Bœuf Tatare. That's why. A small and very busy Bistro in the middle of the city, Papillon is an exemplary model of how to give good service, good food and good wine. Staff are attentive and polite, and can suggest good additions to your meal such as a palate cleaner of lemon and lime sorbet with vodka. Wines and Cheeses imported from all over France, with an excellent description of the qualities of each. Start with an Aperitif. I had a dry Vermouth Martini. Pick from the extensive wine list for something to go with your meal. Bordeaux perhaps? We had the Charcuterie entree for two which included country style Terrine, saucisson, and pork liver pate. It came with fresh crispy baguette. ( Of course ) Confit of duck legs.. heck yes. Beef Tatare is the house specialty. I hear it was excellent also. We ordered Duck fat potatoes and a side of buttered green veg. Supreme deluxe-o. They have snails in Burgundy, but I couldn't bring myself to that adventure playground. After that scene from a Harry potter movie where slugs come out of someone's mouth. No. Dessert. They remembered that it was my man's birthday ( I told them when I booked) and even lit a candle on his meringue. I was stoked that they remembered. it's the little things that make an experience great. And that creme Brulee. ... Lord Jesus, take the wheel! Good for a special occasion like a Birthday. Intimate environment, but can be very very noisy due the acoustics of the building. Excellent service, excellent food. Bring your Platinum.

My favourite experiences in Paris involved having comfort food at the many bistros around the city which included onion soup, foie gras, beef fillets in red wine, coq au vin, and luscious classic desserts. You will find most of these favourites at Bistro Papillon and the place even looks like a typical French bistro. Staff are friendly and loved having a bit of a chat with us. I ordered the coq au vin and creme brulee for dessert and they were both delicious. There is a good French wine list with their recommendation on a fruity red being very good. So if you want to be transported to Paris one evening, check this place out. Bon appetit!

We ventured here last night for our first taste of French dining in Australia and found it enjoyably adequate. It's quite tiny and intimate(which is nice), quiet music, dimly lit and good ambience. There's a strict 2hr eating time, I believe they have dinner sessions at 6pm & 8pm. Cause when we neared 8pm we were reminded to leave because the table was booked for 8pm. We booked for 6pm, so yes reservations are needed! We started with baguettes & oil, goats cheese/pear/walnuts/croutons salad and flammkucken (which tasted more like crust pizza than traditional flammkuchen) for entrees. The flammkucken was actually part of a special menu which you could order the token snails dish. If you wanted. Which we didn't. And never will. The salad was the better of the three, it was for once not drowned in any sort of creamy dressing. And the cheese was delectable. For mains my partner ordered the special of night, some kind of tender chicken strips with mushrooms and spaetzle, German inspired on account that the chef was from Strasbourg. I had pan fried beef with bearnise sauce. It was medium rare but slightly too rare for me but my partner finished it so it was still edible. Some mains had included choice of sides, which I choose the mixed buttered vegetables because sometimes you get that veggies craving, yano? They tasted awesome. The dessert was the main part that stood out for me, which is rare. We ordered French style bread and butter pudding with maple walnut icecream. They did have a good selection of European wines menu which we didn't sample. They were in a rush to take away our drinks (whether or not finished) but customer service was still polite, decent and attentive. Honestly I found the interior whilst appropriate, they were slight weird touches like a big display of a book called "Butterflies of Australia" and the light lampshades on the wall were cravings of a woman making love to a snail (refer pics). All in all it was a good introduction to Sydney French dining, but I doubt we'd return here anytime soon. Oh yeah and this place is not cheap but then we knew that before we arrived. To clarify I would give this restaurant a solid 3.5 star rating.

Escargot is on the menu and on their, er, mind?

Delightful friendly bistro with fabulous fresh food. Regret I could not grab image quick enough to take a picture of guy with the baguettes and leeks walking in but this is not a tourist place where you have your photo capturing device handy.

