fat then lamb. BUT, we will be back (not sure why we didn't say anything to the staff).
We did do the deserts, which went down a treat, but to be honest, we had food (and wine) coma and I can not remember my thought on them, except I do remember scraping the plate for every ounce.
All in all, I think Bistro Cocotte is a wonderful restaurant and I look forward to returning. read more