A couple of my friends recently returned from Sydney, and they said if there was only one place…read morethey suggest I go to eat - it was Restaurant Hubert. Specifically the happy hour. So I did! They don't take reservations for their 5-6pm happy hour. You can only line up at 5pm when they open. We got there right before 5pm, and there were probably 10 to 12 people in line. Once the doors opened we were led downstairs to the bar area. It's a very dark, and feels like you've been transported to another time and place. We decided to try one of each of the food items on the happy hour: - Duck Parfait - Good. Classic French item and they do it well. - Brandade d'anguilles fumée - OK. I know it's eel, but wasn't very distinct from any other fish. My least favourite dish. - Saucisson Sec - Good. Simple. - Fleur de Courgette - Very good. Delicate and delicious. I should've ordered two of these. - Normandy Burger - Very good. The one item my friends raved about, and it was clear why. A burger with the best ingredients is hard to matched. I got the extra side of fries which is equally good. Best dish of the meal. Service was relatively good, except at one point they asked if I wanted mayo for my fries (very French) and I said yes, but it never came. Other than that, quite good. This was easily my favourite meal of my trip, holding up to high expectations. I would return on my next trip to Sydney.

I have dreams of Restaurant Hubert's Chicken Fricassée…read more Note: Happy Hour is walk-in only from 5PM - 6PM. We came on a Thursday evening and there was a line inside prior to opening. I highly recommend getting here early to get a seat during Happy Hour and stay after to enjoy some live jazz after 6PM. The restaurant was easy to locate with a sign upfront. The entrance is just a door in the wall with spiraling stairs leading you to an underground jazz bar and restaurant. It's upscale and romantic, but several other people were dressed casually. We sat on a shared table with three other strangers until we ordered off the full menu and our Chicken Fricassée arrived. The service is top notch and everyone was attentive, polite, and kind. We started off with the happy hour menu and ordered the Duck Parfait. I didn't know what to expect. The croutons were crispy and delicate and the duck liver was easy to spread and airy. The Normandy Burger was juicy and the bread was fluffy. But the star of the night Chicken Fricassée - wow! Incredibly tender, juicy, and garlicy. The sauce had a mashed potato buttery, smooth texture. Absolute must get.

Stumbled on their website by accident and was hooked by their special 1st anniversary degustation…read morenight of their six best selling dishes. Menu looked fantastic and I can't stop thinking about it, so I made a reservation. Since my favourite French restaurant closed last year, I've been on the lookout for a new favourite, this could be it. A glass of sparkling on arrival and a friendly smile, enough to make a great first impression before our amuse bouche arrived, Escargot with Garlic & Parsley Butter. Definitely a great start! We didn't have to wait long before the first course arrived, Sydney Rock Oysters with Sauce Mignonette. Vinegar with mince eschallots made great accompaniment to the freshly shucked oysters. Black Truffle & Mushroom Veloute with Crumbed Quail Egg is creamy and earthy with perfectly cooked crumbed quail egg added necessary texture to the dish. Pan Fried Pancetta Rolled Scallop with Foie Gras, Fennel Remoulade, Lemon & Lime Vinaigrette was excellent. This was my favourite dish of the night. It was sublime. Everything on the plate complemented each other and the foie gras added complexity to the dish. Kimchi, Tofu, Ham Hock Terrine with Apple, Ssamjang Chutney, Sesame Leaf & Nashi Pear Walnut Salad was fresh and a great follow up after a heavy meal, a palate cleanser before our next heavy meal. But the highlight and my husband's favourite dish of the night was Grilled Eye Fillet of Beef with Basil Pistou & Jus. Perfectly seared sous vide beef so tender it felt like butter when you cut through it. It left an impression on my husband so big he seriously contemplating on buying a sous vide machine to try and recreate it. Just when we thought they can't go any better than this, desserts came. I had the Passionfruit and Plum Creme Brulée with its perfectly cracked caramelised sugar topping added extra crunch. I can't really taste the plum though, but found generous amount of Passionfruit inside the Brulée. My husband chose the Apple Tarte Tatin, Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream & Salted Crumbed and I can tell you he kept telling how happy he was that he chose it for his dessert. The proof is in the pudding, or in this case the Tarte Tatin as he scraped clean his plate within minutes of consuming it. Great timing on the delivery for each course. The matching wines I had with my meals were greatly matched. All that combined with intimate ambience and friendly staff definitely completed a pleasant dining experience.

Everyone else had no complaints with there dishes WE didn't try any desserts The Set menu is $60 for 3 courses, the zomato menu is outdated. But from this you will only save $4 or $5, In general I found the prices a little expensive Service was attentive and friendly though food took a little longer to come out than expected Despite the price it's a place I would come back to try something else. Worth trying!
